Chapter 3: A first time for everything.
New day, new problems.
Hani, who is down to her last 1000 credits, is in a terrible situation.
It's just enough to feed me for the next 2 weeks if I were starving myself for 4 days. IF I want to keep training magic, I need more money. Studying only gets me so far. I have to make sure I also use the knowledge I gain, or it would all be for nothing!
Turning on her laptop, she starts to search for jobs online. Frustrated as she is, she needs a job close to school and part-time. She sees a couple of them online and makes a quick CV. Since she has never had a job before, it's pretty much empty. It covered only half the page.
Still reluctant to give up, she sends the CV anyway.
Ping!
Hani sees a notification for a new email.
Oh! Did they reply already?
Excited, she opened the email. [We are sorry to inform...] Damit! Might as well go to study for now. Maybe someone else will reply soon.
She packs her bag, making her way to the library. Walking there, suddenly a kid walks out of a cafe screaming, " I quit, I can't handle this anymore." Accidentally bumping into her, he just gives a frustrated nod of apology as he storms away.
What the hell was tha—
A pissed off looking woman, tall, beautiful and fierce looking, places a [Hiring Part-timers now] sign on the window.
No way! Is the Heavens finally looking down upon me? Hani clasps her hands together with a blissful face. Maybe I can get this job!
Hani steps inside the cafe, instantly grabbing the sign the woman just placed down. The woman looks at her as Hani points at the sign.
"Miss! I would like this job!"
The woman looks at Hani up and down. She sighs as she runs her hand through her long silver hair.
Hani takes her time to appreciate the beautiful woman before her. She is a sucker for a beautiful woman as she stares at her. Looking at her silver hair and eyes, she wonders, This lady must have very strong ice-type magic.
The woman sits down nonchalantly. Her presence is domineering. She crosses her legs as she points towards the chair beside her.
Hani sits down.
"Name?"
"My name is Hani Jin! Nice to meet you," She holds out a hand awkwardly. It is left hanging, "Ah-hehehe." She laughs awkwardly as she puts her hand down.
"Any experience working in a cafe?"
"Um.. No..." Taking out her CV, she hands it to the woman, " This is my CV, Miss?"
"Call me Ivory." She takes the paper and looks at it. Unable to say any words from the shock, she looks at the CV, then at Hani, back and forth a few times. She throws the CV on the table and sighs.
"So no experience whatsoever?"
"No..."
"Whatever it says, you are smart, so you are good at remembering things right?"
"Yes! I am very good at that! I am also very organised and resilient!" Hani perks up, glowing, hoping there is a chance, "Please, Miss Ivory, give me a chance! You won't regret hiring me! Worst thing you can just fire me!"
"Well, another thing, I have a lot of cold mana, so you understand how this workplace can be? The guy before quit cause he could not handle it."
"I am completely fine! As I said before, I'm a very resilient person! I have no complaints! What's wrong with the cold? If anything, it's just refreshing!" Hani blurts out.
Ivory looks at Hani and clocks what she said and lets out a laugh.
"Hahaha," Her deep voice resonates as she wipes the tears from her eyes, " You don't think before you speak, do you? Funny girl." She stands up, patting Hani's head, making Hani flustered as she blushes.
She walks over to the counter, takes out a book from under the counter and places it on top.
"These are all the recipes we have for the various drinks we sell. If you don't memorise them, it will be hard for you to keep this job."
Intrigued, Hani walks up and opens the book. She realises why the other worker quit. Each drink was complex, with over 20 ingredients.
"The cafe is quite new, and we are a speciality store as you can see."
Hani nods, looking at the drinks. "Oh! You make drinks from ingredients that are from all over the world! How were you transporting these? They die instantly after uprooting or plucking them!"
Fascinated, Hani scans more ingredients which are similar. Being a bookworm, every time she read a book, she read about these types of fruits. Wither plants. The second you pick them up, it starts to wither.
"Well, I specialise in that," Ivory says, smiling at Hani. What a peculiar girl. Ivory thinks to herself.
"You seem to know your stuff... Hani" She opens the fridge and takes out a box inside it a citrus type fruit called Hiberna, blue in color and frozen solid as if still alive and stuck to it's tree.
"Oh!" Hani looks at it, shocked, "So you use strong frost magic on these! I did not know it could be done like this!"
Ivory grabs one and ushers Hani to come to the other side of the counter "Let me teach you how to make these."
Taking her time, Ivory goes through each step one by one with patience, showing Hani how to make each drink.
At the start, a bit clumsy, Hani was able to pick up the routine pretty quickly. Soon enough, after a few hours of learning, Hani can move around making drinks on her own without having to look at the book.
Pleasantly surprised, Ivory watches Hani make each drink on her own.
Satisfied as Hani replicated each drink to perfection, she grins. "You seem to be perfect for this job, Hani!"
Patting her on the back, Ivory smiles at Hani, "That's all for today, you can take some drink with you that you made today. Now let's go through the contract."
As Ivory walks to the back office, Hani takes a seat.
I can't believe I am getting a job! Finally, I'm actually getting paid to work, unlike the orphanage where I just had to slave away. Hani grumbles in a past memory.
Ivory comes back out with a contract and slides it over to Hani.
Without missing a beat, Hani signs it.
Wide eyes, Ivory starts to laugh again " Hahaha, Hani, you have to read the contract! The job is not running away." She laughs with her whole body.
Hani blushes, looking hot as fire itself, as she hides her face behind the contract. "Yes, of course, I will, sorry"
Looking through the contract properly, she is happy with the hours as it's only weekend work, and the pay was great.6 hours a day from 6 am to 12 noon and 100 credits per hour. That's great!
She reads further to read that I have certain safety rules to follow and that I am not able to steal the recipe, etc. Overall, looking at it, Hani was happy since it was not too much work, and the timing meant she could still have part of the weekend to herself.
"Miss Ivory! I am happy with all of these terms." She hands one of the copies of the contract back to her as she clutches her one with excitement.
"Come tomorrow, just in case, cause you need to get used to serving customers. Since I am the only other person who works, I will teach you."
Standing up, she pats Hani's head again " I will see you tomorrow, Hani"

[Hani's dorm]
"Yesshhhhh!!!!" Hani screams as she shuts the door behind her. She had borrowed some books from the library and gotten back home.
"I actually got a job!" Hani says, happily jumping up and down. Excited, she takes out the contract from her bag again.
She brings it to her face and kisses it, "Yay!" She clutches it close to her chest, jumping around her room again.
"I should frame this!"
She replaces one of her photos with the contract on the fridge. All giddy, Hani sits down on her desk using that height, she gets out her books and starts to study.
"While my stat won't increase as fast without the physical practice, I can still increase it! You can do it, Hani! You got a job, so anything is possible!!"
With fiery eyes, she takes out one of the drinks she made. Popping the lid open, she drinks it. She feels a burst of flavour, something new and refreshing. "Wow!" She had never tasted anything like these before, " Who knew that either plants tasted this good. The taste was addictive as she slurped it.
The refreshing feeling helped her focus on her studies. Thoroughly pleased at this outcome, she gets on with her studies.
She checks her stats. [23] Still a long way to go!
