Chapter 265: No Axe For You
"You know, sometimes you must spend some time to think about yourself. Ask yourself what makes you happy and some day, you'll get to that answer." Keith said as he looked up at the half moon.
"Also, once you do arrive at the answer and need anything, then you can just come and find me. But until then, I guess we'll have to fight each other…"
Barou nodded, "I hope that I can… someday for sure. Are you leaving now?" he asked as he turned to look at Keith who had just stood back up from the ground.
"Yeah, I've got some things to do."
"Can I keep this? I mean, I can pay you if you want." Barou said as he grabbed the sack filled with chips.
Keith nodded, "Sure, come to me if you need more. I'll be staying in the capital until the war starts. Just go and ask Mathew and he'll tell you where to find me…. Oh and, do mention that you're simply looking to buy potato chips.
Actually, no. Just ask one of your chefs to make it for you. If they figure out the method I mean."
"Huh? Isn't this some sort of secret method or something?" Barou asked as he grabbed a chip and munched on it.
Keith shrugged, "I mean, not really. If you can replicate it, then feel free to do so. I'm not going to monopolize a great snack. Though, I use a mix of multiple spices and ingredients to enhance the flavor, but you should still be able to make the salted version without too much difficulty.
Just cut the potatoes into extremely thin slices and then fry them in hot oil. That's basically it, really simple and straight forward. Once you take the chips out of the oil, sprinkle some salt and toss them around in a bowl and yeah, that's it. You're good to go.
Oh yeah, make sure the chips are hot when you sprinkle salt. If they're cold, then the salt won't stick as well. Just tell this to your chefs and they should be able to make it for you."
Keith then began to walk towards the direction of the palace gates as he waved his hand, "I'll take my leave then."
"Bye byee! Hey! Let's fight someday!" Barou shouted, which prompted Keith to stop walking before he turned around.
He stared at Barou for a second before nodding, "Why wait, Barou. Let's do it. Right fucking-" he said and dashed towards the first prince as his hands turned bright red, "NOW!"
"Damn!" Barou exclaimed as he too rushed forward. The only thing in his mind, was to keep the chips safe from their fight.
Keith sent a fist flying forward, but despite Barou's huge size, the guy was extremely agile. In fact, as Keith saw Barou's large body move to the left to dodge his punch, he could tell that the man in front of him was way faster.
"Wow, you're pretty hasty…" Barou commented as he sent a punch flying towards Keith who stood in place instead of moving.
One strong punch and Keith buckled down on the ground, breathless as his abs contracted in pain.
'Ugh, fuck. I'm not going to test his punching strength ever again…' Keith thought as he decreased his sensitivity to pain by a bit while the minor, invisible damage healed due to his divine regeneration that carried over to him from Fabian's second awakening.
The rate of healing was slower than before, but it did not consume any of his mental energy.
Keith jumped up and felt a sharp pain on the top of his head, but he grinned as this was the sign that his headbutt had connected.
It was only after half a second when he looked up to see Barou's elbow instead of his chin.
"What kind of fighting style even is that?" Barou asked as he sent another fist flying towards Keith, but this time, Keith dodged it effortlessly.
"A fighting style of a random bozo who doesn't play by the rules." Keith said as his clawed at Barou's sensitive area before stopping only an inch away from the precious jewels.
Keith immediately took a few steps backwards and ended it with a summersault, 'That attack is only supposed to be used on fucked up people. I should think while I fight… otherwise my instinctual ways will cause some… unrepairable damage.'
Not wanting to use his despicable way of fighting, Keith took a deep breath and summoned his sword. As one of the weapons in the war god's inheritance, it was undoubtedly an extremely great sword.
At least according to the legends but this one was amplified by Vincent's awakened ability, which gave it he power to get extremely hot and to emit flames.
Even though Keith could use these, he decided not to. The sharp steel blade was pointed at Barou as he scratched his head with a sheepish grin on his face.
"Um, I left my axe there. Let me grab it…" he said, but didn't move an inch.
Keith heard this and relaxed his muscles slightly before nodding, "Sure." he said and brought his sword down before stabbing it slightly into the ground.
"Thanks." Barou said as he rushed over to get his axe which was pretty close to the sack of chips and once it was in his hand, Keith suddenly felt goosebumps. His pinky twitched a few times as he silently watched Barou turn around with the axe in his hand.
Barou looked at Keith with a wide grin on his face, "Hey, are we going to actually fight seriously? I mean, I want to… but I'll stop if I feel like it's getting too dangerous. I don't really want to get into a small spar since I kinda do it everyday. I want something even more…"
"Just come at me, Barou. You talk too much." Keith said and rushed forward once again and this time, he went full force. His sword moved extremely quick and also in a very confusing way.
Not knowing where the sword might strike, Barou simply made the easy decision to run. And unfortunately for Keith, he had no way of catching up to Barou with just his physical capabilities alone.
"Welp. You forced my hand." Keith muttered as he used his newest awakened ability, the Ethereal Phychokinesis.
A bunch of rings with a diameter of two meters appeared out of thin air and this prompted Barou to stop as he recognised this awakened ability.
"Wait, we're under attack!" he screamed and raised his hand towards Keith, but Keith didn't stop.
"No, you are." Keith said as he stopped and raised his hand in front of him and clenched his fist..
Four rings flew towards Barou extremely quick and seeing this, the first prince realised something very important. It wasn't Gerald who was trying to launch a sneak attack, but Keith who somehow had an ability similar to Gerald's.
Even before his brain processed all of this information, he subconsciously swung his battle axe at the rings. The simple swing cut into the rings that were about to tighten around him.
Both Keith and Barou felt like the time had suddenly stopped for them, but then the rings that were cut, suddenly broke into pieces as the sound of glass shattering entered their ears.
'Well, these things are pretty durable but their weakness is that once they take damage, they break like fucking glass…' Keith thought as he dashed towards Barou once again, fully intending to go on an offensive but this time, Barou did not run.
Instead, he rushed forward just like Keith and even though both of them were pretty far away from each other, he swung his axe horizontally.
Or at least, that was what it looked like at first.
But in reality, Barou had just thrown his axe and Keith was caught off guard as he was rushing straight forward. Even then, Keith continued forward and jumped up into the air to dodge the spinning axe.
Multiple translucent platforms appeared mid-air and Keith used them to continue his charge while maintaining his momentum.
"You get stronger as time passes, don't you? That means!!" Keith roared as he jumped high up into the air and made a platform 45 degrees to the ground before he used it to propel himself downwards towards Barou.
"That means that you're weak at the early stages of a fight!" he said as he stabbed his sword toward the first prince, who grinned and took a step to the right, dodging the sword effortlessly.
Keith expected this and twirled his body mid-air to land on his legs, but he did not let go of the opportunity and slashed his sword at Barou, cutting into his arm.
The slash drew blood, but the cut wasn't deep enough.
"Say hello to the axe." Barou said cheekily, but Keith bent backwards as the spinning axe flew towards him from his side.
The axe flew past him, but Barou took this chance to make distance between the two of them and dashed towards his axe before catching it accurately.
He then turned around to face Keith, "I've fought multiple people and all the smart ones tried to end things early but… you know, I'm pretty strong even at the start. At least to hold my ground." he said and threw his axe once again before running towards Keith who was standing still.
"Yeah, I can tell." Keith said as he raised his hand up stared straight into Barou's eyes as the axe cut straight into his arm until it reached slightly above his elbow.
Keith grabbed it by the handle and pulled it out with a wide, crazy grin while the cut healed, "And now you don't have a weapon, Barou."
