Chapter 1: Guild Rumors and Mizusawa Kazue
[Narrator POV]
"I am telling you this is not just a rumor!" <Girl>
"ehh~ heroes huh..." <Man>
"buuu~ it seems that you still don't believe me." <Girl>
"Haha, if that is true, I would like to see them in person." <Man>
"Grrr... would you like a bet then?" <Girl>
The girl was telling this to her companion when a sudden noise rang.
The somehow loud bar from the various conversation of the people who were eating became silent.
-BANG-
A boy appeared at the door while holding a piece of paper in his hand and was breathing heavily.
Standing still in front of the door he just opened, he started shouting with a wide smile on his face.
"NEWS! BIG NEWS!!" <News Boy>
The boy shouts so that everyone in the bar could hear him.
"Whoa~ calm yourself lad" <Man 2>
A man approached the boy who suddenly came screaming. He handed him a glass of water; the boy looked at the man while catching his breath.
He closed his mouth and swallow his saliva to moisten his dried throat.
He feels that his throat was still dry so he took the glass of water that the man offered and downed its content into his mouth.
Quickly he let out a deep breath after he drank the water and looked refreshed.
"So? what's the news?" <News Boy>
The man who gave the boy a glass of water said while smiling at the boy.
His smile encouraged the boy to say the news in his mouth.
"It's the heroes! They have arrived!" <News Boy>
Everybody in the bar gave an amazed gasp.
They know that the boy was a news messenger directly working within the Empire castle.
The people in the bar knew about this so they did not doubt the boy even for a bit.
When the boy said these words, a girl sitting at the table not so far away stood up after carefully listening to the news the boy gave.
She was the same girl spreading rumors about the heroes being summoned by the Empire.
Nobody believed her at first but it turned out that she was indeed saying the truth.
With a smug face, she pulled the shirt of the man she was talking to.
"See! See I told you!" <Girl>
"Ahh~ so it is true then." <Man>
The boy looked in their direction he could not help but smile at them, after all, he felt a weird feeling of pride as a news carrier to confirm the circulating rumors.
"Yes, it is true the Empire had just summoned 28 hero candidates from the other world 2 days ago." <News Boy>
With just those words the people in the bar became noisy sharing their amazement with their companions and with some random people who wanted to share their feeling in that same bar.
"Whoa, 28 heroes? that's quite a lot." <Witch Adventurer>
A girl with a witch-like outfit said in amazement.
"I want to meet one of them." <Middle-aged Adventurer>
A middle-aged man in light armor said while he touches his beard.
"hoo~ I want to see and fight them." <Muscle-man Adventurer>
Said a man about 2-meter-tall with unnaturally large muscles said as he swings his large ax to show off his muscles.
It became rowdy at the bar after this news has arrived.
"YES~ so that’s how it is" <News Boy>
The boy walked toward a counter on the opposite side of the door where he just entered.
There was a girl who was wearing a nice set of clothes that an office worker would wear.
With a skirt that was just above her knees and a formal-looking blouse and shirt, the brown-haired beauty stuck out of all the people in the bar.
"Miss Daniella, can I see the guild master so I can pass him official notice from the Imperial Magician?" <News Boy>
Daniella seemed to be a worker in this place.
She smiled at the messenger, a kind of smile a clerk of an information booth would wear when talking to a customer when asking questions.
At first glance, Daniella looked out of place when compared with the other people in the bar.
Unlike Daniella, they are wearing some kind of battle clothes while carrying weapons and bags but she was wearing some kind of uniform.
The reason for this was because this place was not only a bar, it was a place where people who call themselves adventurers gather in the "adventurer’s guild".
Daniella was one of this guild’s so-called receptionists.
"Ah yes please follow me." <Daniella>
The boy ran to the girl named Daniella and followed her to a door that was leading upstairs where the guild master would be.
At the corner of the bar right by the table closest to the door.
A girl with sharp-looking eyes groans.
She’s been doing this a lot lately especially these past 2 days.
After hearing this news when she was silently eating by herself, she carefully hid her face inside the hood of her robe from the people in the bar.
"Uhh... what should I do… I was planning to apply as an adventurer today... I knew it I should have gone straight toward that girl a while ago! What if they realize that I was one of the heroes? guhh, some of them even want to fight us. I hope no one finds out..." <Sharp Female Student>
She whispered to herself.
Yes, this girl was one of the 28 heroes that were summoned 2 days ago. Her name is Mizusawa Kazue.
***************************
In the castle where the capital city of Artesia. The imperial Magician Orga Les Versi together with his trusted mages had summoned the heroes from the other world.
They called the whole class of a certain school where Mizusawa Kazue was one of them.
After the summoning, the student of the class had mixed reactions.
Orga was shocked that they already knew the reason and some basic stuff about their summoning that made Orga lose his composure.
