God Ash: Remnants of the fallen.

Chapter 995: Restless (2).

Jenny sighed then stood up from the boulder she was seated on,

"That means it's our turn to handle things here."

They were a little far away from where Gwendolyn was docked.

The coastline of the continent of Aderra had mutated into a diverse biome filled with all sorts of grotesque horrors and aberrations.

Twisted fiends that could swim in the waters and crawl on land. The terrifying {Gulls of the Styx} that roamed the skies with their nearly insatiable hunger for human flesh and blood.

Even worse, the terrain was even more unforgiving than the beasts. There were no flesh-eating fauna, or shifting pits of sand that could swallow a man whole. Or other strange things of similar manner.

Instead, the strange rocks scattered across the beach were like sponges that soaked up all the blood spilt on their surfaces. These strange rocks developed unique properties, with a bunch of them becoming terrifying booby traps for any soul unfortunate enough to come into contact with them.

With so many ways to be killed, it was no wonder the air of terror and fear hung heavy.

Luckily, terror and despair had become the norm. Not many were bothered by it anymore.

Li sighed then scratched his head.

Jenny turned towards him,

"Our target this time is an area I suspect to be teeming with the {Bubonic Mimics}."

The {Bubonic Mimics} were creatures born from the rocks scattered across the coast that had been degraded and changed by the Devilish Miasma.

They existed in all shapes and sizes, but they were mostly made of the blood soaked rocks.

Most of them were mere annoyances that weren't very powerful individually.

However, they were a few that hit very hard when unsuspecting hunters and even mutant creatures least expected it.

A slumbering death trap, they were, in a sense.

To decrease the risk of such a think happened, hubs of the malignant things found had to be wiped out.

Li's expression changed,

"Another one? That's like the tenth one this week."

Jenny nodded and frowned,

"Most of them seem to be migrating from further inland. If I had to guess, it might be due to the rising Devil population."

Li grimaced as his eyes narrowed,

"That is definitely not a good sign, is it."

Jenny shook her head,

"I and Ignis will be meeting up with Cain soon. But for now, we will have to handle this as usual."

Li chuckled as he gently rubbed his knuckles,

"At the end of the day, it all comes down to these, huh. Do we prepare a team, or are we going on our own?"

Jenny thought about it silently for a few seconds, then shook her head,

"I believe this is something we can handle on our own. We are already short on manpower as is."

Li chuckled, "I was going to say the same thing myself."

Jenny chuckled and said,

"Then, let's go."

She closed her eyes and muttered a chant under her breath.

A magic circle appeared above them.

From it, an enormous crimson-coloured stingray shot out.

It had several eye-catching runes on its large wings as it soared through the air, eventually settling down right beside her.

Giving it a soft pat on its head, Jenny leapt up and landed on its back smoothly.

She turned to Li, who had an uncomfortable expression on his face.

"What are you waiting for?"

Li massaged his temples and let out a groan,

"I'll never get used to this thing. It's skin is always so moist and gross."

Jenny raised a brow,

"Really? I think Leo is really cool."

The enormous Mutant Stingray flapped its fleshy wings happily.

Li's expression fell even further as he spat,

"This thing is definitely not cute."

"Just get on."

Left with no other choice, Li leapt into the air and landed on the back of the contracted Mutant Beast firmly in his feet.

Leo was a {Blood Skyray} Jenny had happened to come about when it was just a few days old. Unlike older Mutant Beasts, the younger ones are more impressionable even though they possessed just as much intelligence as the older ones.

They had the mind of a child.

Because of this, forming [Body and Soul] contracts with them was far easier.

Thanks to this, more and more hunters had begun to domesticate their own Mutant Beasts that could aid them in battle and otherwise.

Even better, under the care of their masters, the contracted beasts could even grow to surpass their natural limits with the aid of every resource funneled into them, allowing them to grow alongside their masters.

The {Blood Skyray} soared through the sky, its fleshy wings beating hard.

With impeccable balance, Li stood on the back of the enormous creature, his narrowed eyes calmly gazing down on the world.

The lands were fast, but the dark ocean was even moreso.

An endless blanket of darkness, like the palm of a dark god stretched out endlessly as far as his eyes could see.

The changes were evident to say the least. Even a blind man would be able to see them.

Despite having fallen into something that resembled a routine, he could tell that a great upset was coming soon.

The humans were changing.

The beasts were evolving.

The sky, the land and the sea were all continuously expanding and morphing without any end to the madness in sight.

Their world was becoming restless.

Li let out a sigh.

Jenny tilted her head a bit to glance at him,

"What's got ou so down in the dumps?"

Li snapped back to reality and quickly threw on a bright grin,

"It's nothing. I was just thinking about how everything seems so small from way up."

Jenny turned back around. Her hand gently patted the head of the {Blood Skyray},

"It really is wonderful, isn't it?"

The Mutant Beast made a strange reverberating sound from whatever speech organs it possessed.

Li strangled the urge to recoil at it, but Jenny didn't seem to mind.

He let a a wry chuckle,

"Indeed it is."
