Godly Revival System: I Buy My Killer's Stats

Chapter 481: Tempting the Ancient Evil Spirit

Inside the black mist, the fight between Ethan's Undead Avatar and the Mist Demons was intense.

The Ancient Evil Spirit was observing the fight while keeping an eye on Ethan.

As for Ethan, he quickly perfected his plan… at least that's what he believed and hoped it would go without any issues.

"Are you telling me that thanks to you, I became an Abyssal Son?"

Once Ethan became a bit confident in his plan, he no longer wasted any time as he started acting on it.

The first step was to go along with what the Ancient Evil Spirit was claiming from the beginning.

Nevertheless, he directly acknowledged the Ancient Evil Spirit's claim; instead, he asked whether it was really the Ancient Evil Spirit that helped him become what he was today.

"Keke... you finally seem to acknowledge me, your real creator, and you are my masterpiece."

The Ancient Evil Spirit seemed to become happy to hear Ethan's question as though it wanted an acknowledgement… especially from the Abyssal Son it had created.

"If I am really your masterpiece, why do you want to kill me? Isn't it better to show off your achievements to others?"

Ethan said in a calm tone; however, deep down, his heart was racing, thinking about his plan.

"Keke… it is true that one shouldn't destroy their masterpiece."

Surprisingly, the Ancient Evil Spirit agreed with Ethan, which was completely out of Ethan's expectations.

However, before he could say anything, Ethan heard, "But, there are two major reasons behind why you needed to die."

"..."

Ethan remained silent as he listened to the reasons why the Ancient Evil Spirit wanted him to die.

"First, by consuming you, I can break through to the Soul Transformation Realm and complete my third and final awakening... Keke… I have been waiting for this..."

Soon, the Ancient Evil Spirit went off topic as he spouted nonsense regarding how much he had been waiting for this moment.

'Good. The more bullsh*t it spouts, the more information and time I can get.'

Nevertheless, Ethan was not frustrated about it; instead, he attentively listened to collect more information regarding the Ancient Evil Spirit that might help him kill it.

"As for the second reason….."

After a couple of minutes, the Ancient Evil Spirit started talking about the second reason, "....Letting an Abyssal Son live would always be a threat."

"It was because I have my fair share of experiences regarding the Heaven's Sons and the Abyssal Sons. There was one time..."

Like before, the Ancient Evil Spirit continued sharing his experiences regarding the past.

Actually, the Evil Spirits… spend most of their time alone in lonely places without anyone to properly talk to, not to mention sharing their experiences.

Of course, that doesn't mean they want to talk to the cultivators, as they have their own preferences.

Because of these reasons, they tend to talk a lot whenever they find someone they like.

Moreover, as an Ancient Evil Spirit that lived for hundreds of years, although it found the Heavenly Sons, it created something interesting... in front of Ethan, they were nothing.

Ethan was its masterpiece, and moreover, he was an Abyssal Son, making the Ancient Evil Spirit like him, and it started speaking a lot.

"Leave about the past, let's take your example."

Suddenly, the Ancient Evil Spirit started giving Ethan an example, "How long has it been since you left the Sky Cloud Sect?"

"And what was your cultivation back then?"

"In just six months, you become someone who could even kill the Low-level Nascent Soul Realm Cultivators on your own and with the help of your Abyssal Summon, you could even kill the High-level Nascent Soul Realm Cultivators."

"Now, tell me, if you were me, would you let your creation become even more powerful than you are?"

The Ancient Evil Spirit asked lots of questions, but it answered itself for almost all of them, but it expected an answer for the last question.

"..."

Ethan remained silent, his eyes narrowing as he mentally revised his plan, now infused with the new information gleaned from the Ancient Evil Spirit's ramblings.

'So… it wants to devour me for a breakthrough, and it's afraid of keeping me alive because I might eventually surpass it… Makes sense. And that "third and final awakening" must be tied to its true form. I'll have to act before that.'

"See? You have no answer for it… Keke."

The eerie chuckle echoed through the black mist again as the Ancient Evil Spirit took a step forward, its crimson eyes gleaming with dark anticipation.

"I understand it. You are afraid that I might kill you."

Taking a deep breath, Ethan slowly lifted his gaze and nodded, his expression unreadable.

But the Ancient Evil Spirit's eyes curved into crescents, pleased. It finally got the reaction it had been waiting for.

