Chapter 344: Appearance of the Yoruba Demon I

{… Yes, I am going to attend} Daphne said matter of factly, her words throwing Jason into confusion.

“… How does that work…?” Jason asked in confusion.

If a person was going to attend a wedding halfway across the world, then they had to be halfway across the world a few hours to the said day, but Daphne hadn’t mentioned anything about traveling.

“… You did not…” Jason spoke as his eyes widened in realization.

{Yes, I did} Daphne replied and Jason could hear her snickering.

“… ”

“… I have no words…” Jason managed to say after a long pause to let his brain acclimate to what he was hearing.

“… What dastardly plan do you have that made you travel halfway across the world without telling me about it,” Jason sighed, his head already aching as he knew that his aunt was up to no good by doing what she did.

{Nothing, I’m innocent!} Daphne immediately cried out in objection.

“Hmmm mmm,” Jason scoffed, not believing her.

{I’m just attending my niece’s wedding with my nephew} Daphne said in a shady voice.

“When did you have another nephew apart from me?” Jason asked in confusion as he didn’t know of any non-female cousins.

{… I don’t…} Daphne replied and Jason could have sworn he saw a wicked smile pop up on her face in his mind, but he didn’t care about that thought as her words had finally made everything clear and his response to that was simple,

“… Nope, not doing it,” he rejected it immediately.

{Your clothes are already prepared and I’ll be waiting for you tomorrow at Shoregate Hotel} Daphne continued like she hadn’t heard him say no and Jason could already feel a headache coming on.

Despite becoming more social and connecting with his family more in this life than in the previous one, things between him and any other family member apart from Daphne was awkward at best and estranged at worst.

The cousin that was getting married was the daughter of his father’s sister who was also the eldest child in the Bolu family. Jason had met her family a few times in the past, but he had never really gelled with them all that much.

She was a lot older than he was and it always felt kind of strange to talk to her, but the situation wasn’t any better with his cousins.

His father’s eldest sister had three daughters and all but one of them was of a similar age to Jason and even the so-called similar age was about 3 years older than he was.

This led to them treating him like a baby whenever he came around and that was a lot for Jason at the time so he had always made sure to avoid them at the time.

Now his aunt was trying to drag him to one of them’s wedding ceremonies.

“… You know what… On second thought, it’s not all that bad,” Jason muttered after thinking things through a bit more.

{Huh?} Surprisingly, Jason’s affirmative response was shocking to Daphne.

Daphne had originally planned to go to the wedding ceremony alone because apart from knowing how awkward Jason’s relationship with his cousins were, she also knew that he usually couldn’t leave Porto which was almost as far away from Nigeria as America was.

Jason had a career to chase and it was not something he could just casually put aside, especially when he was this young, so she had planned to go on her own, but then as if by magic, Jason ended up being called to the Nigerian National squad and ended up in Nigeria around the same time as the wedding.

Daphne immediately changed her plans and made secret plans and was half prepared to drag him to the wedding ceremony as she knew he would not want to go, but as an elder of the family, she was not going to stand around while the perfect chance to bring the family together appeared.

However, Jason giving in easily more than surprised her because she knew how adamant he could be about things like this.

“I said I’d go. What time tomorrow is the wedding?” Jason continued, not noticing his aunt’s flabbergasted tone.

{Uh, it’s 12… pm} Daphne managed to utter.

“Alright. You have my clothes ready, you said?” Jason asked again.

{Yes} Daphne replied.

“The wedding is in Lagos, right?” Jason continued with his questions while he had already started planning for the day.

{Yes} Daphne answered again, still surprised at Jason’s response to the whole situation, and could only keep answering “yes” like a broken record.

“Hmmm… I’ll come pick you up at 9… 10…ish,” Jason said thoughtfully before saying his goodbyes and hanging up the phone.

” Goodnight,” He said just before pressing the red button leaving a flabbergasted Daphne to stare at her phone with her mouth agape.

Jason didn’t know what was going on at the other end and had instead begun swiping at his phone, opening up his contact list and searching for a name.

He hadn’t originally intended to attend the wedding, but knowing that with all the plans his aunt had made, he wouldn’t be able to escape going with her, he decided to give up on arguing quickly.

What was a little awkwardness anyway?

He had been in worse situations so he should be able to cope with any situations that came up at the wedding.

With that said, if he was going to attend a wedding as a family member of the bride, then it was only fair he looked and acted the part, after all, whatever was worth doing was worth doing well.

Jason wasn’t one to half-ass things, and this wouldn’t be any different, hence despite how sleepy he was he dialed a number to begin his preparations.

*Ring* *Ring*

The phone began ringing in his ears after he dialed the number and he held the phone to his ear waiting for the person he had called to pick up the phone while fighting off the waves of sleep that tried to pull him under.

*Beep*

{Hello} a voice that Jason easily recognized swept through his ear from the phone speaker, but Jason wasn’t about to reminisce and began speaking.

“I need you to prepare some things for me in the next few hours…” Jason got right down to business.

*Ring* *Ring* *Ring*

The loud burst of the alarm clock woke Jason up from his slumber and had him groping for his phone while keeping his eyes closed as he didn’t want to wake up yet.

He soon found his phone and turned off the alarm with practised ease despite his eyes remaining closed, but after staying on the bed with his eyes closed for a few minutes, Jason’s eyes shot open and he slowly forced himself off the bed as he remembered that he had somewhere to be.

He glanced at his phone to check the time and found out that the time was still just a few minutes after 7 am, but that didn’t get him to relax and get back in bed because he knew better than to trust the traffic levels of the city named Lagos.

Jason dragged himself into the bathroom to quickly have his bath.

He was soon out of the bathroom and had begun dressing up when his phone began ringing.

“Hello,” Jason said as he picked up the call.

He didn’t recognize the string of numbers that had shown up on his screen in place of a caller ID.

{Is this Mr. Bolu Jason?} a voice asked through the phone.

“Speaking,” Jason replied, putting the phone on speaker and resuming what he was doing previously.

{I have a package that I should hand over to you} the voice continued after Jason had confirmed his identity.

“Oh, wait in the lobby, I’ll be down in a minute,” Jason replied, immediately understanding what the caller had contacted him for.

{Okay sir} the caller replied and hung up the call.

Jason continued wearing his clothes after the call hung up.

He wore something casual and picked a few things that he threw into a small bag that he slung over his shoulder before heading out of his room once he was done.

Jason quickly made his way down to the hotel lobby and he pulled out his phone to start dialing the number that called him previously as he stepped into the lobby.

As soon as the call went through, Jason heard a phone ring and his eyes followed the sound to find a middle aged man seated in one of the plush chairs in the lobby.

“You’re the one who called me?” Jason said after walking up to the man and stretching out a hand for a handshake.

“Yes… You’re Mr. Bolu?” the man asked Jason as he stood up to receive the handshake.

“Yes, that’s me,” Jason nodded in agreement as he clasped the man’s hand.

“Alright. Here,” the man first handed an envelope over to Jason.
