Godzilla vs. Sonic

Chapter 10: Reunited

Sonic and Miles flew through the clear sky on Mothra's back, only a moment after escaping from Godzilla. "Okay then, 'Sonic'. You're probably wondering what's going on. I'm Miles Prower. This is my good friend, Leo," the two-tailed fox cub said. Sonic tilted his head to the side. Leo? "But you can just call her Mothra, I suppose." Sonic snapped his fingers and smiled. Mothra sang a confused melody. "I know, I know. But I have to call you something, right?" Miles turned to Sonic. "She's just starting to understand. When I found her as a larva, her mother had fallen in battle with a giant three-headed dragon." Sonic seemed saddened. Was Mothra Leo's mother the same creature he raced on South Island? He had hoped to see her again. Miles flipped out his gizmo, and Sonic's drooping ears quickly perked up. It looked leagues ahead of any human handheld devices he had seen. It displayed a rotating model of a fearsome three-headed beast.

"After a short visit to a Japanese kaiju museum earlier today, I found a big golden scale on display," Miles explained, scrolling down towards information on the beast. According to the data Miles had collected, this beast made Godzilla look puny. "The exhibit had a name written by it: King Ghidorah. The scale was identical to the ones covering the monster that attacked my island and slayed Leo's mother. Ever since we learned about these dangerous kaiju, Leo and I have been searching for them in order to prevent any more destruction. I thought we were the only ones who could do it, but we hadn't actually seen any action until running into you and that weird lizard thing. You had it on the ropes, and you're just a tiny little hedgehog! So maybe we can make a difference too, y'know?" Sonic raised an eyebrow at Miles, putting a hand atop his own head and moving it in a straight line above Miles' ear. "Eheh… I guess I don't have any room to talk." Sonic smiled a little, and gave Miles a thumbs-up.

"You can do cool things too, 'Tails'," Sonic said. Miles looked his way with wonder.

"... Tails?" He asked. The fox cub beamed. "Tails! I love that name! It's so much better than Miles." Sonic chuckled. "Yeah, I guess my second tail is pretty neat. I can fly with it, but not nearly as quickly as Leo. She might even give you a run for your money." Sonic rubbed his olive-nose smugly.

"When I have ground to run on, I'll show you what real speed is," Sonic replied. Mothra Leo responded with a song that sounded like laughter. Suddenly, the three heard a loud roaring sound, putting them on high alert. They all turned their heads to see large airplanes flying near them. Sonic put a hand in front of Tails, but calmed down when he looked closer and saw that there weren't any visible weapons. They looked more like passenger planes.

"That's weird. Why are they going the same direction as us?" Tails asked. Sonic's eyes widened as he caught sight of something in the distance. He leapt to the other side of Mothra… before zooming forward, and leaping off of the kaiju's back. Tails watched, startled as Sonic descended onto one of the planes.

"Wait… did Kyoko-sama and her fiance even leave their room?" Yui asked, sat next to her brother on a packed evacuation flight. "What if Godzilla gets them?" Tsubasa couldn't be bothered to pull his eye mask up, his hands resting on his stomach.

"Mmno… I don't care. Because they sure don't. They're probably just gonna keep trying for…" Tsubasa trailed off into a yawn, and began to snore. Yui seemed conflicted. Suddenly, there was a thud against their plane window. Yui let out a short scream, and looked outside to see Sonic hugging the plane window from atop the left wing. The other passengers around her began to murmur, only a few of them catching a mere glimpse at the hedgehog outside. But Yui was delighted. She tilted her head to the window, putting a hand on the glass.

"Sonic…? Big brother, wake up! It's Sonic, Sonic's here!" Yui exclaimed. Tsubasa quickly took off his eye mask, taking a second to register this. He then laughed triumphantly.

"Hey, Sonic! I knew we'd see you again!" Tsubasa exclaimed. Sonic winked. Yui felt a bell sound go off in her head. She began to sweat.

"... So, you two are friends already, huh?" Yui asked sheepishly. Tsubasa was confused, but then he realized what she meant.

"Ah, yeah…!" Tsubasa said, scratching the back of his head as Sonic straightened out his quills and tried to stay cool. "Yui, you've never actually been awake to see Sonic, have you?" Tsubasa reached for his newspaper. "Yui, I'm going to show him your manga."

"Eeehhh?? No way! It's too embarrassing!" Yui cried, blocking Sonic's view from the manga she had made about him. Sonic, face pressed on the glass, tried to get a good look at the manga that starred himself. Yui eventually gave in, looking away from Sonic and letting Tsubasa show him the manga. Sonic's face beamed, and Yui took a deep breath. "He likes it!" She let her head rest on the seat. "Y'know, big brother. If it weren't for the news reporting on him, I'd think you were playing a prank like some delinquent…" Yui sighed, crossing her arms. She then opened one eye. "Wait… you write for the news, big brother! Is this a conspiracy??" She exclaimed.

Mothra flew closer to the plane. Tsubasa thought it best not to tell Yui to look out the window again, as he saw Sonic grab onto Tails' hand and get hoisted onto the moth kaiju. Mothra flew off ahead of the plane, Sonic giving Tsubasa one last thumbs-up before they departed.

"Big brother?" Yui asked, cluelessly looking at Tsubasa's dumbfounded expression. "Why is your face doing that?"
