Chapter 149: Chapter 149 Intention

From the moment the ordinary people fell and Law's sword sliced through the Nen Bullets, Meteor City's forces had lost any real chance of turning the tide.

Unfortunately, Meteor City's ethos was to charge headlong, even into a wall, without ever looking back.

Neither the sweeping aura that knocked out most of their subordinates nor the rusted blade that cleaved through Nen Bullets could sway the Elders into letting Law leave without a fight.

When Law pointed his sword at them, the Elders did not need to give any orders, as the Nen Users who were accompanying them already took the initiative to rush towards Law to create an opportunity for the Elders.

These third-rate Nen Users were barely at the entry level. They haven't developed their own Nen Ability and can only use Aura to achieve feats ordinary people couldn't.

Any Nen User, as long as they can make good use of their Aura, could overpower even the strongest non-Nen combatants, so even a third-rate Nen User has its value.

However, when facing a far superior opponent, their supposed strength became meaningless.

Knowing her limitations, Sanbica didn't hesitate to retreat. Close combat was her weak point, and with her task completed, she turned and left without a second thought.

When Sanbica left, Law looked at the twenty or so Nen Users charging at him. Lowering his sword, he smirked faintly.

"This is my first time cutting people with a sword."

The meaningless mumbling sound penetrated the ears of everyone present.

Then, without warning, Law swung his sword in a horizontal slash toward empty air, which was a basic sword technique.

Whoosh…!

A crescent-shaped Flying Slash detached from the blade, hurtling toward the charging Nen users.

Within an instant, those who stepped into a 20-meter range found themselves unable to react. The Flying Slash sliced through them, splitting their bodies in two.

The Flying Slash landed just below their elbows, near the chest. As a result, not only were their torsos severed, but their arms were also amputated.

"Eh?"

The Nen Users froze mid-charge, with puzzled expressions on their faces.

Their upper bodies and severed arms fell to the ground one after another, but their lower bodies strangely remained standing and did not fall down.

There was no blood, nor any screams, because none of them felt anything.

Time seemed to freeze, and the battlefield fell into eerie silence.

The confusion on the faces of the fallen Nen Users seemed to be mocking the dismembered remains scattered on the ground.

In a single moment, the last of Meteor City's fighting force had been annihilated. And Law had only swung his blade once.

Shabo and Kit stood frozen, paralyzed by the scene. Their original plan had been to wait for their subordinates to distract Law, creating an opportunity to strike. But they had barely taken a step forward when their men were all cut down in one fell swoop.

"An Emitter's ability...?"

From his vantage point on the rooftop, Marshal witnessed the scene clearly and he shuddered involuntarily. Being an Emitter himself, he understood the terrifying nature of the Flying Slash.

When the Flying Slash slashed out, not only Marshall, but Shabo and Kit could see it too. It was a crescent-shaped Nen Wave with a considerable length.

Judging from the effect it caused, the characteristics of the Flying Slash were incomparably sharp, unlike the impact characteristics of Marshall's Nen Bullet.

The Elders can see the Flying Slash because they are already second-rate Nen Users. The Aura emitted by Law was so potent that even without focusing Aura in their eyes, it was impossible to miss.

But it is different for their subordinates. They are just third-rate Nen Users and need to deliberately focus a portion of their Aura into their eyes so that they can see the Flying Slash shooting out from the sword.

But when they charged at Law, they distributed most of their Aura on their limbs, so when Law slashed with his sword, they could not see the Flying Slash. While they could still feel the existence of the Flying Slash, they were unable to respond.

Being able to feel it is one thing, but being able to avoid it is another. The reason for their failure is their underdeveloped skills and their lack of sensitivity to Aura.

Although Law's Flying Slash can easily cut through their defenses, it also has disadvantages. That is, it was highly conspicuous. After all, it was a direct frontal attack that left no room for subtlety.

A skilled Nen user wouldn't need to see the slash, as their heightened sensitivity to Aura would allow them to dodge it instinctively.

'What exactly is his ability?' Shabo's face was covered in cold sweat, 'That Flying Slash should be an Emission-Type Ability, but what kind of ability is it to stop bullets and defend against exploding grenades? Also, how could the person who was cut off by a sword still be alive and not bleed?'

