Chapter 147: Chapter 147: Ksenia
Bai Luo examined the documents carefully, though he didn't go through every single one.
The thick stack of papers contained only a few useful pieces of information. Most of it consisted of Igor's logs, which weren't worth much attention except for a few crucial details, such as the specifics of infiltrating Sangonomiya Shrine.
By the time Bai Luo had finished studying the documents, it was already past midnight.
Earlier, he could still hear the logistics soldiers cleaning up the bonfire party site, but now, aside from the occasional footsteps of patrol soldiers, there was nothing but silence.
"It should be about time."
As an assassin, Bai Luo naturally knew the best time for an assassination—like now.
The electro element became visibly active, and a faint scent of Mist Grass drifted in from outside.
"Hehehe..."
A silver-bell-like laughter came from the window. However, instead of sounding sweet, it carried an eerie, spine-chilling quality.
Accompanying the laughter was a strange buzzing sound.
It was similar to the noise of some kind of insect flapping its wings, and combined with the laughter, it gave off a hair-raising sensation.
Mist Grass was a mysterious plant whose pollen had a unique effect. With slight refinement, it could subtly influence certain magical creatures.
This effect was particularly strong on Cicins—to them, Mist Grass was like catnip to cats: both dangerous and irresistible.
When used, the pollen was typically bundled into a wick and placed inside a special lantern, acting as a lure.
A Mist Grass Wick, glowing with a dim, eerie light, attracted not only Cicins—but also misfortune and death.
Zzzzt—
Crackling lightning split through the window, and a lightning orb, the size of a basketball, shot toward Bai Luo at incredible speed.
Trailing behind the orb were Cicins, bewitched by the Mist Grass pollen.
They had completely sealed off Bai Luo's escape routes, attempting to kill him outright.
"Do-Ryu-Sen!"
The Reverse Blade Sword unsheathed, and a sword energy wave slashed forward, striking the incoming lightning orb and shattering it completely.
Skill: [Do-Ryu-Sen]
Slashes out a wave of sword energy in the target direction, dealing physical damage and reducing the target's accuracy by 30% for three seconds.
Originally, Do-Ryu-Sen was meant to strike the ground, using shattered rocks to hinder enemies. However, after being modified in-game, it became a sword energy-based attack—but its accuracy reduction effect remained useful.
"Blink!"
The attacker had anticipated that the lightning orb wouldn't be enough to deal with Bai Luo. The moment he destroyed it, she teleported into the room.
In her hand, the Mist Grass Wick flickered with a faint glow.
The light illuminated her masked face, making it look even more menacing.
"You're here?"
Bai Luo casually gathered the documents from the table and looked at her with a smile.
Both of them wore masks, creating an odd atmosphere.
The Electro Cicin Mage said nothing. Instead, she flexed the fingers of her free hand—the one not holding the Mist Grass Wick.
Pale purple lightning danced between her fingertips, radiating danger.
She didn't waste time with words. Raising her hand, she summoned a bolt of lightning that crashed down toward Bai Luo.
At the same time, the Cicins around her launched suicidal attacks, continuously hurling themselves at Bai Luo.
However, it was as if Bai Luo was already familiar with her attack patterns. He dodged every lightning strike effortlessly.
Biting her lip lightly, her brows furrowed.
The Electro Cicin Mage's arm trembled slightly.
She knew very well—this wandering swordsman before her was terrifying.
Because he was someone who had truly wounded a god.
Even if the process had been exaggerated, the fact remained undeniable—he had made a god bleed.
A person like him… was not someone she could possibly defy.
Yet, he knew her real name. For an undercover agent, that was a fatal flaw.
If it only concerned herself, there might still be room to salvage the situation. But if others were exposed because of her, then she would be guilty beyond redemption.
That was why she had to come tonight—knowing full well that it was a suicidal meeting.
"Now you've really pissed me off!"
With what sounded like a threat, the Electro Cicin Mage gripped the Mist Grass Wick and blinked directly beside Bai Luo, raising the lantern to smash it down on him.
"???"
Bai Luo caught her wrist mid-swing, feeling a bit exasperated.
The Electro Cicin Mages, as part of the Fatui's special forces, usually engaged in ranged or hit-and-run combat. They rarely engaged in melee.
Even when they did, they would activate their shields first.
But charging in to smash a lantern like this?
This was the first time Bai Luo had ever seen such a thing.
It could only mean one thing—she was truly desperate.
Or perhaps… she was seeking death.
Seizing the Mist Grass Wick from her grasp, Bai Luo casually tossed it aside.
Without the Mage's energy supply, the lantern flickered a few times before going completely dark.
The Cicins, now disoriented, hovered in confusion for a few moments before slowly drifting back down into the unlit lantern, entering a dormant state.
But even with the Mist Grass Wick taken away, the Electro Cicin Mage showed no signs of backing down.
Instead, she jerked her head back—and attempted to slam into Bai Luo with a headbutt.
However, Bai Luo reacted swiftly, blocking the attack before pinning her down onto the nearby bed.
Feeling the force pressing down on her, the Electro Cicin Mage bit her lip.
Faint purple electro energy surged through the circuit-like markings on her back, gathering at her spine.
She was trying to self-destruct.
Before the lightning could consume her entirely, countless images flashed through her mind.
Her childhood friend, Katarina.
Back at the House of the Hearth, Katarina and Lyudochka used to fight with her over toys all the time.
And there was that handsome boy they once argued over.
She had never imagined that she would fail to complete her mission in Inazuma.
That she would never rise through the ranks as she had once hoped.
Speaking of that, she suddenly remembered the new recruit she met in Inazuma Forest.
She wondered how he was doing now.
If nothing unexpected had happened… he was either dead or, like herself, working undercover in some other faction.
His face… it was perfect for an infiltrator.
If she ever had the chance to meet him again, she would definitely tell him…
That the jam he gave her was sweet.
Sweeter than Sunsettias.
Clang—
The Reverse Blade Sword slid back into its sheath.
A sharp, piercing sound rang in the Electro Cicin Mage's ears—disrupting the electro energy she had nearly finished gathering.
The surging electricity scattered throughout the room, filling the air with a tingling sensation.
Despair.
Nothing but despair.
She had never imagined that this self-destruction technique, something even the "Knave" had no way of stopping, would be neutralized in a single move.
"If you want to die, at least wait until we finish reminiscing first… Ksenia."
Bai Luo smiled as he removed his mask—
Revealing a face Ksenia knew all too well.
"Bai Luo?!"
. . . . .
