Godzilla Earth: Origin

Chapter 118: Volume 2 Chapter 61: Arrival on Earth!

Accelerating, continuously accelerating—until their speed reached a level where nuclear weapons could no longer intercept them!

The Ghidorah's Wings expelled material from within their bodies, their speed surging from tens of kilometers per second to an astonishing 40 kilometers per second! This was a velocity that rendered interception within the atmosphere impossible.

The nuclear weapons could no longer keep up with their rapid descent, and even Skynet was powerless in the face of this. There was no way to make the nuclear missiles exceed their design limits to match the incredible speed of the two Ghidorah's Wings.

From this point onward, no additional nuclear missiles struck their bodies, allowing them to approach the ground "unscathed" in the following seconds.

But the acceleration itself had already cost the Ghidorah's Wings dearly—tens of thousands of tons of their mass, sacrificed as fuel!

Achieving such an extraordinary boost in speed within just a few dozen seconds was no trivial feat. Instead of gradually building speed over thousands of kilometers, the Ghidorah's Wings had to shed nearly a third of their mass to fuel the acceleration.

To avoid damaging their core structures, most of the mass ejected consisted of their armor and excess body material. In mere moments, their once-majestic, full forms had been reduced to skeletal frames.

As the two skeletal figures plummeted toward the Earth, the satellites ceased launching nuclear missiles. Skynet had already calculated their fate: death upon impact.

With their current mass and velocity, the impact on the ground would unleash an explosive force equivalent to 100 megatons of TNT. If they were in peak condition, they might have withstood it, but now? After being battered by countless nuclear strikes and sacrificing much of their structure, their fate was sealed.

From the heavens, the two Ghidorah's Wings fell like twin suns. Their contrails no longer carried the mushroom clouds of nuclear explosions but instead gleamed with the high-temperature metallic gases expelled from their bodies.

These distinct, shimmering metal gases spread throughout the upper atmosphere, tinting the falling light with an eerie beauty.

On the ground, people near the shelters gazed at the descending stars. Though they didn't yet know that the Ghidorah's Wings were doomed, they somehow felt a strange sense of calm, unlike their previous terror.

Did we win?

Although no official announcement had been made, this thought surfaced in everyone's minds. Order returned as people queued once more.

At the entrance of a shelter, an elderly man stepped inside. After retrieving his identification ticket from a service robot, he followed its guidance down a staircase—100 meters deep into the Earth.

The underground space was crowded with weary survivors. He found his designated bed, settled the small girl sleeping fitfully on it, and lay down himself.

Finally... a moment of peace.

He closed his eyes, ready to rest. To sleep.

Boom!

A deafening explosion erupted near Beijing's outskirts as a massive fireball rose into the sky. A blazing sun seemed to emerge from the Earth, shattering the gloom and evil that had lingered. The ensuing shockwave swept through the ancient city with devastating force.

Meanwhile, near Shanghai, the other Ghidorah's Wings plunged into the ocean, creating a towering water column tens of kilometers high. The subsequent tsunami, with waves dozens of meters tall, inundated the coastline, destroying numerous buildings.

Minutes later, the fireball dissipated into a mushroom cloud, and the water column and tsunami began to subside.

In the East Asia Monster combat command base, cheers erupted. They had succeeded—at least for now. The immediate threat posed by these two Ghidorah's Wings was eliminated, ensuring the safety of East Asia.

The two heavily injured Ghidorah's Wings couldn't withstand the final collision. Their bodies were utterly destroyed in the fiery impacts, with fragments scattering hundreds of kilometers away.

Though the room celebrated, this was only a temporary victory. These two Ghidorah's Wings were just the appetizer—the real challenge lay ahead. The next wave, comprising more than 20 Ghidorah's Wings descending from space, would be the true test. Only by eliminating all of them could East Asia truly breathe easy.

"Skynet really pulled through," someone remarked, praising the AI developed by the Space Agency.

"It's not just Europe's doing," another person added. "Our regional science institutes contributed a lot to its optimization. Honestly, every country played a part in this."

As conversations grew more relaxed, the mood in the room shifted when a communications officer's expression turned grim.

"What—? Thank you, we understand—"

His loud response caught everyone's attention. The expressions on the faces of those present showed they understood—something had gone terribly wrong elsewhere.

"What's the situation?" General Zhang asked.

The communications officer replied with a pale face:

"Sir, one Ghidorah's Wings is projected to land in the Middle East… and it's estimated that live Ghidorah's Wings will also land in South Africa and Northern Europe."

"Wait, why?"

"What's going on?"

"How could this happen?!"

The room filled with disbelief. Wasn't Skynet controlling the satellites in those regions? They had significant firepower. Even one failure might be understandable—but multiple regions at once?

Could it be because our firepower here was too overwhelming?

At that moment, a satellite operator displayed imagery from the European sector on the main screen, revealing the cause of their failure.

The footage showed two Ghidorah's Wings working together—one had expanded its wings to completely shield the other, enduring all the attacks itself.

By sacrificing itself, it ensured the safe arrival of its kin.
