Chapter 103: I Give Up, I Really Give Up
Felina fought with Apep once again.
The battle was just as intense as before, resembling an apocalyptic catastrophe.
Dark clouds covered the entire sky, and torrential rain poured down, blanketing the desert in Bloom seeds.
The scale of this battle had long surpassed the scope of human imagination.
The rainfall alone was so heavy that in just two minutes, it could cripple the drainage system of a large city, causing severe flooding. In ten minutes, it could trigger devastating flash floods.
The sheer number of densely packed Bloom seeds covering the desert sands piled up like mountains, an overwhelming sight that could easily induce trypophobia.
Each wave of Bloom seed blooms carried the force equivalent to millions of rocket salvos, scouring the land over and over again.
Thankfully, the battle took place in the desert; had it occurred in a populated area or mountainous region, everything would have either been submerged in water or reduced to rubble by the relentless blooming of Bloom seeds.
Meanwhile, at Port Ormos—
The desert dwellers who had been preemptively evacuated to safety stood alongside Fontaine's citizens, gazing at the distant desert skyline.
In the sky, an enormous water vortex dominated a portion of the sky, with relentless divine attacks raining down into it—each blow carrying unfathomable might.
Though they could not see the figures of those battling above, they could witness the attacks descending from the sky and hear the deafening explosions from their collisions.
They knew their gods were reshaping their homeland in this magnificent battle, bestowing life and prosperity upon it, blessing them and their future generations.
Though desert dwellers and Fontaine citizens came from different backgrounds, they now belonged to the same nation.
At this moment, they stood together, watching the grand spectacle unfold in the sky, a testament to the immense power of their gods.
Seeing their gods demonstrate such overwhelming might filled them with excitement and pride, deepening their reverence.
Port Ormos had now become the hottest spot in Fontaine, attracting countless visitors from Fontaine and other nations who gathered to witness what was considered the most spectacular battle since the end of the Archon War.
The breathtaking spectacle left the crowd's blood boiling, and rumors soon spread across Teyvat proclaiming the Hydro Archon as the strongest among the Seven.
The battle between the god and dragon raged eastward, moving from Apep's lair to the Dune of Carouses, the Sanctuary of Surasthana, and eventually to Aaru Village.
Everywhere they passed, the blooming Bloom seeds tilled the sands again and again, while water elements soaked the desert layer upon layer.
In the end, the already weakened Apep, exhausted and overwhelmed by the high-intensity battle, retreated once more to its lair.
Felina, understanding the principle of sustainable exploitation, knew she couldn't push Apep too hard. If it consumed too much energy and couldn't resist the forbidden knowledge within it, it might die. So, she decided to let it go this time.
Players familiar with Nahida's second Story Quest would know that Apep, as an ancient dragon lord, possessed immense pride—especially toward the Seven Archons, whom it despised deeply.
Yet now, it had willingly retreated from Felina and Furina, a testament to how much torment it had endured.
Apep thought to itself: "You, the Hydro Archon, are one of the thieves who stole the power of the dragons. I, as a dragon lord, have already shown restraint by withdrawing—consider this me giving you face. Now, you should know when to back off."
However, much to its dismay, just four days later, Furina returned once again.
Currently, Furina was highly enthusiastic about engaging in rebellious and unconventional activities.
Standing outside Apep's lair, she raised her voice and shouted,
"Apep! You big fool!!"
"Why did you run away halfway through the last two fights? Are you not up to the task?"
Apep: Endures silently.
Furina: "I see, you couldn't beat me, so you chose to run away!"
Apep: Endures!!
Furina: "Tch, always talking about revenge against Celestia and the Seven, calling them thieves, yet here you are running away from a mere Hydro Archon like me. In my opinion, it's all just the delusions of a loser!"
Finally, Apep couldn't hold it in any longer: "Even the first Hydro Archon did not dare speak to me in such a manner, and yet you, a mere second-generation god, dare to be so arrogant!"
"If I were at my peak, a single move would be enough to crush you! How dare a mere child like you act so presumptuously before me!"
Furina: "Tsk~ That was then, this is now. If you want to talk about the past, why don't you compare yourself to when you were just born?"
