Genshin Impact: The Crit Archon

Chapter 27: The Hidden Message

Aether's eyes widened as he flipped the letter over, revealing more hastily scribbled notes on the back. "Oh, there's more writing on the back," he announced, drawing Jean's attention back to the document.

Jean blinked in disbelief, her previous frustration at the Fatui letter momentarily forgotten. "I feel like an idiot," she muttered, leaning closer as Aether held the letter up for her to read.

---

This is from me, the 4th of the Harbingers. For full cooperation, I will give you my real name: Arlecchino. I assure you that no harm will come to Miss Eula's clan. As for my fellow Harbinger Dulcinella, he is a banker, not a fighter. I will be taking care of the Fatui you sent back. Acting Grand Master, do know I stole this letter before it was sent.

---

"What?" Eula exclaimed, her eyes narrowing. "Arlecchino? I've heard of her. She's known for her cunning and manipulation. If she's involved, we need to be very careful."

Aether frowned, considering the implications. "If she's vouching for Eula's clan, it could mean that they're not the ones we need to worry about. But if she's really pulling strings behind the scenes, we might be walking into a bigger trap than we anticipated."

Jean ran a hand through her hair, trying to process the information. "This complicates things. Arlecchino's reputation is that of a puppet master. She could be setting us up for something much larger, using us as pawns in a game we don't fully understand."

Eula nodded, her expression turning serious. "We have to tread carefully. If she's involved, we can't just take her word for it. We need to gather intel on her movements and connections within the Fatui. She may be promising safety for my clan, but her motives could be entirely self-serving."

"Agreed," Jean said, folding the letter carefully and placing it aside. "We'll need to keep this information close to our chest. Aether, I want you to reach out to any contacts you have in Mondstadt's underground. They might have insights into Arlecchino's plans or her influence within the Fatui."

Aether nodded, feeling the weight of the task ahead. "I'll get started on that right away."

Eula added, "And I'll speak to my family. If Arlecchino is indeed protecting us, I need to know what my clan's history with the Fatui is. Perhaps there are secrets they've kept hidden that could shed light on this situation."

As they began to formulate their next steps, a sense of urgency filled the room. The stakes were high, and the presence of Arlecchino added a layer of danger they hadn't anticipated.

---

Meanwhile, in a dimly lit chamber within the Fatui stronghold, Arlecchino sat back, a sly smile on her face as she observed her plans unfold. "Let them scurry about," she whispered to herself. "Every move they make brings us closer to the grand design."

She paused, contemplating her next steps. "It's time to stir the pot further. I need to send a message to the rest of the Harbingers. They'll want to know about my new playthings in Mondstadt."

With a swift motion, she summoned a messenger. "Prepare a letter for the Harbingers. Let them know that our little game is about to get interesting."

As the messenger rushed off, Arlecchino leaned back in her chair, the flickering candlelight casting shadows across her face. "Let the games begin," she murmured, her laughter echoing softly through the halls.

---

Back in Mondstadt, Aether and Jean were already deep in conversation, unaware of the web of manipulation being woven around them. Each decision they made would ripple through the fabric of alliances and rivalries, shaping the future of their city and their clans.

"Arlecchino, huh?"

The trio turned their heads to see Kaeya, casually taking a seat at the table.

Kaeya then spoke, a hint of intrigue in his tone. "Out of all the Harbingers, we have more information about her than any other. She runs an orphanage."

Aether raised an eyebrow at that. "Really?"

Kaeya nodded, leaning back in his chair. "From what we've gathered, it's called the House of Hearts."

Eula chimed in, her expression thoughtful. "I've heard of that. It's a place where orphans from every nation go if they're taken in by her. Even some from Mondstadt."

Jean sighed, her brow furrowing. "The worst part is, some of our spies have noted that she actually takes care of all the children there with genuine love and kindness. It's no act—they even call her 'Father.'"

Aether blinked, processing this information. "Father? Not Mother?"

Kaeya chuckled lightly, a smirk playing on his lips. "Seems she's taken on a rather unconventional role. It's part of her persona, I suppose—playing the enigmatic caretaker while still being a Harbinger."

Eula crossed her arms, her gaze serious. "It sounds like a facade, but if she truly cares for those children, it complicates things. If she's using this orphanage to gain influence, we need to understand her motivations."

Jean nodded in agreement. "If she's genuinely protective of those children, we might have leverage in our dealings with her. But we also have to be cautious—she could be using this as a cover for her real intentions."

Aether looked between them, feeling the weight of their conversation. "So, what's our next move? We can't just sit here and speculate. We need to gather more information about the House of Hearts and Arlecchino's connections."

Kaeya leaned forward, his expression serious. "I can send some of our scouts to observe the orphanage. We need to know how she interacts with the children and the kind of influence she has in Mondstadt."

Eula added, "And I'll reach out to some of my contacts within the Lawrence Clan. They may have insights into any dealings with the Fatui and how Arlecchino's actions could affect our standing."

Jean smiled at their determination. "Good. Let's act quickly. The more we know, the better equipped we'll be to handle whatever Arlecchino has planned."

Aether looked at them, a thoughtful expression on his face. "So, what are we looking at? A master manipulator or a loving father?"

Kaeya chuckled lightly. "Why not both? Who says she can't be both?"

