Gourmet Hunter (HxH Fanfic)

Chapter 368 Cave And Woman

'Since Netero called me specially, it must be because of the second stage of the Hunter Exam, so I'd better avoid it if I can.'

Law put away his phone and offered an apologetic smile to the village father and daughter before turning his attention back to the food on the table.

There are always unforgettable delicacies in the small mountain village, like the cured meat on the table. It's made with a unique method, and the fat on each slice is crystal clear and glows red.

"Law, this blizzard outside won't stop anytime soon, so stay a few more days before leaving!" The middle-aged uncle suggested.

"No, I've already overstayed my welcome." Law declined.

"How could that be? If it weren't for you, I'd be a frozen corpse in the mountains by now." The uncle looked a little emotional.

Law didn't know how to respond, so he could only concentrate on eating, until his bowl was empty.

"Give me your bowl."

Seeing this, the uncle's daughter reached out toward Law.

"Thank you." Law handed her the empty bowl, accidentally brushing against her hand. The girl's delicate face flushed red as she quickly pulled her hand back.

Looking at this scene, Law thought about slipping away quickly after finishing the meal.

After leaving the second stage's location, he had wandered into the mountains when the blizzard suddenly hit. On the mountain path, he'd found the man, who had twisted his ankle while chasing a sika deer. Law helped him and brought him back to his home.

The blizzard had arrived abruptly and fiercely, persisting for days without letting up. Combined with the man's warm hospitality, Law ended up staying for a few days, waiting for the storm to ease. But instead of weakening, the blizzard only grew stronger.

The sudden storm had even damaged several houses in the village. All the able-bodied men braved the snow to rescue affected villagers, and Law didn't sit idle either.

With his help, people were quickly rescued, and he assisted in shoveling snow off roofs.

From rescue to snow-clearing, Law didn't use his Nen Ability. After all, the people in this village knew nothing about Nen, so using it recklessly might scare them.

It was also from that day that the uncle's attitude changed significantly and he began promoting his daughter. His intention is very obvious.

Seeing that the situation was not good, Law planned to leave today, even if it meant braving the storm.

To be honest, the uncle's daughter is very pretty. Although she has some pockmarks on her cheeks, she carried an honest, rustic charm, so she is a very suitable wife material. Unfortunately, the uncle had run into Law.

After finishing his meal, under the uncle's regretful gaze, Law stepped into the endless white ahead.

As he left, he could feel a sorrowful stare on his back and felt somewhat helpless, 'I hadn't done anything to the girl, so why had she fallen for me?'

The sky was choked with thick, dark clouds. A biting wind howled, hurling snowflakes violently against Law's body.

Visibility was near zero. The world was a blur of white, with nothing but the relentless storm sweeping past his eyes.

This blizzard could bury an ordinary person within minutes, but it had no effect on Law.

"Tsk tsk, I find that you are really popular with women. Just freeloading a meal was enough to win the daughter's heart." Kuro said as he emerged from the tattoo on Law's hand, perching on his shoulder.

Law stood on the top of a towering slope and could barely see that there was a sloping downhill slope ahead. If he was not careful when walking, he'd tumble all the way down, likely turning into a snowball by the bottom.

He glanced at Kuro and said, "How about turning into a snowboard for some fun?"

"Get lost!" Kuro's fur bristled. He just came out to tease Law, but in less than two seconds, he was frightened by Law's words and fled back into the tattoo.

If it were a life-or-death situation, Kuro might reluctantly transform into a snowboard to help Law even if he didn't want to. But if it was just for fun, he would be unwilling to turn into a snowboard for Law to play with.

Seeing Kuro refuse, Law could only sigh in disappointment, 'If Kuro weren't so stubborn, he could have transformed into all sorts of cool vehicles, like Zoldyck Family's Tsubone. That'd be awesome.'

Even without Kuro's cooperation, Law had other methods. He used the God Hand to transform a snow-covered tree into a lightweight sled, and then rode it down the slope, becoming a striking sight amid the blizzard.

Nen is humanity's most powerful weapon against nature.

With Nen at his disposal, Law was not afraid of the blizzard. Instead, he turned the travel into a snow game. Even on flat terrain, he could use his Aura as propulsion, gliding smoothly across the snow.

By nightfall, the blizzard still raged intensely.

Law happened to see a man-made cave and decided to rest for a night before moving on.

The cave had obvious signs of human intervention, carved into a three-meter-high stone wall.

With a light leap, he landed at the entrance, but he unexpectedly found a person lying inside.

Due to the dim lighting, he could not tell whether it was a man or a woman, or how old the person was, but there was still a faint breath, indicating that they were alive.

"Hello."

Law stood at the entrance of the cave. After all, he wasn't the first one here, so he politely greeted them first.

However, the person on the dry grass pile remained silent.

Seeing no response, Law called out again, but the person still didn't react. If not for the faint sound of breathing, he might have thought it was a corpse.

Realizing the person might be unconscious, and considering he'd be staying here for the night, Law summoned Kuro and said, "Go find some firewood and food."

This time, Kuro didn't refuse, but as usual, he demanded his share of any good finds.

Compared his usual conditions for killing, the conditions for eating are easier to accept, so Law usually does not refuse.

With that, Kuro vanished into the blizzard.

Law stayed in the cave for a while, slowly letting his eyes adjust to the darkness. Then, after a while, he could make out the simple layout.

The cave wasn't deep or large. There was a pile of dry grass and a makeshift stove built from a few stones. It should be that the people who have been active in the vicinity for many years have modified the existing cave and used it as a temporary resting place.

Now that his vision had adjusted, the blurry figure on the haystack became clearer.

"A woman?"

The person on the haystack was lying on their side, facing away from Law. While her clothing was hard to distinguish, her silhouette was slender, and she also seemed to be wearing some kind of ear-shaped headpiece.

Law walked lightly to the edge of the haystack. He did not touch the woman rashly, but called out several times from the side.

"Hungry… I'm hungry..."

The woman stirred slightly, rolling over as she mumbled weakly. If not for Law's sharp hearing, he might not have been able to hear her clearly.

"Food will be here soon. Hang in there."

Law tried to get a better look at her face, but the light was still too dim and he couldn't see it clearly. The only clear detail was the thing on her head, which looked like Mickey Mouse's ears.

Half an hour later, Kuro returned with firewood and food. When he learned that the person in the cave was a woman, he immediately stared at Law with strange eyes.

"Your luck with women..."