"I have just one thing to say—you're weak! Train harder! If you can't handle losing, then don't even play!"
Furina's tone was filled with utter disdain, her taunts brimming with mockery!
"You!!!"
Apep roared furiously in response!
The forbidden knowledge had already tormented and twisted its emotions, leaving it irritable and easily provoked. Now, with Furina's endless ridicule, Apep could no longer endure it!
With adrenaline surging, it forgot its exhaustion and charged out of its lair once again to clash with Furina!
Another earth-shattering battle erupted.
This time, the god and dragon fought southward, from the Mausoleum of King Deshret to the molten terrain of Devantaka Mountain, and then all the way to the hills of Sobek Oasis.
Eventually, as the adrenaline wore off, the overwhelming fatigue returned, and Apep, feeling utterly drained, chose to flee once more.
And once again, four days later, Furina returned.
But this time, no matter how much she shouted insults—no matter how much she provoked—even when she directly launched attacks into its lair, Apep no longer responded.
At this point, only a small part of the desert remained untouched by the transformation. Seeing that Apep remained silent and unmoved, Furina pulled out the ultimate weapon Felina had given her.
"They say the Dragon King, Nibelung, wielded unparalleled power, leading the even elemental dragon sovereigns with enough strength to shake Celestia itself."
"But now that I see it... I must have overestimated you. If the mighty Dragon King Nibelung had followers as cowardly as you, then perhaps he wasn't that impressive after all."
Well, now she had done it—who was Nibelung?
It was well known that the Seven Elemental Dragon Sovereigns were powerful, but above them, in the beginning, there had been a supreme ruler—the Dragon King, Nibelung.
In ancient times, Nibelung had led the elemental dragons as the original inhabitants of Teyvat.
Then, the divine entity Phanes descended, creating humanity with divine power and establishing laws.
Unwilling to see outsiders usurp their land, Nibelung led the dragons in an assault on Celestia, but ultimately lost.
Later, having escaped beyond the world, Nibelung obtained the power of forbidden knowledge and returned to Teyvat, seeking revenge against the Heavenly Principles.
But by the time Nibelung returned, many of the elemental dragon sovereigns had either perished or fled. Some had even grown accustomed to the new order established by Celestia, leaving only a few, including Apep, willing to continue the fight.
Even though Nibelung had been defeated in the end, Apep still held that grudge deep in its heart, considering Nibelung to be its eternal king.
Now, with Furina openly mocking Nibelung, how could Apep endure such an insult?
In a fit of rage, it burst forth once more, clashing fiercely with Furina again!
This time, the god and dragon battled their way southeast.
The earth-shaking fight continued, taking them from the Eternal Oasis all the way to the Valley of Dahri.
Apep had already been tormented by forbidden knowledge for a thousand years, leaving it severely weakened.
Now, after four high-intensity battles, no matter how much fury it harbored, the sheer exhaustion finally took its toll, and its movements grew sluggish.
"Stagnation Law!"
"Acceleration Law, go!"
Seeing Apep finally show signs of weakness, Furina knew the moment had come.
Without any strength left, surely this Dendro Dragon wouldn't be able to struggle and resist purification now, right?
Hovering in the air, she swiftly activated the Law of Stagnation, freezing the space around Apep.
Then, using the Law of Acceleration, she hurled a highly compressed water droplet at it.
As soon as the Law of Stagnation was lifted, Apep barely had time to react before the droplet landed on its face.
With a loud explosion, the overwhelming force of Hydro element surged through Apep's body.
The already exhausted dragon could no longer hold on and collapsed to the ground.
"Yes! It's down!"
Furina cheered. "Pin it down for me!"
At her command, an immense figure formed from Hydro element appeared, a massive Hydro General wielding two colossal "Y"-shaped water forks. With a heavy thud, it drove them into Apep's head and tail, firmly pinning it to the ground.
"Felina, it's done!"
Furina, clearly delighted with her victory, called out for Felina to step in.
"Well done!"
Felina smiled and took control of the situation.
At this moment, the pinned-down Apep lifted its head, glaring at Felina in indignation.
"Cursed little god! What exactly do you want?!"
