God Level Farmer In Another World

Chapter 39: Chapter 39: The Old Beggar and Rosie

Ethan Blake was gasping for air under Alex's grip, his face turning red.

Alex's strength exceeded Ethan's expectations.

Staring in horror at Alex, Ethan struggled to speak:

"I... I know I owe the guild."

Alex sneered and released his grip, straightening up:

"You're smart enough not to bare your fangs at me."

Had Ethan dared to transform into his bull form and resist, Alex would have killed him without hesitation.

Alex appreciated Ethan's abilities.

But no matter how capable someone was, if they didn't obey, they were better off buried.

The guild needed useful mercenaries, not righteous security officers.

Alex came this time to gauge Ethan's attitude.

He wanted to see if Ethan's loyalty to the Security Bureau would prompt him to confront him.

It seemed now that Ethan wanted to live, that he still wanted to be the Security Captain.

Alex said:

"It's fine if you want to be an upright officer.

But you should remember your identity as a mercenary, or I won't hesitate to replace you as Security Captain."

With that, Alex left the private room.

Ethan opened a bottle of beer and downed it, his eyes filled with helplessness.

He was a grateful man, thankful to Alex for giving him a new life.

But he was also loyal to the Security Bureau, having sworn an oath under the sacred emblem.

Yet, there was undeniable friction between the Mercenary Guild and the Security Bureau.

Ethan had come to persuade Alex to rein in his reckless actions, but Alex's domineering attitude had forced him to give up.

This man was too overbearing.

Ethan wasn't afraid of Alex killing him; otherwise, he wouldn't have risked his life to meet him.

What scared him was that after his death, someone else would replace him as Security Captain.

He wasn't sure if that new Captain would protect the Security Bureau from the Mercenary Guild.

He also feared that the new Captain might be someone like Vincent, who would abuse power to oppress the people.

After all, he was just another fool who had crawled out of the slums.

By nightfall, Rosie stepped out of the mall carrying seven or eight bulging shopping bags.

Her appearance had drastically changed from before, no longer wrapped up tightly.

Now, she wore a tank top, short shorts, crystal high heels, revealing her slim waist and long legs.

The high number of heads turning to look at her made her feel a little embarrassed.

It was like living in a dream, the ugly duckling turning into a swan.

In the entire Mercenary Guild, Rosie was undoubtedly the most loyal to Alex.

Despite becoming a stunning beauty, she hadn't forgotten her roots in the slums. Aside from splurging on clothes, she was still quite frugal.

She headed toward a five-solar ramen shop.

"Miss, please be kind, I haven't eaten in three days."

Rosie turned around and saw a ragged old beggar, sitting weakly on the edge of the sidewalk.

The old beggar had lost an arm, and about seven or eight stray cats were gathered around him.

Without responding, Rosie crossed the street and entered the ramen shop.

The old beggar sighed, and one of the stray cats climbed onto his lap, meowing at him.

The old beggar gently petted the cat's head:

"Hang in there, little one. When that boy returns, we'll have something to eat."

After a while, the old beggar spotted Rosie running back from across the street, carrying a bowl of ramen.

In disbelief, he watched as Rosie squatted in front of him, opened the plastic container, and lifted a bite of ramen to his mouth.

Starving, the old beggar gulped down the food quickly, burning his mouth in the process.

Rosie, seeing this, apologized and blew on the ramen to cool it before offering it to him again.

Feeling a bit embarrassed, the old beggar said:

"Miss, just place it on my lap, I can feed myself."

Rosie placed the bowl of ramen on the old beggar's lap. He used his single arm to pick up some noodles and eat, then took another portion and placed it on the ground.

The stray cats raised their tails and began eating the noodles alongside the old beggar.

Rosie, puzzled, asked:

"You're not even full yourself, so why are you feeding the stray cats?"

The old beggar smiled and replied:

"I may be a beggar, but my cats aren't strays.

Thank you, miss. Without you, I would've gone hungry along with my cats tonight."

Rosie waved her hand and went back into the ramen shop.

Not long after, a scruffy-looking young man walked up to the old beggar, carrying a bag of buns and half a roasted chicken. He proudly announced:

"Master, I brought food back! Eh? Where did you get the ramen?"

The old beggar glared at him and scolded:

"Are you trying to starve your master? Lucky for me, a kind young lady brought me some food!"

The young man burst out laughing:

"Master, have you gone crazy thinking about women? A beautiful woman would give food to an old beggar like you?!"

The old beggar retorted:

"She even fed me!"

The young man shook his head with a smile and sat next to the old beggar, biting into a bun.

The old beggar pointed across the street and said: "Look, that's her."

Following the old beggar's gaze, the young man looked over, and his eyes widened. He forgot to chew the bun in his mouth.

She was stunning—he had never seen such a beautiful girl before.

Rosie glanced around at the cars, then jogged over to the old beggar and handed him another bowl of ramen: "I was afraid you and your cats wouldn't have enough to eat."

The more the old beggar looked at Rosie, the more he liked her. Smiling warmly, he said:

"Thank you, young lady, but my useless apprentice brought me some food. You haven't eaten yourself, have you?"

Rosie glanced at the young beggar, who had been staring at her non-stop, and frowned in disgust.

She pulled a few hundred solars from her pocket, slipped them into the old beggar's hand, and playfully said: "Use it to buy cat food."

With that, she grabbed her ramen and headed toward Base Cafe.

The young man, watching Rosie's swaying figure as she walked away, jumped up like a monkey: "Master, I really like this girl! She's kind-hearted! I'm dying here!"

The old beggar sneered: "Look at yourself. Do you think a girl like her would be interested in you?"

The young man protested: "What's wrong with me? I've almost mastered everything you taught me! How am I not good enough for her?"

The old beggar's face turned serious: "Stop showing off, or you'll end up losing an arm like me!"

The young man quickly agreed:

"Okay, Master! I'll go get you some wine!"

He got up and followed Rosie.

The young man's movements were stealthy, and Rosie had no idea she was being followed.

By the time she reached Base Cafe, it was already late, and the doors were locked.

Rosie took out a key, unlocked the door, and went inside Old Oak Café.

Excited, the young beggar returned to the old beggar's side: "Hehehe, I found out where she lives! From now on, I'll follow her every day and be her guardian knight!"

The old beggar cursed angrily:

"I knew you were up to no good! Let me tell you, if you dare disturb that girl's life, I'll personally cripple you!"

The young man handed the old beggar a bottle of liquor, grinning as he said:

"Relax, relax, I won't hurt her.

Hehe, she lives quite far from here. Tomorrow morning, I'll head over to Old Oak Café to wait for her."

The old beggar spat out his wine in shock, his eyes bulging:

"What did you just say? Where did you say that girl lives?"

The young man scratched his head: "Old Oak Café. She's probably a waitress there."

The old beggar grabbed the young man by the collar, staring at him intensely. The young man could clearly see fear in the old beggar's eyes.

"No, stay away from that cursed place! You're never to see that girl again!"