However, before it could revel in that satisfaction any further, Ethan's calm voice continued: "But… what if I become your slave?"

'Swiish'

The black mist stilled slightly.

"A loyal servant. A slave who never disobeys. Isn't that better than devouring an Abyssal Son? You can use me… as your weapon."

The silence that followed was suffocating. Then—

"Keke…"

The Ancient Evil Spirit burst into another fit of chuckles, far darker than before. It didn't last long, though.

It stopped laughing and shook its shadowy head.

"I understand what you're trying to do," it said coldly. "But becoming a slave to an entity like you… it is nothing but a death sentence."

Its tone turned firm, almost regretful, but not soft.

"Whether it's a Heaven's Son or an Abyssal Son, you all thrive in impossible odds. You turn despair into stepping stones and devour calamity like it's breakfast. Having someone like you as a slave is to sign my own doom."

Ethan furrowed his brows, but the Ancient Evil Spirit wasn't finished.

"I've seen this before. Those born with Heaven's Blessing or Abyssal Curse… they twist fate. Eventually, the master becomes the slave… or worse, the sacrifice."

Its voice turned colder as it continued, "Unlike you, I don't have the protection of the Abyss, and the moment I am caught between a Life and Death situation, my chances of survival are extremely slim, unlike you."

A faint hum vibrated in the surroundings as more Mist Demons gathered around them.

"You understand now? No matter what you offer, the only things I'll accept from you… Are your body and soul."

Ethan remained silent, his eyes narrowing slightly as his gaze shifted toward the battle in the distance.

His Undead Avatar, though still holding ground, had begun to falter slightly under the relentless pressure of the growing number of Mist Demons.

The skeletal frame flickered with unstable dark energy, its sword swings becoming slightly less fluid.

'I'll have to wrap this up soon… I can't afford to stretch it too long.'

Still, Ethan turned back toward the Ancient Evil Spirit and spoke in a calm, deliberate voice.

"I don't know what you had to endure in the past because of the Heaven's Sons and Abyssal Sons... but I have a proposal."

The red eyes in the mist narrowed with intrigue as the Ancient Evil Spirit floated slightly forward, leaning in with a curious smile. "Oh? A proposal, you say? Keke… of course, I'll listen to whatever you say."

It was amused—genuinely. Ethan could see it. The spirit had already decided his fate, yet it still indulged him. And that was fine.

'Excellent.'

Ethan's lips curled ever so slightly because the longer it listened, the deeper it walked into his trap.

Because Ethan was confident in his next words, that would definitely tempt the Ancient Evil Spirit.

"Earlier, you said one of the reasons you want to kill me… is to break through to the Soul Transformation Realm, right?"

"Yes."

The answer came immediately as there was no hesitation in its voice, but only anticipation.

Ethan nodded slowly and asked with a slight smile. "Then, what if I help you reach the Soul Transformation Realm… without having to devour me?"

At that moment, the space around them trembled slightly. Even the mist seemed to pause for a heartbeat.

"If you achieve the breakthrough you crave, you wouldn't need to consume me," Ethan continued. "And once you reach that level, even if you take me in as a slave, I won't pose any threat. You'll be beyond my reach."

'...'

There was complete silence inside the black mist as the Ancient Evil Spirit didn't respond immediately.

But Ethan could sense the weight of its thoughts as he muttered, 'It got tempted as I expected.'

Soon, the black mist churned for a moment, and then, coming out of the shock, the Ancient Evil Spirit asked Ethan in its eerie tone. "...What? What did you just say?"

The Ancient Evil Spirit's voice trembled—not from fear, but from disbelief and a budding excitement.

"You heard me. I said I have a method… to help you break through to the Soul Transformation Realm."

Ethan didn't smile, though he wanted to. He kept his tone even, and before he could ask any questions, he threw some logical reasons to support his claim.

"How do you think I grew to this level within such a short time? It was because I had shortcuts for every breakthrough… till the Soul Transformation Realm."

.

.

.

'Does he really have a way? A method that even I missed? Impossible… But… no harm in listening. Let's see what kind of fantasy he spins.'

The more Ethan spoke with confidence, the more convinced the Ancient Evil Spirit became.

Nevertheless, the Ancient Evil Spirit was quiet, but its aura surged ever so slightly, like a breath being held.

"Keke… go on. I'm listening."

Soon, its voice returned, calmer but sharper.