Orga was expecting that the summoned heroes would be more confused and clueless about their situation.
He already decided before all of this happened that he will become their mentor in this unfamiliar world.
He would teach the heroes all of the stuff they needed to know about this world.
He was confident about this.
But then to his surprise, most of them had a clear idea of the situation and needed only minimal information resulting in his resolve to go to waste.
Kazue who was watching the whole thing transpire felt sorry for the imperial magician after seeing his problematic reaction from the students of class 2-B.
Thankfully the class president, Hano Ryuusei was able to calm his classmates down.
With that Imperial magician, Orga explained the situation to the students after guiding them into a more conducive place to talk.
The 28 teens were guided into a smaller room that has many chairs lined up.
This room seems to be a conference room and so the student naturally finds a place to sit down.
Then the student started asking Orga about their situation now with the 4 nerdy boys leading the questioning.
As expected, their situation was very similar to the cliché isekai story so, in the end, it needed not much explanation.
Thus, rather than explaining the whole situation Mr. Orga just gave short confirmations and gave little detail about things that the student needed and wanted to know.
The four nerds ended up explaining most of the things that the class needed to know.
Surprisingly their knowledge went in handy in their current situation.
Those guys were unexpectedly dependable in this situation.
Honestly, it is as if this group of students was looking forward to it and was prepared for this kind of situation to happen all along.
That was what Mizusawa Kazue thought about those 4 boys.
Truth to be told, Kazue was not clueless about this kind of story herself.
After all, she saw several of these stories as a casual fan of the anime culture.
With this, she was able to grasp the situation with no difficulty.
She played a few RPG games before, so the terms that the Old Imperial Magician was explaining were not foreign to her.
She was familiar with the term “Status”, “Title”, “Monsters”, “Spells” and such.
In actuality, she might have been the same with the 4 nerds if she just invested more time on this kind of thing before.
And so, after several minutes of questioning, most of the questions of the students were answered.
He then called for the knights to carry the stone from earlier.
The same stone that displays their “status” that the four-nerds thinker with from a while back.
As the old man explained, this was a special stone that is used by the people of this world to look at their status. The students lined up in front of the stone to check their status.
It ended up well.
It was all thanks to the class president Hano Ryuusei that made the whole process easier.
He was able to instruct and lead the whole class, it looked so natural to him.
“As expected from the class president.” Kazue said silently to herself.
The students started to check their status one by one.
The student of class 2-B used their notebooks to write their status on a piece of paper so they would not forget about it.
There was a card that can be used to save the status called the “status cards” but it will be given the next day.
The students were transferred into this parallel world with their bags and belongings.
Using their notebooks and pens they copied their status into their notebooks.
They also used these tools when taking notes when Orga was explaining their situation.
Later on, all of the 28 students of class 2-B have seen their status using the mysterious stone tablet.
They naturally gathered into groups and asked each other questions.
They were showing each other their status and started comparing notes and asking questions.
"Hey what skill do you have"
"Can we freely add our stats"
"Eh I don’t want these skills"
"Hey, I wonder if we can trade skills?"
"What's this "DEX" stat do?"
"Hey, Minato should we make a party then?"
"I wonder if the Empire does not have a hidden agenda for summoning us?"
"Can we change our job class?"
“What kind of monster would we fight in this world"
"Uhmm, I want to be safe; I don’t want to fight the demon lord."
"I wonder if we can still access the internet"
It was a barrage of random questions that may be related or non-related to their skill and their situation.
On the side, Mr. Orga who was supposed to be the one who would instruct these 28 heroes had lost his chance to assert himself to them.
It was because they were doing things just fine even without his guidance.
He went out of the room while looking completely defeated.
Mizusawa Kazue could not help but silently stare at the old man going out of the room since nobody wanted to ask questions at him.
It was understandable since it was easier to ask your friend for information than to ask some unknown guy for information.
Since all of their questions can be answered by their classmates, they decided to ask them instead of the sketchy old man.
She just watched the imperial magician leave while feeling sorry for him.
And so, time passed by.
The night came.
During the first day, Mizusawa Kazue had taken in most information she needed to know about their situation.
Kazue took her notes and reviewed the things that she noted during the day.
She was reading this while still having disbelief that they got summoned into another world but as she looks at her note the reality of what was happening became clearer and clearer.
She was able to understand several things about this new world.
First, this world was a typical game-like world.
With the keyword Status, they were able to see their status.
Things like job, skill, and titles exist and work the same as those of those RPG games in their old world.
It seemed that level can be measured too but it was not displayed in the stone they used.
Orga explained that level is only used by the adventurer’s guild for classifying adventurers from F-rank to S-rank.
There was no need to check for their level since all of them start at level 1.
It seems that they can power up by killing a monster to increase their level or train with the soldier of the Empire to increase our stats little by little.
