Chapter 615: I can't Tell you Anything
When Fan Meilin heard that Qi Yongrui wanted to take the kids to the strawberry farm, he didn't say anything and agreed. In fact, he was also quite excited to go to the farm with Luo Huian and the rest of the family. They had arrived at the farmhouse three days ago, but because of Luo Huian's sudden visit to Doctor Tan, they didn't get a chance to visit anywhere and were just cooped up in the farmhouse.
Finally, he could have some fun!
Liao Liqin also didn't have much problem with the visit to the strawberry farm. Even though he was a bit reluctant to spend a day in public, Qi Yongrui told him that it was better for the kids to converse and be in public. If they placed them in a sanctuary, then they would have a hard time getting close to other children or people.
Though Qi Yongrui never said or took his name, Liao Liqin was quite suspicious that the mer was pointing out his flaws while talking to him. It was just that he had no proof to prove it!
Luo Huian had no idea what was going on with her three husbands. At that moment, she was talking with Luo Qingling. "There will be a little bit of trouble in the next few days. Do you think that the guild will be able to handle it?"
"You are underestimating the guild and the PR department," Luo Qingling spoke with a hint of exasperation and helplessness in her tone. "Even if that mer tries to make a move, at most we will be cursed by the netizens. But you are not doing anything wrong, which means that we are safe from legal troubles. Just send me the reports and the surgery bills. This way we can build momentum for you and Qi Yongrui."
"We can release these pieces of evidence in case the mer really brings up the matter of his kids being kidnapped by you. Maybe that way, Ye Jinglan might end up in legal trouble?"
Luo Qingling knew that her sister was helping out Nian Zhi and her brother. Though she was not against it, she hoped that Luo Huian and Qi Yongrui would stop being nice to others without worrying about their safety first. Ye Jinglan's matter was not troublesome, but what if Luo Huian and Qi Yongrui ended up getting entangled with someone whose family member was a criminal?
Wouldn't they be in danger then?
She pursed her lips and in the end she couldn't help but say to Luo Huian, "Huian, I am not saying that you should stop being kind to people, but at least try to think of yourself first. You never know what kind of person you are helping. It will be troublesome if you get involved with someone you shouldn't. Try to stop playing the hero for a while, alright?"
Luo Huian: "..."
Oh, how she wished she could tell Luo Qingling that she didn't want to play hero at all! If possible, she wished to turn a blind eye to the sufferings that Nian Zhi and her brother were going through and give them only the required amount of help. The one who was playing the hero was Qi Yongrui and co.
Though Luo Huian felt wronged, she still hummed in response. What could she do? Qi Yongrui, Fan Meilin and Liao Liqin were her husbands, while Ye Shun was her father. Whom could she even blame?
Was she supposed to blame her husband? She couldn't.
Was she supposed to blame her father? She couldn't.
So she was only left with one option, and that was to accept whatever blame was coming their way. As a woman, she couldn't allow mers to take the blame; this was something that she couldn't accept.
"You have gone soft," remarked Xiao Hei. These words sounded weird and unfamiliar to even him. Luo Huian was the kind of woman who would fight to the death if she was not in the wrong. But she would never accept blame for anyone else.
There was one instance where a disciple of the immortal realm stole food from the farm, and the blame somehow landed with Luo Huian. But instead of silently accepting the blame, even though the disciple did it out of sheer deliberation, Luo Huian fought for evidence till the end and finally freed herself of the blame.
That woman who would rather climb down the hill and go to quibble with the owner of the pig farm was now letting such a thing go? Even though Xiao He had seen a lot, he couldn't help but feel like he was watching something he shouldn't.
Luo Huian raised her head and looked at the black snake familiar. She said to him, "I haven't gone soft. In the end, they are my people; if I blame them, then I will have to admit that I am not good enough to manage them. How can I accept that? You know how the people of this world are. They see the actions of the mers as a reflection of their wife's management. If I say that I cannot even make them drive away those two kids, what kind of respect would my sister have for me? She would certainly look down on me."
Xiao Hei: (¬⤙¬ )
Why do I feel like you are lying?
Though Xiao Hei wanted to say those words, he still stayed quiet and exchanged a look with Xiao Bai, who shot him a fierce glare, clearly asking him to stay quiet and not make trouble. Since Luo Huian wanted to make use of this excuse, she let her; at least she was opening her heart to others and letting them into her life.
Even if she was slow to admit that, it was still better than the time when she even refused to speak to anyone.
Xiao Bai never wanted to see Luo Huian like that ever again. The woman who always wore pure white as if she were mourning. Never talking and simply heading out to kill demonic cultivators, it was heartbreaking to watch her like that. Especially when she left the cave after she was sent back once her punishment was over.
Xiao Bai would never forget the sight of Luo Huian dressing in a pure white robe and heading out with her wounds still bleeding. It was as if she were trying to make a statement.
Jiao Bo was so heartbroken that he fainted, and when he woke up, he had a huge fight with Elder Luo. But the woman never agreed with him, which led to Jiao Bo being so angry that he dropped all his responsibilities as the elder of the immortal realm and closed himself in seclusion. He told everyone that if Luo Huian was a sinner, then he, as his father, needed to suffer as well.
Thus, he locked himself in one of the toughest seclusions, and when he stepped out, he was half ghost and half human. The sight terrified Luo Tingfeng to the point that he nearly knelt in front of Jiao Bo and begged him to stop tormenting himself.
However, Jiao Bo simply mocked the man for being useless, as he couldn't even protect their daughter. It was only when Luo Huian saw that her father was close to disappearing that she started behaving normally, but the childish and naive girl was gone forever. This was something that Xiao Bai knew.
Now that she was getting a bit better, how could Xiao Bai intervene?
Xiao Hei saw that Xiao Bai had no problem with how Luo Huian was acting, and he turned even more worried. What was he supposed to do now? With him being isolated like this, how was he going to bring Luo Huian back to the immortal realm? Lord Luo, I am sorry, but it seems like I have lost the battle.
On the other side, Luo Tingfeng had no idea that his familiar was going through an existential crisis. At the moment, he was busy with his own thing. He glanced down at the demonic cultivator who was lying under his foot and questioned, "Last chance. Who was Gu Sirou?"
The demonic cultivator's eyes widened when he heard the question of the immortal in front of him. His red eyes flickered uneasily as he turned to look left and right before he whispered, "Even if you ask me this question, there is nothing I can say to you, My Lord."
"Are you sure?" Luo Tingfeng asked as he pressed the bottom of his shoe against the front of the man.
"My lord... My lord..." the demonic cultivator persisted under the pressure that was building in his chest and wheezed, "When I say that I cannot tell you anything, I never meant that I am going to stay quiet. The truth is that we cannot say anything — ages ago when Gu Sirou made us join her plan, she—AHHHHH!!!"
