Chapter 87: Chapter 87 G2
Law would not be surprised if the person coming was Kenda, but now, he was very surprised because of Kenda's hands and the lingering killing intent that clung to him.
"Your hand...?"
Law glanced at Kenda's right arm, which was now unbandaged. The exposed palm was slightly black.
Kenda slowly raised his blackened right hand and said, "It's nothing. I used it to handle something that needed to be done. It'll be useless in a little while."
As soon as he finished speaking, he lowered his hand again, looked at Law, and said solemnly: "I need you to come with me."
Law raised his eyebrows and asked after a moment, "Where to?"
"The drug manufacturing factory located on the second underground level." Kenda said in a deep voice.
Law's eyes widened slightly in surprise. He hadn't expected Barney to have a drug manufacturing factory hidden beneath the mansion.
Ten minutes later, Law followed Kenda to the second underground level and saw at least twenty corpses along the way. Without Law asking, Kenda took the initiative to explain to Law that he had killed all these people.
Law suppressed his doubts and continued to follow Kenda.
The two men came to the room filled with equipment for drug production and Law saw five bodies lay scattered on the floor.
"This is Barney's drug factory." Kenda said as he stood amidst the equipment, looking down at the corpses on the ground.
Although it is called a factory, it does not occupy a large area. However, this single room had been producing a steady supply of drugs to be sold elsewhere.
Law took a quick glance around at the equipment around him, then looked at Kenda and asked, "Why did you bring me here?"
He also had another question on his mind, 'Why are there so many bodies?'
Kenda did not answer, but instead walked to a door at the far end of the room. He opened the iron door without saying a word, and then moved aside so that Law could have a clear view of what lay beyond.
What Law saw through the single iron door made his eyes widen gradually, and a chill rose from the bottom of his heart and quickly spread throughout his body.
"This is…?"
Law walked past Kenda and strode into the room. He looked at the hellish scene in the room from close range and remained silent for a long time.
"This is the manufacturing method of G2. Different from G1, G2 uses the human body to cultivate the virus, which is then processed into drugs. Compared to G1, G2 has fewer side effects. If it is released, it would quickly replace G1 and become one of the best-selling drugs." Kenda said in a deep voice.
In the spacious room, there are neatly arranged transparent glass chambers, and in each of them, there is a person with out-of-focus eyes.
There are nearly a hundred glass chambers in the room, containing people of all ages, including men, women, young and old. The only thing they had in common was that they were all missing limbs.
Law remained silent as he watched this inhumane scene. Since arriving in this world, Law had been exposed to its darkness, as if it were forcing him to adapt and understand its depths.
"Although everyone in these glass chambers is still alive, they are already beyond saving." Kenda entered the room, walked to the middle of the two rows of glass chambers, and said with his back to Law: "Killing them now would be an act of mercy."
Law took a deep breath, looked at Kenda's back, and said in a deep voice: "Since you kept it a secret on the airship, what is your plan for bringing me here now?"
"I was only able to confirm this today. Originally, my goal was to destroy this place and eliminate the method for making G1." Kenda slowly turned around, looked at Law, and said, "The reason I brought you here is so you'd understand: Young Lady will not become the second Barney."
This was something Law originally wanted to do, though he hadn't revealed his intentions. He only promised Kenda that he would protect Ellie. However, he hadn't expected Kenda to take such decisive action to address the matter first.
Kenda's motive for doing this was clear. He wanted to let Law know that Ellie will not become the second drug lord. This was Kenda's way of removing any lingering doubts Law might have, ensuring he could dedicate himself fully to protecting Ellie.
"You noticed?" Law asked, staring at Kenda.
Kenda nodded slowly, glanced at his completely disabled right arm, and said, "Although we haven't known each other for long, I've come to understand the kind of person you are. That's also why Young Lady admires you."
"Even if there's the slightest possibility, I don't want your perception of Barney to extend to Young Lady."
"Destroying the root of the problem is my guarantee to you."
Law remained silent. After a moment, he turned and walked out with uncomfortable expression.
Seeing this, Kenda followed him out silently and closed the door behind them.
After walking out of the room, Law suddenly turned around, then stretched out his hand to Kenda, and said calmly: "Give me your heart."
"Okay." Kenda agreed without hesitation after hearing that. He then used Zetsu to suppress all his Aura, waiting for Law to use his Nen Ability on him.
Seeing Kenda's resolute willingness to surrender his heart, Law sighed deeply. He rubbed his forehead, and said with a wry smile: "Kenda, I have some bad news for you."
Kenda's face showed a puzzled look, and he asked, "What is it?"
"Something went wrong when I was training just now. For the next month, I'll only be able to use Ten. I can't use Ren. So even if you are willing to give me your heart, I can't take it." Law had planned to tell Kenda about his predicament eventually, but he hadn't expected to bring it up in such a situation.
The sight of the corpses on their way here had pained him. After all, these fallen people could have been valuable assets in their future battles.
"Huh?" Kenda was stunned when he heard Law's words. It took him several minutes to digest the bad news.
In order to destroy this place, he did not hesitate to permanently cripple his right hand and killed more than 20 people, all because he had absolute confidence in Law's strength. As a result, after he had done all that, it felt like Law had played a cruel joke on him.
"Don't lose hope. There are still plenty of people in the mansion. Just hold out for a month, or maybe less, since I might recover sooner." Law reached out and patted Kenda on the shoulder, comforting him.
Kenda said, his tone filled with exasperation and despair: "That's easy for you to say."
Law awkwardly withdrew his hand and smiled sheepishly. He didn't want to do that, but who knew that after absorbing so many Nen from the collections, he would become like this.
Kenda could only accept the reality and sighed. He turned around and opened the door of G2's room again.
"What are you going to do?" Law asked.
"Giving them a merciful end. Isn't that the outcome you'd prefer?" Kenda walked into the room. He intended to end the lives of nearly a hundred people.
Hearing this, Law watched Kenda walk into the room in silence.
The image of the arrogant and haughty butler he had first met was gradually being replaced by something different.
.....
Spice City, on the top floor of a nine-star hotel.
In a luxurious suite, a handsome young man with a crew cut was sitting on the sofa. His legs were stretched out, resting on a coffee table, while he casually swirled a wine glass in his hand, with ruby-red liquid spinning in the glass.
Soothing and pleasant melody echoed in the room, and the young man closed his eyes and listened attentively.
Suddenly, the melody came to an abrupt halt.
The young man's narrowed eyes snapped open, and a look of annoyance appeared on his face.
"Boss, it's done." A well-dressed middle-aged man stood on one side and said.
"G2?" The young man casually tossed the wine glass in his hand onto the carpet and turned his head to look at the middle-aged man.
"Yes." The middle-aged man replied.
A glint of excitement flashed in the young man's eyes. Then, he laughed in a low voice and said coldly: "So, Lebo is dead. No matter… what's important is that we got what we needed. Make sure no one connected to Lebo is left alive."
Lebo was the middle-aged man that Kenda had killed in the drug factory.
"Yes!" The middle-aged man paused, and did not leave immediately. Instead, he asked, "What should we do with the remaining members of Barney's gang?"
"Don't worry. There are plenty of dogs in Spice City. Just tease them a bone and let them fight over scraps for now."
"Besides, don't you think... that super fancy mansion, plus all those dogs, would make for an excellent G2 testing ground?"
