Chapter 606: High Priestess
Song Liu turned her head, only to notice that a gate she had never seen before had appeared behind the table where the two other generals were sitting before.
The gate opened inwardly, the sounds of chains clicking and a faint whisper, simply unrecognizable, filled the room. From the other side of the door, a woman entered the room, her steps steady and powerful.
The woman was dressed in beautiful, smooth red priestess robes. Even though the robes were very loose, they were unable to hide the prominent features of the woman's body.
The only part of her skin that was visible was her hands. Song Liu tried to look at her face, but the mask covering it gave her a subtle headache, prompting her to look away.
As if sensing her gaze, the high priestess looked at Song Liu for a moment before moving around the table, making her presence more intense in the room.
"Arghh!" Stella groaned in pain, her face plastered against the floor once more. Just the mere presence of the high priestess had shifted the current of the air in the room. She seemed to carry a majestic aura that made the two other generals drop to their knees at the same time.
"Greetings, High Priestess!" A look of reverence and admiration flashed through their eyes as they looked at the woman.
Even when she was lying on the ground coughing blood, Stella was not angry at all. Not only was there no anger in her eyes, but she even showed emotions similar to the other two generals and… something deeper.
She stopped all signs of resistance and lay down on the ground in a kneeling position, her face looking downwards with no intention of looking up.
"Hig– High Priestess!" Stella stuttered as she tried to make sense of her words. "I... dare not! Please spare me!"
"Stella, how many times have I told you to act in line?" The high priestess did not even spare a single glance at the woman squirming for attention. She approached the head seat at the table and grazed her long, graceful fingers on the wooden chair before pulling it backward and taking a seat.
Her actions were very natural, but they were full of grace and charm. Upon taking her seat, she tapped on the table twice before a tea set appeared before her eyes.
Cling!
"Since you fail to comprehend my words, you will stay like that through the whole meeting." Only after she poured herself a cup of warm tea did the woman finally lower her head to look at Stella, who collapsed under her gaze without even needing any sort of pressure.
"...Yes," her sheepish voice sounded in the room, causing the two guys to tremble in disgust. Even Hemes, who rarely showed any negative emotions, could not stop himself from shaking.
"Stand up, children." Amon and Hemes, who were still bowing to the woman on the ground, finally stood up after they were allowed to do so. Amon immediately shot Song Liu a sharp glare as soon as he stood up.
"Take a seat." As she spoke, the high priestess poured three more cups of tea for them.
'How infuriating! It's all because of that little girl!' Stella resisted the urge to raise her head and jump on the table. She could only blame her misfortune on the girl because of whom she lost control and lashed out.
"It's an honor, High Priestess!" Amon and Hemes took their designated seats at the table. They were sitting on opposite sides, closest to the high priestess. Now Song Liu was the only person left standing in the room while the rest were either sitting or prostrating themselves.
"Your name is Song Liu, right?" The high priestess raised the lower half of the mask to reveal a pair of plump cherry lips and took a sip of the tea before lowering it back down. She tilted her head as if looking at the girl up and down, analyzing her.
"Yes, High Priestess." On the surface, Song Liu kept her calm in front of the woman who had just suppressed someone as powerful as Stella with a single glance. But her heartbeat was skipping at a very fast pace as she felt the weight of that gaze scanning her from head to toe.
"Hmm, Amon said you have quite the talent, and I can see that is true since you are already ready to break through to the Core Formation Realm at any time… Are you trying to delay it for a better foundation?" Song Liu shivered, sensing the amused tone in her words, while the others except Amon looked at Song Liu with shock.
"High Priestess, are you saying that she is holding off her breakthrough on purpose?" Stella finally could not stop herself and jerked her head upward. She looked at Song Liu as if she were some kind of monster. "Her bone age is not even 18—"
Before she could continue her rant, Stella was silenced by a single glance from the high priestess. Just a single look from the woman, though blocked by the mask, sent shivers down her spine. She gulped the rest of her words back into her heart.
"Even though it's hard to believe, she indeed has better talent than any of you." Hemes was the next person to show a look of disbelief when he heard that sentence. 'Does that mean she will be nurtured as the next general?'
Amon, on the other hand, showed a subtle smile on his face upon hearing the assessment of the woman he brought back to the organization. Having someone like Song Liu on the side of the enemy would have made things a bit complicated for their organization in the future.
But… the high priestess was not done with her words and looked at Amon—a simple action that scared the man in his seat.
"…Even if you brought a talent like her back, it does not explain why you went against my orders. Instead of coming back after you were done planting your spies in the capital, you used the assets of the organization to attack a sect, risking exposing us ahead of time. Not to mention only you and one of your captains were the ones who came back with the help of the Space Burning Butterfly." The more the priestess spoke, the colder her voice became, and even the air around Amon seemed to come to a standstill. Even Song Liu felt like there was a blade hanging over her head that could fall at any time.
