Chapter 767: Wealthy Survivors
There was no need to hype the item at all.
Everyone knew how important this item was. Even if they couldn't use it, they could give it to their best talents within their clan, or those with unique Talents could help the clan greatly if their Talent's ability had improved...
In Shane's case, he could think of a few people who would probably need this item…
One of them would be Tundra, who only had an Epic-Grade Terrorist Talent.
Despite only having an Epic Grade Talent, he could easily contend against those with Legendary Talents as long as he had enough preparations with his bombs.
As a matter of fact, if Shane were not careful, he could also fall when fighting against such a figure who had a total of five bomb types.
'If he gets this, he'd probably get more bombs, right?' He mused.
Seeing that everyone looked tempted by the first item, the auctioneer continued.
"This crystal can advance one's natural Talent to the next tier. From Common to Uncommon… Uncommon to Rare… Rare to Exceptional… Exceptional to Master… Master to Epic… and Epic to Legendary."
She paused, letting the words sink into every Survivor's bones. It was just like what they thought.
"But it does not end there."
Everyone went silent, curious about what she was about to say.
"If a Legendary Talent user decided to use this crystal, then the crystal will evolve it further, improving and reshaping it beyond its current boundaries. In short, even Legendary Talents could be enhanced even more."
Just like that, the value of the item increased even more.
Since many of them had Legendary Talent already, improving it even more would surely be a game-changer.
Some auras flared unconsciously before being forced back under control.
Even Lesley's crimson mask tilted slightly while Travis's hand tightened on his armrest.
This was no ordinary treasure.
The woman lifted a hand and the crystal floated around for everyone to see.
"The starting bid…" she announced, "is ten thousand points."
This was an incredibly expensive item, but they all found it reasonable since they all had at least 300,000 points.
It wouldn't be surprising if this item reaches a hundred thousand points.
Just like that, the bidding war began.
The auctioneer's words barely finished before the first response came.
"Eleven thousand."
A calm male voice started the bid. He wasn't shouting as he was simply talking to the Bidding Device that they had just obtained.
It would immediately register, and the Auctioneer would be notified.
"Fifteen thousand."
Another voice followed and it came from Travis.
Then, the numbers began to climb.
"Twenty thousand."
"Twenty-two."
"Twenty-eight."
"Thirty."
It was a completely different auction as no one raised their hands, no one shouted over the other. The devices absorbed the spoken commands…
In this chamber of elite Survivors, there was no need for theatrics. The rising points would speak for them.
Shane leaned back in his chair, watching the numbers increase through the device…
The bids came steadily as everyone wanted to obtain this precious item.
"Forty."
"Forty-five."
"Fifty."
The threshold of fifty thousand fell in mere moments, and still the voices didn't slow.
Shane then checked at those people who were bidding…
'Well, everyone would benefit from this item.' Shane mused but he wasn't too inclined to obtain it. After all, he was already strong as an individual.
What he needed was other external help he could get, since he knew from his previous Apocalypses that to become an Apocalypse Ender, he could not be alone.
"Sixty thousand."
"Sixty-two."
"Sixty-five."
"Seventy."
Shane shook his head after hearing this.
"It's too slow… We should make this fast."
As he said this, he decided to up the price to ensure that only those truly interested would start bidding.
"Hundred ten thousand points."
Shane whispered to his device, but it was easily heard by the others.
With their current level and Perception Stat, they wouldn't miss that at all. Several heads turned in his direction, but no one spoke.
In any case, Shane didn't mind it as he watched the device glowed faintly, confirming his bid. The auctioneer's red lips curled slightly, as if amused.
"Hundred ten thousand points. Accepted."
Just like that, the number of bidders lessened.
"One hundred and fifteen…"
"One hundred and twenty…"
"One hundred and thirty…"
The numbers surged higher still, hitting the ceiling most expected.
"One fifty."
"One sixty."
