Chapter 477: Chapter 477: Level Up (2-in-1 Chapter)
Beast Realm – Territory of the Shadow Bears.
The "Lumine's Sword God" had scouted several hundred kilometers outward and finally encountered another nest of Beast Realm creatures.
This time, it was a type of monster that resembled bees—except each one was about the size of a fist.
Their levels ranged from Level 5 to 15, with the stronger ones reaching up to Level 20.
Though they weren't particularly powerful, they were extremely numerous.
A massive beehive held thousands—perhaps tens of thousands—of these bee-like monsters. Clearing it would yield a generous amount of Adventure EXP.
Nolan's character panel already showed 700,000 EXP. He needed 240,000 more to level up.
Hmm… if the "Lumine's Sword God" could wipe out this hive, that should just about do it.
As he held Keqing and Hu Tao in his arms, that was the thought running through Nolan's mind.
Without any hesitation, he had the "Lumine's Sword God" initiate the attack. After all, the creatures had already opened a spatial rift—one that likely led to Teyvat.
It was better to eliminate them quickly before they could cause any havoc in Teyvat.
At that very moment, Keqing—realizing she couldn't escape no matter how hard she struggled—finally began to calm down.
Her expression still held a faint blush and visible displeasure.
Shameless bully, picking on girls!
When she noticed Nolan looking at her, she huffed coldly, turned her face away, and cursed him again in her heart.
"If you don't let go soon, how long are you planning to keep hugging? Keep it up and I'll bite your ear off!"
Hu Tao pulled away from his neck, glaring at Nolan with clear annoyance.
Ahem, alright…" Nolan awkwardly released both girls. He had to admit—it was getting a bit excessive.
"You… you jerk! Are you this rude to every girl you meet?!"
The moment Keqing was free, she stormed away from his embrace and furiously grabbed his cheeks with both hands, yanking them outward!
"Ugh—mercy! I'm sorry, I was wrong!"
Nolan grabbed Keqing's smooth wrists and mumbled as he tried to get her to let go.
But Keqing had finally caught him off guard—there was no way she'd let him off easy. She was determined to get her revenge!
"Serves you right!"
Hu Tao crossed her arms beside them, clearly enjoying the show.
Nolan could only resign himself to being manhandled. Honestly, it didn't hurt much—it felt more like a face massage.
His attention soon drifted back to the "Lumine's Sword God" in the Beast Realm. Under his control, she had already encased the entire beehive and the spatial rift in a golden barrier formed from her sword aura.
It even formed a smaller golden sphere around the rift itself—just to be sure nothing could escape.
The monsters, sensing danger, began to buzz loudly, beating their wings at high speed and revealing gleaming, black stingers at their tails.
These stingers were laced with Corrosion Power, capable of eroding even the fabric of space itself.
Though they couldn't open a new rift immediately, the bee monsters launched themselves like bullets toward the spatial rift area.
Using their corrosion-infused stingers, they began furiously stabbing at the golden sword barrier.
Normally, these small creatures shouldn't have been able to damage Nolan's protective shield at all.
But Corrosion Power was a special case—strong enough to erode even space.
Nolan could clearly feel it: his barrier was slowly being worn down by the sheer number of monsters.
At this rate, it would last no more than thirty minutes.
So he didn't waste time. He directed the "Lumine's Sword God" to launch golden sword strikes outside the barrier, aiming at the bee swarm.
The moment the sword auras manifested, they blinked through space and reappeared beside the horde.
They moved in silence.
And every bee monster in their path was cleanly sliced in half—some horizontally, including wings, others from head to tail along with their inky black stingers.
His character panel lit up with notification after notification:
Adventure EXP +122
Adventure EXP +98
Adventure EXP +145
...
Most of these bee monsters weren't very strong, and the EXP from individual kills was small—but the sheer number of them made up for it.
All in all, the Adventure EXP gain was considerable.
Nolan grinned as he continued commanding the Sword God's attacks.
Keqing, noticing that he was smiling while she was still pinching his face, felt thoroughly provoked. Her fingers dug in harder.
Then she channeled a bit of her Electro Element, and a crackling "zzzzzt" sound emerged.
"—Tch! I'm numb! Totally numb! Let go, let go!"
Nolan inhaled sharply, gently patting her arm in surrender.
"You think I'd actually believe you?"
Keqing, with her twin tails and cat-ear hairstyle, finally felt satisfied—like she had gotten sweet revenge at last.
She knew very well that a bit of lightning like that wouldn't really do much to someone like Nolan, the shameless jerk.
