Chapter 218 Collective Hunting? No, They’re Delivering Supplies
The mountains, stained with an ink-like color, split this vast Desert Zone into two regions, East and West.
The desert in the eastern section is highly undulating, having been drastically altered following earthquakes and acid rain disasters.
Low valleys and cracks torn open by earthquakes are now covered with bone-corrosive acid rain, forming ponds or small lakes.
On the tops of towering slopes and hills, there are now hundreds of refugee villages of various sizes.
The refugee villages are far apart from each other, with no interaction between them, and no matter which village you look at, it is surrounded by one or two layers of stone or wooden walls, declaring the sovereignty of the land like a banner, inviolable.
Around each shelter, there are some dispatched "Hunters."
They are the lifeline of the entire shelter and the hope sent out.
The mutant creatures inhabiting this desert are the primary source of food for humans and are the most important supply.
Certainly, if lucky, when hunting some mutant creatures, one might also obtain treasure chests of certain quality.
And these treasure chests will be brought back to the shelter and opened to acquire certain amounts of resources or items.
These hunters hunt daily without interference; even when encountering each other, there's hardly any exchange. They seem to follow some ancient and mysterious ancestral tradition, focusing solely on survival, never engaging in so-called conflicts.
Hunters from some shelters on the desert occasionally discover a massive convoy resembling a long snake gathered together, moving forward without pause.
This convoy has hundreds of people, each armed, and though not orderly, it resembles a legion aiming to conquer and capture land!
The hunters, panic-stricken, sprint back, reporting what they saw to the village chief of the village, and transmit photos of this horrifying number of legion to the group, and even the World Channel.
Nearby refugee villages immediately prepared for emergency defenses, hunters climbed the walls, armed with bows and arrows, nervously looking into the distance, hoping this massive legion wouldn't suddenly change course toward their village!
In the group and World Channel, this convoy quickly became the focus of discussion: why are they assembled, and where are they heading?
"I say, those of you in the desert, why do you have so many issues? We in the forest zone have no such troubles, you've giant creatures and that badass Lin Yue, and now a massive army emerges, what's going on?"
"Who knows, I don't."
"Haha, indeed, we have no issues in the wetland zone, I'm grabbing roasted meat to watch the show, previously someone—don't just post photos, share some videos!"
"Where are they going? Doesn't look like a migration, and no disaster alerts have been issued, why are these people in a hurry?"
"I think it might be for collective hunting…right, probably going after giant creatures?"
"The only giant creature in the desert has already been taken down by Lin Yue; compared to other places, now the desert is the safest place."
"Then where are they heading, won't they attack Lin Yue? Hahaha."
"Your joke is quite funny, attacking a survivor with hundreds of men—pretty likely, I think 200-300 could flatten Lin Yue's rank 1 shelter, judging by the pictures, this convoy might have 400-500 people; even that legendary Lin Yue might not withstand."
"Why speak as if Lin Yue is weak, he's super strong, mind you."
"Who can say for sure they're targeting Lin Yue directly, but if true, we might witness the fall of the world's top rank."
…
Xing Lingfeng watched the series of photos circulating on the World Channel and in the group, frowning.
He looked at the regional map on the system panel and found a large gray light slowly moving across a region he had explored.
Moving to a large map hung on the wall, this map was pieced together from regional map fragments collected by nearly a hundred people and was completed by abundant fragments obtained from treasure chests; though not complete, it illustrated nearly half the Desert's East and West area.
He pointed at the position where the gray dots just traveled through, then glanced downward.
A position was quite conspicuous, marked by a big red dot.
The discussion on the World Channel remained intense. The o@r@i*g-i!n*a+l s!ou.r+ce is M|$V#|&[email protected]#R..
Xing Lingfeng saw a possibility he hadn't wanted to see.
If it's true...no, it should be true.
In this desert, if one were to find a target worth a 300-400 person collective expedition, there aren't many.
Giant creatures have been killed.
Large numbers of mutant creatures? Such creatures are abundant everywhere.
Refugee Village? Why not attack those passing by? A few hundred attackers could conquer a village easily.
Xing Lingfeng looked at the friend list, focusing on the name he had pinned at the top.
Apart from this person, what else in the desert could draw the collective effort of 300-400 to deal with?
"Feng Peng, You Siyuan, Huo Yu, come over."
The three hunters had just returned from outside, bringing several treasure chests along with quite a few spoils, they hadn't reported their success yet but found their leader looking terribly grim.
"Boss, what's up, cheer up, nothing's that bad." You Siyuan grinned, trying to lighten the mood.
But he found the leader's face now even gloomier.
Feng Peng and Huo Yu exchanged glances, quickly checked the World Channel; generally, if anything major occurred, it'd certainly reflect there.
And shortly after, understanding dawned as they saw what the topic was about.
"Brother Xing, is that hundreds-person convoy targeting us?" Feng Peng immediately grew tense, Huo Yu nodded, readying the steel guns they just placed into Storage Space.
Xing Lingfeng shook his head.
This left the three puzzled, exchanging confused looks.
What are those hundreds of people actually up to?
"Currently these people are in this direction; they've pushed out of East District, crossed the canyon, reaching the West District zone of the desert. Their general route is like this," Xing Lingfeng said, gesturing over the incomplete large map.
The three remained unclear, You Siyuan pondered aloud: "Aren't they still heading for us?"
Xing Lingfeng shook his head: "Our shelter is in this valley; if they intended to come, they would've turned already, why head that way instead? They're heading here."
You Siyuan suddenly smacked his forehead: "Damn! Lin Yue's shelter! That's why!"
Huo Yu also understood why Xing Lingfeng showed such an expression.
Lin Yue's shelter is about to be attacked by this group of hundreds?
