Chapter 445: Becoming the Strongest Survivor
Meanwhile, as Shane was trying to complete the foundation of his Silver Mine Camp before he left for Sector 20, the other top-ranking Survivors were also doing their tasks to strengthen themselves.
Asad, known as the Raven Guard in the rankings, stood atop the watchtower of his fortress in the desert. The golden sands stretched endlessly around him, and he felt proud of being the strongest in this zone.
His dark, flowing robes swayed lightly in the dry wind… His Dark Magician Set was already tier 5 and this added to the strange aura around him.
Anyway, he wasn't focused on the scenery in front of him. Instead, his eyes examined the ancient map spread on the table before him. The map was aged and worn but detailed enough to mark a crucial location in an area he suspected to be Sector 20. It was a distant area that Asad and many other Survivors like him had never explored.
A note scribbled on the map revealed the existence of an item capable of producing a Zombie Virus Vaccine—a tool that could shift the tide of the apocalypse and bring him immense recognition in the Survivor Rankings.
'I'm sure that the system will reward if I really find this thing.' He mused.
But Sector 20 was far, dangerously so, beyond the boundaries of his current territory. The foundation he built up here with v plenty of money and time would just be wasted if he tried moving.
Furthermore, moving his entire fortress and its intricate network of undead defenses seemed nearly impossible without drawing significant attention, especially from the remaining hostile forces.
After all, he couldn't just cancel the summoning of the thousand Undead Creatures he currently has. If he did that, he would have to redo everything, and it would take a lot of time with his limited Spirit Points.
Well, with the Tome of the Dead that he obtained after the third Zombie Wave, he was able to control an unlimited amount of Undead Creatures. However, since he doesn't have unlimited Spirit Points, the undead army that he had was still not a huge one.
Furthermore, even if he doesn't have a limit with the Undead Creatures under his control, his mind is incapable of controlling all of them at once.
As Asad mulled over his options, a scout undead—a raven made of skeletal fragments and blue flames, returned to him with an urgent message.
"Master," the bird rasped, its spectral voice echoing faintly in his mind.
"Hostiles approach. Seven Necromancers. They bear their armies of death."
Asad's eyes narrowed. Hostile Necromancers in his desert?
Unacceptable.
'The hidden Wild Shelters are finally on the move.' Asad thought.
He actually knew that there were Wild Shelter around since he was able to scout other Skeletons or Ghouls that he didn't own killing Zombies. However, he couldn't find their bases, as they were probably hidden beneath the sand.
Looking for their base was basically impossible unless he risked getting his base's defenses thinned. It was something he couldn't do as he relied on his massive army to defeat any intruders.
Thankfully, these Necromancers seemed to have realized how powerful he was already and gathered together in hopes of eliminating him. However, that was also what he was waiting for.
"Prepare the defenses," Asad commanded as a smile appeared on his lips.
It was perfect timing…
"These Necromancers would be the answer to my problem." Asad whispered.
Below, his fortress sprang to life—or, rather, unlife.
Undead workers dropped their tools, shambling into position. Blacksmiths left their forges to reinforce the gates with hastily crafted barriers. Skeleton archers took up defensive positions along the ramparts, and hulking flesh golems moved to the front lines, awaiting orders.
"There's really seven of them, huh…" Asad muttered as he looked outside.
The seven Necromancers emerged over the dunes. Each of them was flanked by their own undead armies. Their forces included Bone Behemoths, massive skeletons bound with cursed iron…
There were also Plague Hounds. They were quite similar to the Zombie Wolves. They were rotting, canine-shaped undead dripping with toxic green sludge.
Aside from that, they also have Ghoul Swarms. They are probably the most troublesome undead because of their agility.
Lastly, the Shadow Wraiths. They were dark, incorporeal entities that flickered in and out of sight. They were extremely scary against other Survivors, but in his opinion, these Shadow Wraiths were the easiest ones to deal with.
'I guess this will be a lot easier than I thought…' Asad thought.
The enemy Necromancers stood behind their forces, shrouded in dark cloaks and wielding glowing staves.
