Ghoul: Starting with Sharingan

Chapter 101: Brother Byakuya

Eto didn't take much time to return from the 24th Ward. Soon, she came back with nearly a suitcase full of rotten meat.

Meanwhile, Mayu was sitting on the couch, engrossed in watching TV.

"I'm back~"

Eto dragged the suitcase inside.

"Mmm..."

Mayu almost instinctively wanted to call her "Mom" but remembering that Eto hadn't agreed to it yet, she quickly corrected herself, "Sister Eto"

"Mayu, come and eat."

Eto opened the suitcase and took out container after container of rotten meat.

The storage boxes still felt cold to the touch, as they had been kept in a refrigerator to preserve them. This helped minimize the loss of RC cell activity.

Mayu's eyes widened in amazement.

Unlike the decayed, fragmented remains she usually struggled to find, these containers of meat were well-preserved and looked surprisingly appetizing.

"How did you manage to get so much?"

Mayu couldn't help but ask, her face filled with awe and admiration.

"That's a secret. Your big sister has all sorts of tricks up her sleeve."

Eto had no intention of revealing her ghoul identity to Mayu.

If Mayu accidentally let it slip, it could cause trouble. So, for safety's sake, Eto couldn't tell her everything.

"So amazing..."

Mayu marveled but obediently didn't press further.

She was eager to fill her stomach but still cautiously asked Eto, "Can I really eat this?"

"Silly, I brought it back specifically for you. If you can't eat it, who else can?"

Eto couldn't help but laugh.

"Okay!"

Mayu nodded happily.

She then opened the lid of one of the containers.

Although she was quite hungry, she didn't wolf down the food. Instead, she ate in small, delicate bites, showing a surprisingly ladylike demeanor.

At this moment, Byakuya walked over and said to Eto , "Eto, Mayu said she wants to call us 'Mom' and 'Dad.' What do you think..."

Before he could finish, Eto interjected, "That sounds pretty nice, doesn't it?"

"The issue isn't that. The issue is that you two shouldn't go around announcing it to others."

Byakuya explained.

"Oh, I see. Got it."

Eto understood exactly what Byakuya was getting at.

"Mayu, you heard that, right? Don't call us 'Mom' and 'Dad' in public, okay?"

Eto reminded Mayu. "Because your dad is a high-ranking Ghoul Investigator. If the CCG finds out he suddenly has a daughter, they'll definitely investigate. If they discover you're a ghoul, it could cause a lot of trouble."

Of course, this explanation was tailored for Mayu.

It wasn't the real concern she and Byakuya had.

"Mm-hmm, okay! I won't say anything careless!"

She nodded earnestly and promised.

"Here's what we'll do. In public, you can just call us 'big brother' and 'big sister.'"

Eto suggested.

"Okay. So, can I call you 'Mom' and 'Dad' now?"

Mayu asked cautiously.

"Of course! I've always wanted a cute daughter~"

Eto said with a smile.

"Mom!"

Mayu exclaimed joyfully.

Then she turned to Byakuya and called out, "Dad!"

In truth, Mayu had no idea about Eto's real age. Combined with the mature vibe Eto gave off, she never imagined that the "Mom" she was calling wasn't much older than herself.

"Yeah."

Byakuya responded.

Suddenly having a daughter gave him a somewhat indescribable feeling.

...

After Mayu had eaten her fill, there was still plenty of rotten meat left that Eto had brought back.

The remaining meat was stored in the refrigerator, enough to last Mayu for a while.

"Rest for a bit. Later, we'll go out and buy you some new clothes. You can't keep wearing mine forever."

Eto said to her.

"Okay~"

Mayu nodded.

She felt incredibly happy, basking in the warmth of having family who cared for her.

However, she couldn't help but feel a little guilty. She had been receiving so much kindness from her "Mom" and "Dad" yet she hadn't done anything in return.

She felt she should do something, at least to be of some help to them...

"By the way, do you have any clothes you really want? We can go straight there later."

Eto asked Mayu.

"Well... there's a place in the 19th Ward. I've never been anywhere else, so..."

Mayu said, a bit embarrassed.

"That's fine. We can just go back to the 19th Ward, right?"

Eto said casually.

If they took the subway, getting from the 1st Ward to the 19th Ward wouldn't take long, so it wasn't inconvenient at all.

"Darling, you'll come with us later, right? You wouldn't refuse, would you?"

Eto then turned to Byakuya.

"Sure, I don't have anything else to do anyway."

Byakuya replied with a calm nod.

After that, he and Eto had dinner and prepared to head out.

Meanwhile, Mayu stayed on the couch, watching TV.

Seeing that her "Mom" and "Dad" could eat normal human food, Mayu became even more convinced that they were both human.

...

At this point, RC detection gates weren't widely installed because they were expensive.

As a result, subway stations didn't have RC detection gates yet. Priority was given to more critical locations.

In truth, the Washuu clan wasn't particularly supportive of widespread RC detection gates either. If ghouls' living conditions were further restricted, it would disrupt the balance they sought between humans and ghouls.

This was why, even in the original timeline, many ghouls were still able to blend into human society.

Today, Mayu had seen a lot of new things.

She had never had the chance to ride the subway, buy clothes, or get toys before.

Now, Byakuya and Eto took her to a shopping mall in the 19th Ward.

Mayu found the clothing store she had been wanting to visit.

She had often peeked at the beautiful clothes in this store from outside, so it left a deep impression on her.

"This is the place"

Mayu pointed at the store in front of them.

"Just pick whatever you want. After all, your dad has money... oh wait, outside we should call him 'big brother,' right?"

As she spoke, Eto suddenly teased Byakuya, "Isn't that right, big brother Byakuya?"