Aether nodded slowly. "That makes a lot of sense, but… since when did Mondstadt have spies?"

Jean leaned back in her chair, crossing her arms. "We've always had eyes and ears in the shadows, especially given the political climate. The Fatui's influence has pushed us to be more vigilant. Our scouts operate discreetly, gathering information on any potential threats or unusual activities."

Kaeya smirked. "Exactly. It's about being prepared for anything. And with the Fatui lurking around, we need to know what's happening behind the scenes. Besides, sometimes information can come from the most unexpected places."

Eula added, "It's not just about keeping an eye on the Fatui. There are other factions within Mondstadt that may not have our best interests at heart. Having spies helps us maintain some level of control over the situation."

Aether considered this, his brow furrowed. "I suppose that makes sense. But I still can't shake the feeling that if we dig too deep, we might uncover something we're not prepared for."

Jean nodded thoughtfully. "True, but we can't let fear dictate our actions. Knowledge is power, and the more we know about Arlecchino and her intentions, the better positioned we will be to respond effectively."

Kaeya leaned forward, his tone more serious. "And if she truly cares for those children, it might also be a way to negotiate. Perhaps we could use that connection to our advantage. If we approach her with the right intentions, we might be able to find common ground."

Aether looked at Kaeya, a hint of skepticism in his eyes. "Do you really think she would be open to that?"

Kaeya shrugged, his smirk returning. "You never know. Sometimes, showing that we understand her motives can open doors. It's worth a shot, especially if it means keeping the children safe."

Eula sighed, a mix of concern and determination in her voice. "Let's gather more information first. We need to understand what we're dealing with before we make any moves. And we should all be prepared for anything—Arlecchino might have her own agenda."

As they discussed their strategies, Aether couldn't shake the feeling that this encounter with the Harbingers was just the beginning. The line between ally and enemy was increasingly blurred, and he knew they would need to stay sharp to navigate the challenges ahead.

Kaeya then spoke. "I say we give them the Fauti back, mostly because it is a load of our back, and if Arlecchino is on our side it is better for us"

Aether just sigehd. "I agree with you, but still"

Jean then spoke. "Aether where is Paimon, I haven't seen her for two days"

Aether the spoke. "Oh I gave her to Am-"

The door was then bursted opens, with a knocker out Paimon as she was being holded by Amber who's hair was mess as she handed Aether Paimon

Amber looked at Aether a bit mad. "I am never babysitting Paimon ever again"

Aether just looked at her and patted her head, as he did He saw Amber blushing at that, his eyss narrowed a bit he was dum Anime Protagonist that doesn't get the singlas form the girls that likes him.

Aether looked at Amber, a mixture of concern and amusement in his eyes. "Thanks for looking after Paimon, but what did she do?"

Amber sighed, running a hand through her messy hair, her cheeks still tinged with red. "It's not just what she did—it's what she didn't stop doing! She insisted on trying every dish in my pantry and then claimed she was 'just tasting' everything. By the end, it looked like a tornado hit my kitchen!"

Kaeya chuckled, trying to hold back his laughter. "Sounds like classic Paimon. She's a culinary disaster waiting to happen."

Paimon, having finally been freed from Amber's grip, floated up and puffed her cheeks in defiance. "Hey! I was just helping! You should've seen the look on your face when I tasted your burnt cookies, Amber!"

Amber crossed her arms, her annoyance slowly fading into a smile. "They weren't burnt! I just… was experimenting with a new recipe."

Jean shook her head, a small smile creeping onto her face. "I can't believe you two. While I appreciate the comedic relief, we have more serious matters to discuss."

Aether, still watching the interaction, felt a slight twinge of realization. He noticed how Amber's demeanor shifted around him, but his mind was too occupied with the impending crisis to fully grasp it. "Alright, Paimon. Now that you're back, we need your insight on the Fatui situation. What do you think about Arlecchino?"

Paimon's eyes sparkled with mischief. "I think she's a total mystery! If she's a loving father figure to all those orphans, maybe she's not so bad? But I still don't trust her completely. We need to keep our guard up!"

Kaeya nodded in agreement. "Exactly. We should proceed with caution. Giving the Fatui back might be a strategic move, but we need to ensure it doesn't come back to bite us."

Jean added, "And we must consider how the other clan heads will react to our decisions. If we handle this poorly, it could lead to a larger conflict."

Amber finally regained her composure and chimed in, "We need a plan. If we're going to negotiate with Arlecchino, we have to approach her from a position of strength and trust. Perhaps we can leverage the safety of the orphans to get her cooperation?"

Aether considered this for a moment, the wheels turning in his mind. "That could work. But we should also ensure we have enough backing from the Lawrence Clan and the Knights of Favonius. We can't go in alone."

Kaeya smirked, leaning back in his chair. "Looks like we have our work cut out for us. Aether, you're the one with the connection to Eula and her family. You should lead this negotiation."

Aether felt the weight of their expectations but nodded. "Alright, I'll do my best. But we'll need everyone's support. I'll talk to Eula, and we can set a meeting with Arlecchino soon. We'll figure out how to turn this situation in our favor."

As the group started brainstorming ideas, Aether couldn't shake the feeling that they were on the brink of something much larger than they anticipated. The threads of fate were weaving together, and he could only hope they could navigate the complexities ahead.
