Yu Tong had been staying with Yu Dong ever since the incident took place on the day the village was flooded. Strictly speaking, she had never even visited the Old Yu family house, thus it was quite a surprise for Yu Dong to hear that Yu Tong had been engaged.

Either Yu Tong hid it from her or Second Madam Yu was the one who decided everything without telling Yu Tong. As Yu Dong was very much aware of what kind of person Yu Tong was and how much she loved Lin Hanjing, there was no way she would agree to get engaged to someone else.

So most likely, it was Second Madam Yu who decided everything on her own.

"This is going to be very problematic," Yu Dong remarked with a frown. If the engagement was already publicized to the point that the entire village was aware of it then it could only mean one thing —— Yu Tong would not be able to back out of the engagement.

In fact, Yu Dong was not even surprised that Second Madam Yu had pushed Yu Tong in such a way. Given how much she wanted to make sure that Lin Hanjing would not be able to marry Yu Tong, it did not stun Yu Dong, that she arranged for a match behind Yu Tong's back.

More importantly, this was the era where parents and filial piety mattered the most. Even if Yu Tong separated from the Old Yu family, until and unless Second Madam Yu died, there was no way Yu Tong would be able to go against her completely.

"You two go and take a look at Murong Si," Yu Dong rubbed her head as she ordered Gu Ke Jin and Mammy Lin, now that the matter was out of their hands, she could only hope that Murong Si was a decent mer and didn't have a scheming head on his shoulders.

If not then Yu Tong's life would be ruined for good.

"I understand," Gu Ke Jin bowed her head as she walked out of the Yu house, she didn't waste a single minute and went to fulfil the order that was given by Yu Dong. When Yu Dong saw Gu Ke Jin acting so stiffly, she shook her head.

She had told Gu Ke Jin to not feel guilty as Gu Mu was Gu Mu and she was Gu Ke Jin. The two of them have different fathers and personalities, thus even if Gu Mu and her had a deep grudge there were no problems between the two of them.

And what was more, with the death of Gu Mu even that grudge seemed to have been washed away.

"Mammy Lin, take care of Ke Jin. Don't let her work too much," Yu Dong said to Mammy Lin who nodded and bowed her head. She said, "I understand, Madam Yu. I will keep an eye on Miss Gu."

After she finished speaking Mammy Lin chased after Gu Ke Jin.

Once the two of them were gone, Shen Li who was walking in the backyard while watching Zi Zan and the rest use the pulp of the fruits to make ice candies, walked out from behind the house.

"It seems like something troublesome happened again," he remarked while nursing his belly which was far too big for even his body. Now he waddled like a penguin instead of walking like a human.

Yu Dong caught his wrist as she pulled the chair next to her and helped Shen Li in sitting down. She poured a cup of hot tea and then placed it in front of Shen Li before saying, "What can we do, it's something that is not within our control."

If it was her she would have left the Old Yu family in a manner that Second Madam Yu would think twice before trying to corner her but Yu Tong was different. She was someone who cared about filial piety and family ties, if not then she would have done more than just leave the Yu family.

"Can we not help her," Shen Li picked up the teacup and blew over it before saying, "I do not like the idea of letting Ah Tong marry someone she doesn't like."

Yu Tong was a simple woman. If this mer turned out to be a scheming one he was worried that Yu Tong would suffer.

"That will depend on Ah Tong," Yu Dong sighed with a light shake of her head. She disliked the idea of Yu Tong's forced marriage as well but with the news publicized even she couldn't stop the marriage between her and Fang Chi.

Shen Li also knew that there was no point in stopping this marriage, as the reputation of a mer mattered the most. If they were to break the marriage now, then who knows what might happen to that mer with whom Yu Tong was now engaged.

Yu Dong looked at the furrow on Shen Li's forehead and stretched her hand to smooth the frown on his head. She then said to him, "There is no need for you to worry about this, if this marriage has to go through then I will make sure that it is the last thing that Second Madam Yu will be able to make Ah Tong do." "What are you planning?" Shen Li questioned with a furrow. He raised his hand and poked Yu Dong on the forehead and said, "Don't go too far. Your aunt already hates us to the point that she glares at our house every time she walks past this path."

Yu Dong chuckled as she hugged Shen Li and planted a wet kiss on his cheek. "Well, what can I do? Your wife is so good that people can't help but be jealous of me."

"Stop kissing me, I know what's going on in your head," Shen Li pushed her away from him as he snorted, "The last time you dragged Ah Liu into your room, he came out with trembling legs even now he is having a hard time picking up heavy things."

"Isn't it good that I love you all equally?"

"I think you love us too much."

"Aww, rude."
