Chapter 10: Prey in the Shadows
In the lavish office of the Purple Blossom shop, Ronnie, disguised as the suave "Edward," sat across from Feyre, who handled the Valir Sword with a mix of awe and greed, like it was a relic from a lost era.
"I want to sell this sword as soon as possible," Edward said, his deep voice steady as he watched her turn the blade over, her violet eyes gleaming with fascination.
Feyre glanced up, her massive breasts jiggling slightly as she leaned forward, her voice dripping with seduction. "Of course, Sir Edward." With a sultry smile, she added, "We'll make sure you leave satisfied."
She paused, then continued, "I can offer a thousand gold pieces for it." Her gaze stayed locked on him, intense and probing. "That's a generous price, you know."
Edward stayed quiet, his mind racing. His family's poverty made a thousand gold pieces sound like a fortune, but Platinum Points from the System Store were hard to come by. Powerful targets like Fay, easy to manipulate, were rare finds.
Feyre noticed his silence, a flicker of worry crossing her face. She couldn't let this chance slip—it was a lifeline for her struggling shop, a way to crush her rivals.
"There's another option for a better deal," she said, her tone enticing.
Edward's eyes flicked to her, catching the spark in her violet gaze. "In two weeks, we're holding an auction," she went on, cradling the sword. "Your sword would fetch a much higher price there—bidders will go wild for it."
Edward sat still, mulling it over.
'I got the sword for 250 Platinum Points from the System Store, and now they're offering a thousand gold pieces,' he thought, weighing every angle for maximum gain.
'I've heard auctions bring out lunatics who'll bid insane amounts just to snag a rare item.'
"Deal!" he said firmly, his decision lighting up Feyre's face, her body practically buzzing with excitement.
She closed the distance between them—too close—and extended her hand. "Pleasure doing business with you, Sir Edward."
Edward shook her hand, fighting to keep his eyes off her breasts, so close he could feel the warmth of her breath. He was certain Feyre was teasing him on purpose, her proximity a calculated move.
'Why not push my luck?' A wicked idea sparked. With a sly grin, he thought, 'Stellar Eyes.'
A System window flashed:
[Activating Stellar Eyes Skill]
[Danger! Danger!]
[Target possesses extremely high mental strength]
[Feyre Violet: Sorceress, Level 40]
The warning hit like a punch. Level 40? Ronnie's body stiffened, sweat beading on his skin. He'd forgotten this world was crawling with superhumans, and he was the weakling here—pathetically so. Panic clawed at him.
Feyre sensed a fleeting probe at her mind, gone in an instant, making her tense with suspicion.
Just then, a soft voice whispered from the corner of the office:
'This deal's massive.'
'I need to tell the White Blossom shop's boss ASAP.'
Edward spun toward the source, stunned to hear Kitty's thoughts. His Stellar Eyes had failed against Feyre's mental fortress but worked on Kitty, a mere shop clerk.
What floored him was the bombshell: Kitty was a spy for the rival White Blossom shop, masquerading as a loyal Purple Blossom employee.
[Secret Discovered: Kitty's Betrayal]
[Earned 50 Platinum Points]
System notifications lit up, sending a thrill through him. He hadn't realized Stellar Eyes could uncover secrets and earn points so effortlessly.
Ronnie, still cloaked as Edward, licked his lips, a predatory grin spreading. He'd snagged a new target. His gaze raked over Kitty's half-cat, half-human form, heat surging through his veins as he imagined his next move.
"Thanks, Miss Feyre," Edward said, flashing a smile at her as she eyed him warily. "I'll return in two weeks."
"Always welcome, Sir Edward," Feyre replied, gripping his hand tightly. "If you've got other business, I could invite you to dinner."
Heat flared in Edward's chest, but he forced an awkward grin. No way was he tangling with a woman forty times stronger than him. He bolted from the Purple Blossom shop.
Hours later, as night cloaked the city, Kitty slipped out of the shop, her shift over. She moved cautiously, glancing over her shoulder, her cat-like senses sharp. Unseen, Edward had been waiting for hours, tailing her for this exact moment.
Minutes later, she reached a shadowy, rat-infested alley. There, she met a man who looked like an ordinary clerk.
"Kitty, what's the scoop?" he asked.
"I've got huge news," Kitty said, her tail flicking with smug pride.
She spilled everything—Edward, the Valir Sword, and the auction plan. The man's eyes widened, grasping the stakes. As a White Blossom employee, he knew if word spread about their rival selling such a rare sword, their shop's reputation would tank while Purple Blossom's soared.
"Good. I'll report this to the boss," he said.
"Don't forget to vouch for me," Kitty pressed.
"Of course. You'll be well rewarded this time," the White Blossom clerk said calmly before melting into the darkness.
Kitty practically skipped with glee, oblivious that Ronnie had recorded the entire exchange with a Recording Crystal and his Mirror of Life skill.
On her way back, Kitty's sharp senses caught a presence trailing her. She navigated the dark alleys warily, as if luring her pursuer to a trap.
She stopped abruptly, her voice firm. "Show yourself!"
She glared into the shadows until a familiar figure emerged.
"Miss Kitty, why so jumpy? I was just trying to catch up, but you started sprinting," Edward said, stepping out with a dazzling smile.
Kitty froze, torn between relief and caution. "Sir Edward, do you live around here?"
He chuckled, his eyes cold as ice. "Nope. I was looking for you."
"Me? Why?" A knot of dread twisted in her gut.
"Because of this." He tossed her a Recording Crystal. "Check it out."
Kitty caught it, recognizing it instantly but unsure why he'd given it to her. She activated it, watching the contents. Her face contorted, growing grim with each second. When it ended, she crushed the crystal into sparkling shards, glaring at Edward with fierce caution.
"You think that's my only copy?" Edward laughed, making her heart sink. She knew nobles could afford these crystals like candy, and this Edward was clearly one.
"What's your plan?" she asked, voice tight. Her job was on the line—White Blossom's boss had given her one last chance to prove herself, or she'd be out.
"I don't care about White Blossom, Purple Blossom, or any flower shop," Edward said, his tone chilling. "I care about you."
"Let's find a quiet spot to talk business."
Danger radiated from his words. Kitty's claws shot out, ready to strike.
"Don't do anything dumb," Ronnie said, his smile sly. "I've hidden another crystal where Feyre can find it easily."
"And you know what I'm capable of, right?"
Terror gripped Kitty like a vice. If Edward was telling the truth, Feyre would uncover her betrayal, and that'd be the end. Who'd defy a level 40 sorceress for her? White Blossom would cut her loose the moment they heard Feyre was after her.
And this Edward was no weakling. She recalled his effortless swings with the heavy Valir Sword and his void magic in the office.
Overwhelmed by these truths, Kitty stood petrified. A calm voice sliced through her racing thoughts.
"Do what I want, and your life stays the same. You have my word."
Kitty looked up at Edward, his smile predatory, like a demon eyeing his meal. She had no choice. Sinking to her knees in defeat, she felt him approach until he stood over her, her head level with his crotch. He gazed down, grinning.
"Come on, let's find a good place to finish our chat."
Kitty glanced up, meeting Edward's hunter-like stare. In that moment, she realized she'd always been prey in this world. To survive, she'd have to play his game.
