Chapter 9: Amber's Complicated Feelings
"Three guests, please enjoy your meal."
After placing the roasted meat and apple brew in front of the three, the bartender turned and left.
I guess I'm still not hungry…
Wendy casually took a bite of the roasted meat, feeling she wasn't hungry yet.
While one can eat without hunger, it always feels a bit less flavorful.
Never mind… I'll give this to Kaito to eat…
After a moment's thought, Wendy decided to give her roasted meat to Kaito. She then picked up the piece she had already bitten and placed it on his plate, while she herself began drinking the apple brew.
Kaito, meanwhile, had no reaction, simply picking up the roasted meat and eating it quite naturally. The entire process was so seamless, without even a word exchanged, that it left Amber on the other side of the table utterly stunned.
They… have such great chemistry…
The apple brew in her hand froze halfway to her lips. Amber, watching all this, was utterly astounded.
Normally, interactions between two people are accompanied by changes in language and expression, but Kaito and Wendy's interaction just now had almost none of those.
It was as if they had completed their interaction while still doing their own things, requiring no words or expressions. What incredible chemistry!
What's more, Wendy had already taken a bite out of that piece of roasted meat.
It seems… they really are that kind of couple…
"What's wrong, Amber?"
At this, Kaito looked over, a little puzzled.
"It's nothing, nothing at all."
Shaking her head with a smile, Amber said she was fine, then started eating her roasted meat.
However, Amber ate very quickly, whether from hunger or not, Kaito couldn't help but ask, "Are you in a hurry?"
"Yeah, I still have to complete my Reconnaissance Knight duties."
Saying this, Amber finished the remaining apple brew in her cup, then added, "Well, I'm off then, Kaito, Wendy. Thanks for treating me today; I'll get the next one. Bye!"
As soon as she finished speaking, Amber hurried out of Angel's Share, looking very much in a rush.
But as soon as she exited Angel's Share, Amber lost that hurried demeanor she had just moments ago.
With Wendy around… Kaito should have nothing to worry about anymore, right…
Walking towards the city gate, Amber couldn't help but think this.
At first, she was worried that Kaito would be inconvenienced by being alone in Mondstadt, a place he was unfamiliar with, especially after his injury earlier.
But now it was different. The girl named Wendy had appeared, and they were clearly very familiar, so with Wendy there, she felt relieved.
However…
Alright… Amber… focus on finishing your Reconnaissance Knight duties first…
Shaking her head to clear her thoughts, Amber decided to first properly complete her tasks as a Reconnaissance Knight.
As for other matters, they could wait.
Inside Angel's Share.
That much of a hurry?
Watching Amber's back disappear through the doorway, Kaito couldn't help but wonder.
But after a moment's thought, he realized.
Right… she did spend the whole morning with me at Whispering Woods… and then we ran into that Stonehide Lawachurl… it really did take a lot of time…
Once I figure out my body's situation… I'll go help out…
Pulling his gaze back from the doorway, Kaito, who had just finished the last bit of apple brew in his cup, thought this.
However, he still had a few things to do. First, he needed to rent a place to stay, as neither Wendy nor he could spend every night at Angel's Share.
While it wasn't an issue for Wendy, it was different for Kaito.
And more importantly, having a place to live was crucial for both Wendy and Kaito.
Second, he had to figure out the changes in his body.
Clearly, he was no longer the same as before.
He seemed… to have gotten stronger?
Thinking this, Kaito instinctively touched his hair.
Good, he hadn't gone bald yet. That's good news.
Third, he needed to get the Knights of Favonius to stop following him around all day. He wouldn't do anything to Mondstadt; at most, he'd just accidentally caused a little damage near the side gate.
However, Kaito currently had no idea how to make the Knights of Favonius stop tracking him.
Finally, there was the fourth matter: he wanted to see if that darned system would give him any quests. He didn't quite believe a system would be without quests.
Of course, the system was currently suspected to be in a stalled state, so he could ignore it for now.
Alright… first, let's figure out these changes in my body…
If I really have gotten stronger… then I'll go help Amber out… and Wendy can continue taking commissions to earn some Mora so we can rent a place…
Thinking this, Kaito and Wendy stood up simultaneously and walked towards the door.
He had already decided: he would go to Stormbearer Mountains and find some Hilichurls to test if he had truly gotten stronger.
Of course, he would have Wendy watch from the side, just in case anything went wrong.
As for how to get there, of course, Wendy would carry him and fly. They just needed to get a bit further away from Mondstadt before taking off; otherwise, if the Knights of Favonius saw them, they'd start all sorts of speculations about him and Wendy.
At Stormbearer Mountains.
Stepping down from Wendy's arms, Kaito glanced around. A few Hilichurls were not far away.
That speed is terrifying… it completely messed up my hair…
After tidying his slightly disheveled hair, Kaito began walking towards the Hilichurls, while Wendy sat down on a large rock nearby, ready to intervene at any moment.
One had to admit, Wendy's flying speed was truly terrifying.
On average, she flew at Mach 5, which is 1700 meters per second, several times faster than a passenger jet.
"Yaah—"
As Kaito drew closer, the Hilichurls spotted him, immediately letting out some incomprehensible shouts and charging towards him.
Whoosh—
Before the Hilichurls with clubs even reached him, a whooshing sound suddenly cut through the air, and an arrow shot towards Kaito.
But for some reason, the arrow's trajectory became clearly visible in Kaito's eyes.
Though it was fast, the next second it appeared in Kaito's hand.
He had caught it.
I can actually… catch a flying arrow now?
Kaito looked at the arrow in his hand, his face full of surprise.