Shane finally noticed where hesitation finally crept into the bids.
'This should be their limit…'
And then—
"One hundred and eighty thousand."
The voice said to his device. Shane's gaze turned across the chamber. Though masked and cloaked, he knew the man too well and felt helpless.
Diana…
It wasn't surprising, not when he thought about it. Diana had always been managing the Silver Mine and Spirit Stone Vein, the wealth flowing under her control like rivers…
Even if she does some sort of corruption to get more wealth, Shane knew that she was still loyal to him anyway.
So, if anyone had the capital to throw down casually at an Apex Auction, it would be his little sister.
A faint laugh escaped him…
'She's as bold as ever… She probably has a million points as well.'
The silence that followed told everyone else that the crystal had been decided. No further bids came.
Everyone still had a lot of points in their collection, but spending half of it or a huge chunk of it on the first item? They felt that it was not necessary.
After all, it was only the first item, and there are more left.
Furthermore, they also planned to attend the Grand Auction Hall later, and they had items they wanted to obtain there as well.
Apparently, some merchants in the Market Bazaar would give clues about the items to be sold in the Grand Auction Hall.
This information could only be obtained if you get to the good side of those merchants.
With that in consideration, many of them do not want to spend all their savings on this event.
The auctioneer raised her hand elegantly.
"One hundred and eighty thousand… Final call."
She then looked around to confirm that no one was willing to fight anymore before she struck the gavel upon her podium.
"Sold."
Just like that, the item was removed from the stage, and it could be inspected by Diana herself before confirming her payment. It could be done right now, but she decided to do it later after the event since she planned to continue participating.
Shane gently nodded as he liked Diana's decisiveness. If it was going to anyone, at least it went to her.
The Auctioneer didn't pause for long. She simply smiled and continued.
"Next item."
Just like that, the next item appeared in the platform with a pulse of light…
The next item was actually a set of twelve vials, lined neatly in a case. The liquid within each one had a golden glow.
"A set of twelve vials of Super Human Serum," she declared. "For strengthening the body beyond its natural limits. Muscles, reflexes, endurance… Every aspect pushed to its pinnacle. The set is indivisible. All twelve vials, together."
Unlike the Talent Crystal, this was more practical, more immediate—something an entire team could benefit from at once.
The bidding surged quickly, each voice cutting through the chamber.
"Twenty thousand."
"Thirty."
"Forty-five."
"Sixty."
The numbers jumped without pause as the bidding started.
However, Shane and most members of his clan remained still, unmoved by the serum...
Well, the reason was obvious.
'We already have the Super Soldier Serums… and others stronger still. This isn't necessary.'
He glanced toward Travis, Lesley, Lancelot—none of them spoke. They, too, likely had their own sources of making their own powerful soldiers.
This was especially true for Travis, who literally had the Dragon's Blood. Instead of turning his people into Super Human, they might as well turn into his Dragonkin.
There was also Natalie, the Clan Leader of the New Haven Clan. She had someone on her side, known as the Archbishop, who could transform ordinary Survivors into priests, healers, or bishops.
Super Human Serum may be a great item, but none of them would spend their precious points on something that was only slightly beneficial.
Finally, the bidding slowed, then ceased.
"One hundred and five thousand… Sold."
It was simply too expensive.
However, Shane also realized why they probably want to spend that much…
'Is it for the unknown reward?' Shane mused as he recalled the system's notification.
[ Additional Perks:
Priority Acquisition Rights: Winners will have a 5-minute private inspection of the item before confirming payment.
Apex Chamber Benefits: Five Golden Treasure Chests will be given to all qualified Survivors. Anyone who used more than 200,000 points and the one who spent the most points in the Chamber will receive a separate gift from the Administrator.
… ]
The five Golden Treasure Chests were already inside their Inventory after they got qualified.
However, the separate gift from the Administrator might bring them a good surprise.
"I guess I have to spend at least that much later on…" Shane muttered.
