Chapter 285: Chapter 285

Jade Chamber, the residence of Ningguang, the Tianquan of Liyue Qixing, is a place often visited by the most influential figures or prominent merchants in Liyue.

Whenever a significant decision needs to be made, Ningguang seals the Jade Chamber, ensuring no interruptions. Only her three most trusted secretaries are permitted to stay and assist her in processing information and making decisions.

At this moment, the Jade Chamber, floating above Mt. Tianheng, is once again sealed. Inside, Ningguang stands before a board covered in white paper slips, her expression heavy with contemplation.

"Baishi, Baiwen, Baixiao, what do you think I should choose?"

Ningguang's puzzled voice broke the silence, causing her three secretaries to glance at one another before looking at the board full of notes. They exchanged uneasy glances, and Baiwen whispered to Baishi.

"Ever since Li's arrival, Ningguang seems… different. She's not like her usual self. Didn't she mention an incredible business opportunity this month? But in the blink of an eye, she handed it over to Li with a smile."

Baishi's cheeks flushed slightly, and she swayed a little as she replied, "I understand Ningguang's feelings. After all, Li is so adorable, so captivating, just like Ningguang herself."

Her voice grew more animated. "Every day, I can't stop thinking about Ningguang's elegance and attire. And imagining Li wearing the outfits I carefully selected for her… she would undoubtedly be the most beautiful girl in the world! If only I could help her change clothes—I'd even take on a god if necessary!"

"Enough!"

Baixiao lightly tapped the two on their heads and turned to Ningguang, who was still focused on the board.

With a respectful bow, Baixiao said softly, "Ningguang, you need not worry so much. I'm certain that anything you personally choose will bring joy to Li."

"Li cherishes you deeply, after all."

Ningguang nodded at Baixiao's words. She opened her folding fan with a graceful flick and said, "You're right. Perhaps I am overthinking. This is the first time Li has invited me to accompany her, and it's to visit Master Zhou."

Her gaze softened. "But Li is such a thoughtful and delightful child. No matter what I choose, she will surely be happy."

She turned to her secretaries, determination in her eyes. "Prepare one of everything on the list. As for Master Zhou's gift, is everything ready?"

"Yes!" The three bowed in unison, and Baixiao replied, "Please rest assured, Ningguang. We've already prepared Master Zhou's gift in advance."

Satisfied, Ningguang nodded and turned her gaze toward the distance, where Stone Gate lay.

Long ago, in the lands of Liyue, there was a poor little girl. Struggling to survive and fill her belly, she learned how to earn money at a young age. Barefoot and dressed in tattered clothes, she carried her wares from Liyue Harbor, trekking across Tianheng Mountain, Guili Plains, Yaoguang Shoal, and Dihua Marsh, eventually reaching Stone Gate.

She braved danger and exhaustion, wandering the vast land of Liyue, protected by her wits and the Millelith. But one fateful day, while foraging for wild fruit on Wuwang Hill to save money, she encountered a life-threatening crisis.

A group of hilichurls had discovered her, and she was surrounded by mighty hilichurl brutes and their kin. They were ready to turn her into their next meal. Wuwang Hill, desolate and unprotected by the Millelith, seemed to spell her doom.

In her moment of despair, the old man who had once allowed her to set up her stall beside his saved her. With nothing but a sharpened wooden stick, he swiftly dispatched the monsters, rescuing the terrified girl. He placed a warm hand on her head, his kind, aged face bringing her comfort as he carried her to safety.

Afterward, he prepared her a delicious bowl of noodles and sternly scolded her for her recklessness. Had he not noticed her unusual path and followed her, she would have been the monsters' lunch.

Tears streamed down her cheeks as she obediently listened to his reprimand, sipping the warm broth in small gulps.

Now, that little girl has grown into Ningguang, a woman who stands at the pinnacle of wealth, unmatched by almost anyone in the world. Yet the old man remains the same, quietly tending his tea stand at the entrance to Stone Gate, offering weary travelers a moment of respite.

Gritting her teeth, Ningguang's voice carried a hint of frustration. "That stubborn old man! I've told him countless times to stop staying out there. He doesn't need to work; I can take care of him. But he's as obstinate as ever!"

"Even with his skills as a martial artist, his strength is gone, and he's not young anymore. What if something happens to him?!"

Behind her, the three secretaries exchanged knowing glances, pretending not to hear. Despite her outward frustration and her switch from calling him "Grandpa Zhou" to "Old Man Zhou," they knew Ningguang's concern ran deep. They quietly followed her orders to bring him gifts regularly, knowing how much she valued him.

After a moment, Baiwen stepped forward. "Ningguang, since you've decided, we'll prepare everything immediately."

"Good."

Straightening her posture, Ningguang turned to the board filled with notes. After a moment's hesitation, she removed the slips, crumpling them into her hand.

Standing by the window, she gazed down at the grand city of Liyue below, a faint smile gracing her lips.

Once a hungry little girl, she now stood atop the world's wealth. Her dream, born on the wild plains, was slowly becoming reality. One day, her Jade Chamber would soar above all seven nations, and she would become the wealthiest woman in the world.

Perhaps then, people might even call her the Goddess of Wealth.