"If you mean to kill me, then just do it! Why do you keep coming back every few days just to toy with and humiliate me?!"
Felina chuckled in response.
"You're already in such a sorry state after being beaten by me. If I'm just a little god, then what does that make you? A little dragon?"
"Y-You...!" Apep stammered, momentarily speechless, then huffed indignantly. "Hmph! I won't lower myself to argue with a second-generation god like you."
Felina, uninterested in bickering, simply said, "I never intended to kill you."
"I heard you were tainted by forbidden knowledge, and it just so happens that I have the ability to purify it. I thought I'd try helping you, to ease your suffering."
Hearing this, Apep cursed furiously.
"If you wanted to help me, why didn't you say so earlier?!"
Felina: "I figured you wouldn't agree, so I decided to beat you down first and then help you!"
Apep: "You didn't even ask!"
"Uh…" Felina scratched her head awkwardly. "Also, now that the desert has joined Fontaine, my people will be living and building their future here. But since this land originally belonged to you, I figured you wouldn't be too happy about it, so I thought we'd have to fight it out first."
Apep: "Nonsense! I'm not that petty! When King Deshret built his kingdom on my land, didn't I allow it?"
"How dare you humiliate me without even seeking my permission!"
"..."
Felina was speechless. Despite Apep's current expression of feeling deeply wronged, she knew this ancient dragon all too well.
If she had approached Apep outright and offered to purify the forbidden knowledge within it, its prideful nature would have likely led to a scornful response:
"Just a small god borrowing a sliver of heaven's light—do you think I need your help? Even if you cure me, I will not be grateful to you!"
And if she had directly declared the desert as Fontaine's territory?
Hah! Back then, King Deshret had to make a deal with Apep to establish his kingdom in the desert, and in the end, he was devoured by Apep. With its arrogance, coupled with the influence of forbidden knowledge, there was no way it would have so easily accepted the desert becoming part of Fontaine.
So, despite its current pitiful demeanor, it was nothing more than Apep venting after being thoroughly beaten into submission.
If they hadn't subdued it first, would it be showing this attitude now? Of course not.
But now that Apep was voicing its grievances, it meant it had truly conceded. It was willing to accept purification and, more importantly, acknowledge the reality of the desert's integration into Fontaine.
With the entire desert now fully transformed and their goals achieved, Felina saw no harm in offering Apep a way to save face.
Feigning cluelessness, she scratched her head and laughed, "Haha, my apologies! Looks like I misjudged you and thought too poorly of you."
"It's my fault. I sincerely apologize."
After saying that, Felina signaled Furina to release the Hydro General, freeing Apep from being pinned to the ground like a helpless snake.
"Hmph!"
Seeing Felina admit her mistake, Apep took the opportunity to accept it with a huff, stepping down from its grievances.
Thus, through their "battle for peace," Felina finally used the Law of Purification to cleanse the forbidden knowledge within Apep.
She then called upon Nahida, who used the ancient flame left behind by the Greater Lord Rukkhadevata a thousand years ago to reignite Apep's Heart of Oasis, a vital energy source within the dragon.
With the sickness removed and its Heart of Oasis reactivated, Apep would gradually recover on its own.
Once purified, Apep's temperament calmed significantly, no longer as aggressive and volatile as before.
With its emotions soothed, Apep became far more reasonable and understanding. Acknowledging Felina and Nahida's assistance, it silently accepted its debt of gratitude and no longer argued about the desert's annexation or Furina's beatings.
Leaving with a final cold snort, it stated that it needed to enter a deep slumber to recover, then retreated back into its lair.
And with that, the matters of the desert were finally settled.
With Hydro and Dendro elements nourishing the land, life flourished throughout the once-barren sands.
Lush vegetation and thriving ecosystems covered the desert, bringing an era of prosperity.
Countless desert dwellers returned to their homeland, and upon witnessing the incredible transformation, they rejoiced with celebrations.
They sang and danced by the newly formed oases and streams, erecting statues of Furina in various tribes. They honored her as the Goddess of Oases, praising her deeds and virtues.
With the desert and Apep's issues resolved, Felina could now finally turn her attention to other pressing matters—such as dealing with Focalors, who was still hidden within the Oratrice.
