Chapter 182: Supreme Pool?
By the time Sun Wukong and his four companions reached the South City Gate, the area outside the gate was already packed with people. It was no surprise to the five of them; based on their earlier pace, it was impressive that they hadn't arrived late. Once the five of them had found a spot within the crowd, the space overhead suddenly fluctuated, and a domineering gate appeared out of nowhere.
As soon as the gate materialized, it slowly began to open by itself.
Then, an attractive man with a smile on his face appeared, seated on a cluster of star clouds, visible to everyone below! Some people with sharp eyes recognized that this man was none other than Yue Huangquan, the revered ruler of the Netherworld World!
As soon as Yue Huangquan appeared, the crowd erupted into fervent excitement! For those who had been living in the Netherworld World for hundreds, thousands, or even tens of thousands of years, the Tyrant Moon Netherworld was their true god! Regardless of how cruel the Netherworld World could be, it was undeniable that its existence gave them hope for resurrection.
Even those for whom resurrection was hopeless had already adapted to life in the Netherworld World. Here, there were no worries about lifespans or starvation, and one could achieve eternal life as long as they were careful not to be devoured by beings more powerful than themselves.
Thus, Yue Huangquan had always been revered and respected by the vast majority of the Netherworld World's inhabitants. After the cheering died down a bit, Yue Huangquan still had a smile on his face as he waved his hand and announced loudly, "You are all the pride of my Netherworld World. I hope that one day you will fight for the Netherworld World.
Now, the Supreme Pool is officially opened for one year. I wish all of you the best of luck!"
After finishing his speech, he waved his large sleeve, and the Bronze Gate that hung in mid-air suddenly landed on the ground. Looking at the massive Bronze Gate, Sun Wukong and his companions were somewhat taken aback. Were they supposed to walk through this Bronze Gate?
Seeing both Sun Wukong and Xi Zhao looking perplexed, Caomei stood atop the puppet White Tiger, adopting the pose of a know-it-all, pointed at the Bronze Gate, and said, "Charge, Xiao Bai! The Supreme Pool is finally open, we're in for a treat now!" The moment her words fell, the puppet White Tiger turned into a streak of white light and dashed toward the Bronze Gate.
However, since Caomei had been standing on the White Tiger's back, the sudden acceleration caused her to tumble off!
Rubbing her forehead and teary-eyed, Caomei pointed at the puppet White Tiger, now a streak of white light, and finally burst into tears! Watching Caomei's antics, Sun Wukong and his companions wanted to laugh but dared not, stifling their amusement. At that moment, Xi Zhao suddenly kicked Flame God's behind.
Flame God, who had been holding back a laugh, couldn't contain himself when kicked by Xi Zhao, and a snort of laughter escaped as he let go of his mouth.
The previously wailing Caomei stopped crying the moment she heard someone laugh and glared angrily at Flame God!
When the Bronze Gate landed, all 2,800 people simultaneously moved forward. Despite the large number, there was no crowding because even if you pushed to the front, after entering the Bronze Gate you would be automatically transported to your assigned spot.
Each person had an identification plaque that not only bore their identity but also the rank they achieved during the trials on the Desolate Island. Upon entering the Supreme Pool, individuals would be transported to the positions corresponding to their trial ranks inscribed on their plaques.
Because Flame God had let out a laugh after being kicked, under the combined threats of Sun Wukong, Xi Zhao, and Caomei, the unfortunate Flame God resigned to acting as a mount, carrying Caomei alongside the others through the immense Bronze Gate.
As Sun Wukong, his companions, and the fox stepped through the Bronze Door, they were enveloped in a field of orange light which vanished with them at an incredible speed. As soon as their feet touched the ground again, the orange glow that had wrapped around them suddenly shattered.
What appeared before everyone's eyes was not the expected pool or lake bottom, but rather an ancient and elegant room. The room's furnishings were very simple, containing only eight meditation mats and no beds, tables, or chairs.