At this time, Kit's eyes gleamed coldly. He didn't overthink the situation and simply whispered: "Cover me."

No explanation was needed, as they understood each other's Nen Abilities and how to coordinate.

If they were unwilling to retreat, their only option was to fight to the death.

Hearing Kit's whisper, Shabo calmed his nerves and gritted his teeth as he charged toward Law.

Being an Enhancer, Shabo was best suited for frontline combat. If Ruul were still alive, Shabo would have made an excellent partner.

If one were to compare Shabo's Nen Ability to a creature, it would be a turtle.

His ability, [Indomitable Shield], was known for its defensive prowess, though its offensive capabilities were minimal. Its true potential was realized when paired with Ruul's [Paired Destroyers].

As long as Ruul planted the patterns of the sun and the moon on Shabo's body, all Shabo had to do was get closer to the enemy.

Using his shield to protect himself, Shabe would become a walking bomb, dealing damage by self-detonation. In layman's terms, he is an indestructible, inflatable decoy.

However, Ruul had already died at Law's hands, so it was naturally impossible for him to cooperate with Shabo. At the moment, all Shabo could do was to cooperate with Kit's Nen Ability and serve as a distraction for Law.

[Shadow Game]... that was Kit's Nen Ability.

The scary thing about the Manipulation-Type Ability is that once the conditions are met, it would be instant kill.

Shabo had seen Law's strength firsthand, but he knew there was still hope. While Shabo's shield and Marshall's ranged attacks weren't enough to defeat Law, Kit's Shadow Game offered their best chance of victory.

The key to winning lay in helping Kit meet the conditions for his ability. If they could do that, the battle would be theirs.

Law, who is unaware of their plans, calmly watched as Shabo fearlessly charged toward him. Without hesitation, he swung his sword in Shabo's direction, releasing another Flying Slash.

'I can't dodge it. The only way to unleash the shield's full potential is by enduring all incoming damage!'

Shabo could clearly see the approaching slash and had the ability to evade it. However, the essence of Indomitable Shield lay in its ability to withstand damage. Hesitation or retreat would render it meaningless.

His role was to act as an indestructible cockroach, drawing Law's attention entirely onto himself.

'I can't dodge! I can't dodge!'

These words raced through Shabo's mind like lightning. Then, the delayed screams of his fallen subordinates pierced his thoughts.

The men who were cut in half by the Flying Slash screamed in despair at this moment, as if their souls were returning to their bodies.

Hearing this, a hint of fear flashed in Shabo's eyes. He instinctively halted his charge and leaned his upper body back to avoid the Flying Slash.

Though he dodged it, he felt no relief.

The scene of the Flying Slash easily cutting off his subordinates just now made him lose his absolute confidence.

Seeing Shabo dodge the Flying Slash, Law remained unfazed and prepared to unleash another slash.

The Nen Abilities of Nen Users are varied and strange. If one can eliminate the enemy without getting close to them, then there is no need to get close.

Judging from Shabo's action of rushing straight towards him, Law suspected his Nen Ability was suited for close combat. Thus, it made sense to continue attacking from mid-range with Flying Slash.

Just as Law was about to strike again, three Nen bullets from Marshall came hurtling toward him.

Three Nen Bullets are the maximum number Marshall can fire in one attack.

The target he was aiming at was not Law, but the ground in front of Law.

However, Law seemed to have seen through his purpose. He took two steps forward and swung his sword to cut off the three Nen Bullets.

At that moment, Marshall looked extremely ugly.

Law hadn't just sliced through the Nen Bullets, but had also neutralized their explosive power!

Marshall could see it clearly. The Nen Bullets, which were severed in mid-air, had their power significantly diminished, not because of any inherent flaw in Marshall's attack but due to Law's precise slashes!

What frustrated Marshall even more was that he had deliberately aimed for the ground. His goal had been to create some dust cloud and obscure Law's vision, creating an opening for Shabo and Kit to act.

However, Law deliberately stepped forward to intercept the Nen Bullets mid-flight, weakening their impact and preventing the dust cloud from forming.