One of them, a tall woman with an aura of searing malice, stepped forward. Continue your journey on empire
"Asad…" she called mockingly. "You've grown too comfortable in your fortress. The time has come for you to fall. You're a disgrace among Necromancers!"
To Asad's surprise, these Necromancers were aware of his name. Furthermore, the language was something he had no idea about but he could actually understand them.
"I've no idea how you know my name, but I'll show you that I'm not a disgrace! I'm the strongest Necromancer!
Asad then raised a hand, and the air around him grew colder.
"You have made a grave mistake coming here," he replied. His voice wasn't loud, but the weight behind it carried frightening intent.
As soon as the battle started, the desert erupted into chaos as the two armies clashed.
Asad unleashed his army, which he called the Ebon Legions, a force of undead that could even withstand six hordes of the Zombie Wave. Aside from the normal Skeleton Warriors, Raven Familiars and others, he had some unique undead creatures within the Legion.
These undead creatures were Shadow Stalkers. They were skeleton assassins cloaked in dark energy, striking with bone daggers.
They were supported by Blight Hulks. They were massive undead amalgamations, stitched together from dozens of corpses, resistant to both magic and physical attacks. These Hulks were his answer whenever he saw Tyrant Zombies or Zombies with similar levels of physical strength.
Then, with the reward he obtained in the previous Boss Raid Event, he could now use Bone Spires. They were stationary skeletal constructs that fired shards of bone-like artillery.
Finally, he summoned Soulbound Phantoms. They were ethereal warriors, capable of phasing through enemies to attack their souls directly. They were his answers to his enemies's Shadow Wraiths!
Just one Soulbound Phantom could actually kill hundreds of Shadow Wraiths… With dozens of them around, those Shadow Wraiths would have to flee if they wanted to last longer!
"Come!" Asad shouted… These seven necromancers were certainly the last enemies he had to control the desert fully.
He wanted to become the king of this land, and they were the last obstacles!
Asad watched as Plague Hounds rushed forward. Their toxic sludge seemed really overwhelming as they started melting the first line of his skeletal warriors. In response, Asad commanded his Shadow Stalkers to intercept them…
Then, the enemy's Bone Behemoths smashed through barricades, but Asad's Blight Hulks met them in brutal melee combat… With these creatures fighting, the surroundings started trembling as each blow had a force that could shake the ground.
At the same time, the enemy necromancers realized the strength of Asad's army and ordered their Shadow Wraiths to flank Asad… However, his Soulbound Phantoms intercepted them mid-air, killing dozens of them in the blink of an eye.
High above, Asad's Raven Familiars circled, feeding him real-time information about the battlefield.
'This is easy…' He thought…
With precise commands, he shifted his forces, exploiting weaknesses in the enemy's strategy.
After observing for a while, Asad finally stepped into the fray himself, wielding his Necrotic Lance, a weapon forged from the bones of a cursed dragon…
With every strike, it drained energy from the enemy and reinforced his Spiritual Force!
One of the enemy Necromancers, a wiry man with glowing green eyes, sent a wave of Exploding Ghouls toward Asad.
The ghouls detonated on impact, leaving craters in the ground.
However, Asad raised his hand, summoning a Soul Ward, a shimmering barrier that absorbed the blasts and left him unscathed.
"Your tricks are pathetic," Asad sneered, his free hand conjuring a wave of dark energy that disintegrated the remaining ghouls.
One by one, the enemy Necromancers fell.
Asad's Blight Hulks crushed the enemy's summons while his Soulbound Phantoms cleared up all Shadow Wraiths and Ghoul Swarms.
Asad himself incapacitated the Necromancer's leader with his Necrotic Lance, binding her with chains forged from her own undead energy.
The remaining Necromancers, seeing their doom, wanted to flee, but in the end, they were all captured!
Asad had no plans of killing them from the very start!
Since he couldn't recruit Necromancers through Recruitment Stones, he could only capture other Necromancers and make them his with his Mind-Controlling Ability!
This was a perfect answer to his problem, especially with his mind-controlling ability, which could only be achieved by people practicing this Dark Arts!
'With these seven Necromancers under my command, I'll be the strongest Survivor!'
