The young man who was called snapped out of his daze and looked at the guards and then at the woman who was running towards them.

Seeing them closing the gates, despair started to appear all over her face. A moment of distraction caused her to stagger and trip over her feet.

The look of hope started to vanish from her eyes when the gates were almost closed. The young man could not bear to see this scene, and after making up his mind, he finally took a step forward.

Instead of pushing the door, he moved right past the guards and walked out of the gates. 'She is not just one person, and besides, I would rather not be a guard than be this kind of guard.'

"Oye, where are you going?!" One of the guards tried to stop the boy, but he was stopped by the same guy who proposed to close the gate. "Let him go! Focus on closing the gate, he wants to die, let him die."

Even though they seemed reluctant, the guards focused on closing the door once more. The beasts were already a few hundred meters away from them, and they did not want to die.

The woman outside the settlement was shocked to see a young guard dashing towards her.

She turned back and saw a stampede of beasts coming in her direction. Their intimidating appearance and powerful aura almost caused her to faint from fear.

Before she even realized it, the guard appeared before her, shielding her from the beasts. Despite knowing what the outcome would be, the man raised his sword and stood tall, ready to face the Rank 3 Spirit Beasts.

"Please take my child! I cannot run anymore!" Snapping out of her daze, the woman kowtowed to the guard on her knees, her face smeared with dirt as she pleaded for him to take her son away. "I will only be a burden, they might delay seeing me here, please take him away in the meantime!"

"Mama!! Waah! Waah!" The child started to cry in fear and sadness, he did not like seeing his mother's state. Her appearance broke his heart. On the other hand, the young man was not much different from the child. He did not expect the woman to suddenly say something like that.

He was here to save them both and she wanted to sacrifice herself.

"Please hurry up!! They will be here in no time!!!" The woman clenched at the man's robes seeing the beasts coming closer and closer.

'How is this any different from what they are doing?' The guard clenched his hands in frustration. 'Why am I so powerless that I have to choose who to save? I want to save them both!'

Hearing their roar that was so loud it seemed as if they were right beside his ears, the young man jerked his head backward only to see a huge claw coming right at them.

His body shook before it moved on its own and he used his own body to hug the mother and child in hopes of protecting them.

The guard and the woman closed their eyes hoping everything would end instantly.

Although the woman regretted not being able to save her son, there was nothing she could do.
