Godly Beggar

Chapter 18: The Cycle of Progress

The school buzzed with its usual energy as students hurried to their classes, their conversations filled with laughter and the occasional grumble about upcoming exams. Jiang Han blended into the crowd, his steps purposeful but his mind preoccupied.

The Begging System's mission path to Level 2 weighed heavily on his thoughts. Each mission wasn't just a task—it was a lesson in humility, strategy, and perseverance. As much as he dreaded the system's challenges, he couldn't deny how much he had grown since it had entered his life.

"Three missions down, two to go," Jiang Han thought as he slid into his seat. "And they're only going to get harder."

During the first class of the day, the teacher distributed the results of their latest physics quiz. Jiang Han glanced at his paper, his stomach sinking as he saw the red mark at the top.

"78%," he muttered under his breath.

The score wasn't terrible, but it wasn't good enough for someone trying to climb to the top. He glanced across the room and saw Chen Xun, his latest rival, receiving his paper. Chen's confident smirk as he scanned his results said it all—another high score.

"Let me guess," Wang Jia Qi said, leaning over to peer at Jiang Han's paper. "Not as good as you'd hoped?"

Jiang Han sighed. "It's not just about the score. I need to be better—especially if I want to keep up with people like Chen Xun."

"Then do what you always do," Jia Qi said, patting him on the shoulder. "Figure out what went wrong, and fix it."

That afternoon, Jiang Han found himself in the library, surrounded by textbooks and notes. He reviewed his quiz, carefully analysing each mistake.

"This one was a calculation error," he muttered, jotting it down. "And here... I misunderstood the question. I need to read more carefully."

Hours passed as Jiang Han worked through his errors, cross-referencing his notes and textbooks. By the time the sun dipped below the horizon, he had a list of problem areas and a plan to tackle them.

But his efforts didn't stop there. Jiang Han sought out Sheng Hui Qi, the top science student in their class, for advice.

"You're quite serious about this, huh?" Hui Qi said as Jiang Han approached her.

"I need to improve," Jiang Han admitted. "You're one of the best at physics—can you help me figure out where I went wrong?"

Hui Qi raised an eyebrow, clearly surprised by his humility. "Alright. Let's see what you've got."

The two spent the next hour dissecting Jiang Han's quiz, with Hui Qi pointing out nuances he hadn't considered.

"You're overthinking some of these problems," she said. "Sometimes the simplest solution is the right one."

Jiang Han nodded, absorbing her advice like a sponge.

In the days that followed, Jiang Han devoted himself to practising physics problems, determined to turn his weaknesses into strengths. He worked through textbooks, solved past quizzes, and even downloaded advanced problems to challenge himself further.

But it wasn't all smooth sailing.

One evening, Jiang Han sat at his desk, staring at a particularly tricky problem. He had tried solving it three times, each attempt ending in frustration.

"Why isn't this working?" he muttered, running a hand through his hair.

The system chimed softly, offering its usual cryptic advice.

[Reflection: Growth comes from failure. Embrace it.]

Jiang Han sighed, leaning back in his chair. "Easy for you to say."

He closed his eyes, taking a deep breath to calm his mind. After a moment, he opened his eyes and tried again, this time approaching the problem from a different angle.

When the solution finally clicked, a sense of accomplishment washed over him.

"Failure isn't the end," Jiang Han thought. "It's just part of the process."

One day during lunch, Jiang Han noticed Chen Xun sitting alone in the courtyard, scribbling in a notebook. Curiosity piqued, and Jiang Han approached him.

"Always working, huh?" Jiang Han said, sitting down beside him.

Chen glanced up, his expression neutral. "And you're always observing. What do you want, Jiang Han?"

"I wanted to ask about something," Jiang Han said, undeterred by Chen's bluntness. "How do you keep pushing yourself? You don't seem like the type to settle for good enough."

Chen paused as if considering whether to answer. "I'm not interested in being average," he said finally. "Every challenge is an opportunity to prove my worth—not to others, but to myself."

Jiang Han nodded, filing the words away. "What about failure? How do you handle it?"

"Failure?" Chen's lips curled into a faint smirk. "It's just feedback. The only real failure is giving up."

The conversation left Jiang Han with a new perspective. Chen Xun wasn't just a rival; he was a reminder of the mindset needed to succeed.

The system didn't let Jiang Han bask in reflection for long.

[Mission Triggered: Convince three classmates to join a voluntary study session you're organising.]

Penalty for Failure: -40 System Points.]

Reward: Influence Skill (Elementary Level).]

Jiang Han frowned. "Convince three people? That's... not as easy as it sounds."

He spent the afternoon approaching his classmates one by one, using everything he had learned about persuasion.

"Come on, Derek," Jiang Han said, cornering his friend in the hallway. "You could use the extra practice for the maths test."

Derek snorted. "And here I thought you were my friend."

"I am. That's why I'm telling you the truth," Jiang Han said with a grin.

After some cajoling, Derek finally agreed. "Fine, but there'd better be snacks."

Next was Wang Jia Qi, who raised an eyebrow when Jiang Han pitched the idea to her.

"Why would I join your study session when I already have my routine?" she asked.

"Because I have some materials you might not have seen before," Jiang Han said, holding up a folder of advanced problems. "They're tough, but if we crack them together, we'll all benefit."

Jia Qi hesitated before nodding. "Alright, I'm in."

The third person was Hui Qi, who needed less convincing.

"You had me at 'study session,'" she said with a smirk.

[Mission Complete! Reward Unlocked: Influence Skill (Elementary Level).]

The study session turned out to be a success, with Jiang Han guiding the group through challenging problems and facilitating discussions. It wasn't just about the material—it was about learning together, supporting each other, and growing as a team.

As the session ended, Derek clapped Jiang Han on the shoulder. "You've got a knack for this, you know. Maybe you should be a teacher."

Jiang Han laughed. "Noted. But for now, I'll stick to being a student."

That evening, as Jiang Han sat by his window, the system chimed again.

[System Notification: Host Progressing Towards Level 2 Activation.]

Prerequisite Missions Completed: 4/5.]

Reflection: The art of begging isn't just about asking—it's about inspiring, persuading, and leading others towards a common goal.]

Jiang Han smiled, his confidence growing with each challenge. The path to Level 2 wasn't just about mastering skills—it was about mastering himself.

"Almost there," he thought, determination gleaming in his eyes. "One more mission to go."