While Sun Wukong and his companions surveyed their surroundings, Caomei suddenly said, "This is the Third Layer, the area where we can move about for the next year. The trials will start in just half a Chinese Hour, so familiarize yourselves quickly, and don't mind me!"
Having said that, Caomei promptly opened a window in the room and leaped out. The others, puzzled by Caomei's peculiar behavior, hadn't had time to react when, suddenly, the little fox also sprang out of the window!
Staring at the open window, they were somewhat confused. Wasn't it said that they couldn't leave this room? What was going on with those two? Perplexed, the three approached the open window and peered out.
But what lay outside seemed to be a night sky, dark with countless twinkling stars. It felt as though the room was floating in an endless void. Where had Caomei and the little fox, who had just jumped out, gone?
This series of events had left the three of them somewhat baffled. Although Xi Zhao was well-informed and had seen much, the Netherworld World had always been a mystery, and even Xi Zhao did not know much about it.
However, judging by Caomei's demeanor, it seemed unlikely that anything bad would happen. She appeared very familiar with this place, and although the little fox was playful, she was not one to recklessly court disaster. Thus, the three of them decided not to worry too much.
They didn't close the window, because they were afraid that if they did, Caomei might not be able to get back in when she returned. They walked around the room, but there was actually not much to see. The room was just that size, and extremely empty, not only devoid of any furniture but also lacking doors.
The walls around them, apart from the window through which Caomei had leaped out, were bare and as rudimentary as could be. Each person chose a cushion and sat down cross-legged on the floor, since this was the Supreme Pool—cultivating here must certainly feel different. However, after meditating for a quarter of a Chinese hour, all three opened their eyes simultaneously.
With surprised looks in their eyes, their minds were once more filled with doubt. Because they had discovered that the soul power or spiritual energy in this space was no different from the outside world, with only a slightly greater concentration of elemental forces, but even that was very limited. What was going on? Had they been deceived? Was this place really not the Supreme Pool?
Cultivating here seemed no different from doing so outside.
Just when the three were about to say something, they suddenly felt an extremely dense heaven and earth pressure along with cosmic laws sweeping over them like a blanket. More precisely, these surged from below directly towards the heavens.
Caught off guard, all three were pinned to the ground by the pressure and the power of the laws, unable to move. After this outburst of pressure and law power, a complete variety of elements, laws, and even some strange energies thoroughly permeated this small space.
It was only then that the three suddenly remembered Caomei saying that it would start in half an hour before she broke through the window. They hadn't paid attention at the time because of their concern for Caomei, but now they realized—did the Supreme Pool actually have a time limit?
In the midst of these ocean-like diverse forces and laws, the three were truly astonished. They had not expected that there was such a peculiar place in the universe, where law power gushed forth as if it were free for the taking.
Normally, one would accumulate soul power to a certain level up to Six Patterns and then undergo a purification by the laws, consequently receiving a kind of law power. But now, various intermediate, high level, and top-level laws were everywhere, allowing one to directly attract whatever power they desired with just a thought, although whether they could refine it depended on their own talent.
Some people with unique talents would even take this opportunity to replace all the cosmic laws they had comprehended during previous advancements with high-level or even top-level laws.
The laws they chose not only had a higher grade and attributes more suited to them, but also made it easier to merge the Nine Paths when it was time to ascend to Nine Patterns Supreme. However, such people were extremely rare, and only those with devilishly high potential could manage such a defiant feat.
However, many did not opt for a complete replacement, choosing only to replace the first three laws, like the Demon Emperor Di Jun and Donghuang Taiyi of Battle Demon City. Geniuses who replaced the first six laws included the Nether Ghost King and the King of Qin from Cangmeng.
As for those who completed the replacement of all nine laws, there were only three known cases—the Netherworld Guardian, the lord of Supreme City, and the master of Inner City who ranked first among the ten Inner City lords.
But once this Supreme Pool session ends, that number might just have to be updated!
Because Sun Wukong, Xi Zhao, and the Flame God, they all planned to replace all the laws they had comprehended!
A complete transformation of the Nine Paths!