Second, they are summoned to the world called “Earth”, the same as their old world's name. They use the same speech and writing system as that of the old world.
This world may have the same name but it is not the same. But surprisingly, there are a lot of other parallels between the two worlds other than the name.
Third, this world works with magic and sword and their technological advancement was at the level of that in the medieval ages.
It also resembles a typical game-like system where job, level, stat, title, and skill exist like it’s a normal thing.
And lastly, they were summoned to the Empire called Artesia and the king is Arcane Pau Artesia IV who is the current ruler.
It was the same guy they saw sitting on the throne when they were summoned.
And just like in most isekai stories they were the heroes and are tasked to defeat the demon lord who has begun terrorizing the world at present time.
Kazue turns the page of her notebook. She read the status that she copied from the stone.
It seemed that they cannot choose our jobs, also to learn a skill they have to train our bodies to acquire the skills.
Mizusawa Kazue was quite happy with her stats.
Compared to her classmates her stats were a bit higher.
Although her Stats was quite high it was nowhere near the stats of the Class President and 3 other girls.
After seeing her status, she was able to determine that she was not that special.
Since 4 of her classmates got those unique jobs and bizarre stats.
Those four guys seemed to have the role to be the front runner to defeat the demon lord.
She was partly disappointed and at the same time relieved.
Disappointed because she did not acquire cheat-like abilities and become someone special in this world.
Relieved because she does not have to bear the responsibility to carry the hopes of her 27 classmates to return to their original world.
It seems that this role would be with the class president who got the “Hero” job and 3 other girls.
Those three happened to be Kazue’s close friends in class who incidentally have a romantic feeling for the class president.
She looks at those 4 who was standing right in front of the room's door and smiled.
"Uwah... that looks like a Rough-path for those three girls. I don’t want to join their group." <Kazue>
Mizusawa Kazue said as she looks at the main party who is tasked to clear the world so that they could go back home.
The party of the Hero, Saint, Sword Priestess, and Sage.
At the moment, the class was gathered inside a sleeping quarter where all of them will be sleeping.
Inside the quarters were a lot of beds that were aligned side by side.
Curious, Kazue looks around while lying down in her chosen bed.
She saw different emotions from her classmates mixed around the room.
She looks left and saw the group of 4 otaku boys who looks so excited about their current situation.
Inside Kazue’s mind, she thought as she looks at them.
[They look happy, well they are Otakus after all. I will be more surprised if they were not happy at all.]
Looking further, she saw 7 other boys who are minding their own business while looking at their notebooks while thinking deeply.
Out of the 7 boys minding their own business 3 of them have problematic looks while the other 4 are happily thinking of random things while looking at their notebooks.
Next, she looked to the right and then noticed that the girls were divided into 2 groups.
She immediately notices this since they are gathered in 2 places.
The first group of girls who were 2 beds away from her looks happy.
In general, this group of girls looks fine with their current situation.
Meanwhile, the other group looks grim, you can immediately tell that they are having a hard time accepting their current situation.
They are trying to console each other by convincing each other that everything is going to be alright.
And further away Kazue notices another girl who’s minding her own business as she looks at her notebook.
Kazue went back to look at her status.
It was not special, she does not have any cheat ability, and her stats were high but it was not that far from the average stat of her classmates, she does not have skill just yet and she has no title as well.
The only thing she has is her clothes and her bag full of school-related things like pens and notebooks.
Mizusawa Kazue has a background in playing games.
She was influenced by her older brother who plays a lot of these games.
From time to time when Kazue wants to waste some time relaxing, she would borrow these games from her brother and play at her own pace.
She was in no way a hard-core gamer since out of all the games she borrowed from her brother she had barely finished any of them.
If she was to be thankful for one of her previous knowledge areas it would be her knowledge of the sword.
She has a bit of a background in using a sword with her being a member of the kendo club.
She was not the best at it but she was confident that her knowledge of it would help her in this world.
Mizusawa Kazue looked in the direction of the hero party and smiled.
She thought...
[It’s as if I made a newly created character in an RPG game. It is a shame that I was not able to obtain cheat abilities just like Hano and my 3 friends]
She was a bit envious of their status.
She shrugged.
[It can’t be helped. Maybe it is the price when you have a romantic feeling toward the main character. I rather have this than get into the path of carnage with those 3 girls anyway. Good luck to you three…]
She said to herself while trying to look at things from a positive view.
[Now… What should I do… since I have been transferred to this world I might as well enjoy right? My motto here would be “having fun and experiencing new things while keeping myself safe”. I have a good background in using swords anyway, I think I can become an adventurer.]
With that in mind, Mizusawa Kazue decided to leave the Imperial Castle and become an adventurer to see the new world.
She walked toward the window where the boys are having a fun conversation.
She looked at the sky and saw a falling star.
She closed her eye and wished for a fun and exciting adventure as two stars fall from the sky.
