Because of the incident that occurred five minutes ago, Shen He found himself standing outside the room, reflecting on the situation.
Though it wasn't his fault, it still felt like an advantageous spectacle to others.
And if he stayed in the room much longer, things might escalate further.
He hoped no one would notice him, as that thought lingered in his mind.
Then, he saw the Two Ceremonies approaching…
"Why do I keep running into Shijie lately?" Shen He muttered to himself.
"Ahem." Shen He coughed awkwardly, "Something went wrong."
"I heard it." The Two Ceremonies tilted her head, tapping her ear.
Her neutral beauty combined with the movement of her head was strikingly cute.
But Shen He could only offer a wry smile.
Inside the room, sounds like "unbelievable," "perverted," "erotic," "kill him," and other murmurs were slipping through.
"The new follower?" The Two Ceremonies asked, her voice cool and even.
She didn't use the word "partner"—after all, only Violet had a good relationship with her out of all the followers so far.
"That's right." Shen He nodded, a look of helplessness crossing his face. "Although I wouldn't say her personality is bad, this situation is… complicated."
After all, Nakiri Erina was the super-elite eldest daughter of a renowned culinary family.
Even in this time period, she could be described as Tsundere—without the 'Jiao' (cutesy).
"Do you need help?" The Two Ceremonies asked unexpectedly.
"How?" Shen He blinked, surprised.
But instead of answering, the Two Ceremonies opened the door and stepped inside. Nakiri Erina, wrapped in a quilt, was there, teeth gritted in frustration. Joan of Arc's attempts at soothing her seemed to have no effect. In fact, a faint pastel hue of embarrassment flushed across Erina's face, hiding her panic. The situation had completely exceeded her comprehension.
"Have you had enough?" The Two Ceremonies' voice was sharp and cold.
Erina felt a sudden chill, as if she'd fallen into an ice cave.
The speaker was a beautiful woman with an icy presence—no, she actually had a sword in her hand!
"Shi, she's just an ordinary person."
Jeanne shifted slightly, standing in front of Erina to shield her, reducing some of the cold aura emanating from the Two Ceremonies.
"Ordinary people? I believe you meant to say 'the eldest lady,' right?" The Two Ceremonies' tone was flat, but her eyes glowed an icy blue.
"Where does she think this is?"
At that moment, Nakiri Erina felt as though a giant "death" was written before her eyes. The overwhelming killing intent was like a wave crashing over her, making her tremble in terror. A divine halo flickered around Joan, her palms clenched tightly. Erina instinctively shrank behind Joan, her eyes red with fear.
Though she was arrogant, in the face of a force she couldn't even comprehend, such fear was understandable.
"Shi." Shen He quickly stepped forward, placing a hand on the Two Ceremonies' shoulder.
The palpable killing intent dissipated slowly, and the icy blue in her eyes faded back to dark brown.
"Hmph." The Two Ceremonies made a dissatisfied noise, turned on her heel, and walked away without another word. "I refuse to acknowledge someone like that as a companion."
"Master." Jeanne looked up at Shen He, concern in her eyes.
Though the Two Ceremonies often kept her distance, she was usually easy to approach. What had happened today?
"It's fine." Shen He smiled, trying to ease the tension.
In truth, he was also a bit shaken. After all, when the Two Ceremonies had turned to leave, she'd blinked twice at him. The subtlety of controlling such intense killing intent... It almost felt like weaving an intricate web.
Despite everything, the effect was clear. Erina was still hiding behind Joan, visibly shaken. To deal with someone like her, Shen He knew that only one of two approaches could work: either gradually soften her, or apply some strong medicine.
"Ahem." Shen He stepped closer and lowered his voice. "I apologize for what happened just now. It was an accident. But now you should have some understanding of our situation. We're a team that spans many worlds, and the promises made to you earlier are all true. You're welcome to join us."
Erina's mind, still frazzled by fear, began to clear as she processed his words. She now understood—this was a non-human organization from another world, and she had unwittingly formed a contract with the person before her, thus being dragged into this new world.
Erina peeked out cautiously, her gaze meeting Shen He's.
A warm smile from him was enough to ease some of the anxiety in her chest.
"Let me introduce myself." Shen He's grin widened. "I'm Shen He, though you can also call me 'Master.' This is Jeanne, my wife."
"Wife…" Erina's voice caught, and she looked at Joan, stunned by her beauty.
Just moments ago, Joan had held her hand so warmly, and now, her eyes radiated sincere warmth, soothing Erina's panic. The fear slowly melted away.
Erina felt a bit embarrassed. This woman had a wife like this—and yet, she'd thought the worst of the situation.
The prideful eldest daughter of the Nakiri family now felt a slight pang of guilt. She was about to apologize when, upon lifting her head, she saw Shen He's gaze drop... downward.
She followed his eyes, only to realize that at some point, the quilt wrapped around her had slipped off.
"—Pervert!"
---
In the end, Erina Nakiri, now dressed in Joan's clothes, stood in front of Shen He, still blushing with outrage.
She had been seen by a man twice in a single day!
Even Joan shot Shen He a glare, a hint of anger in her eyes.
Shen He, however, didn't seem to notice the awkwardness. He hadn't even looked at the situation—his focus remained elsewhere.
Truth be told, Erina's figure was truly remarkable. It matched Joan's in proportions, though youth offered room for growth.
"Give it to me!" Erina demanded, arms akimbo, still glaring, her face flushed with embarrassment.
"What?" Shen He was momentarily confused.
"The ingredients you mentioned earlier!" Erina's chin raised slightly, defiant. "You said you'd offer ingredients from another world in exchange for the privilege of enjoying my cooking. If the ingredients are adequate, then reluctantly, I'll reward you with my culinary skills. But only once a week! This is a privilege that countless people could only dream of!"
"…What am I supposed to do when the chef at home demands a high salary but refuses to work?" Shen He thought, inwardly groaning.
Still, he smiled knowingly.
This was the expected response. In the world of Shokugeki no Soma, chefs were regarded far more highly than powerful individuals—especially a talented one.
"Don't worry," Shen He said, his smile wide. "I'll show you something first. Come with me."
Erina shot a glance at Joan, who was still smiling warmly, and immediately felt her tension ease. She grit her teeth and followed.
After all, this was someone else's place, and she wasn't foolish—she felt these people weren't bad, so she dared show the pride of a top-tier chef.