He was just putting on an act.
But what she really wanted was for him to show some humility—so after pinching him for a few more seconds, Keqing finally let go and huffed:
"Let's see if you still dare act so rude to me next time!"
"I'll still dare next time…" Nolan muttered under his breath while rubbing his slightly reddened cheeks, trying to sound defiant.
But for someone like Keqing, who had sharp senses, even the quietest muttering didn't escape her. Her elegant eyebrows rose as she reached toward his face again.
Nolan moved fast this time—he darted behind Hu Tao and coughed lightly in surrender:
"I was joking just now! How could I possibly be rude to you? To make it up to you, let me give you a gift."
"If you ever run into trouble in the future, just call me. I'll handle it for you!"
Seeing that Keqing no longer looked like she wanted to punch him, he stepped out from behind Hu Tao and took out a "Waymark," placing it in front of her.
"Hmph." Keqing crossed her arms with a tsundere flair and gave a light snort, her gaze landing curiously on the golden orb.
"What is this?"
"A special ability," Nolan explained briefly.
After listening, Keqing looked surprised. Her fair face showed a flicker of astonishment as she crossed her arms under her chest and remarked:
"Something this valuable… you're just giving it to me?"
An ability that allowed instant teleportation and real-time communication—clearly, this was something extremely rare. And he was just handing it over…
"Aiya, just take it. This guy's already given a bunch of them to other girls!"
Hu Tao helpfully chimed in, spilling the details of how many girls had received one of these "Waymark" from Nolan:
"When I used it to teleport to Mondstadt, it sent me straight to a girl named Amber. In Inazuma, it was Yoimiya."
"And besides those two, there are plenty of other girls in those regions he can teleport to."
"In short, this guy's given out so many of these things that it's not even worth counting. Don't go thinking it's some rare, precious gift."
"If you start feeling all grateful to him for it, you'll be falling right into his trap. The right thing to do is accept it like you deserve it."
"And if this guy dares act rudely toward you again, don't hold back—just beat him up like usual!"
"So that's how it is… You two-timing bastard. Can't you have a hobby that isn't chasing girls? Do you really like women that much?"
Keqing gave Nolan a look full of disdain.
She finally saw him for what he really was—a shameless pervert, through and through!
Nolan awkwardly tugged at his sleeve and retorted, "Well, don't you like me? I like you."
Who cared which girl a playboy claimed to like!
Keqing's face flushed a faint red at his words. She snatched the Waymark from him and changed the subject:
"Hmph, I'll reluctantly forgive you this time!"
[Keqing Has Developed Good Feelings Towards You, Obtained 320 Affection Points. Current Affection Level: Lv.8 (200/800)]
Seeing the prompt pop up on his character panel, Nolan knew—he'd finally won Keqing over.
Heh… Just wait. I'll show you what truly "rude" behavior means…
While Nolan was mentally scheming and Hu Tao was explaining to Keqing how to use the Waymark, the battle in the Beast Realm was coming to a close.
Although the demon-bees of the Beast Realm had the ability to corrode the "Lumine's Sword God's" golden barrier, the strength of that Corrosion Power…
…was directly linked to their individual strength.
If they'd had a Golden King Beast among them, perhaps the barrier would've fallen faster. But at their current levels—most around Level 10, with the highest in the 30s or 40s at best—
Before they could even wear down the barrier, they had all been completely wiped out.
Just like now—the beast realm demon-bees had been nearly wiped out.
The last remaining one, a demon-bee king the size of a human head, made one final, unwilling charge against the golden barrier. When that failed, it was sliced clean in two by a burst of sword energy.
[Defeated A Powerful Enemy. Obtained 605 Adventure EXP.]
A prompt appeared at just the right time on the character panel. Nolan glanced at his stats again:
[Adventure EXP: 1,058,351]
His EXP had grown from 700,000 to over a million—an increase of around 300,000.
It seemed the number of those bees had truly been massive.
Assuming each one gave about 150 Adventure EXP, that meant there had to be over two thousand of them.
If those things had made it to Teyvat, it would've been incredibly dangerous. Thankfully, they were dealt with in advance.
Come to think of it—one hive alone gave 300,000 Adventure EXP. If he ran into a few more of those, wouldn't his level skyrocket?
With that exciting thought in mind, Nolan eagerly controlled the Lumine's Sword God to continue exploring.
He'd been exploring the Beast Realm for quite a while already, and the area he had covered extended about 500–600 kilometers outward from the initial shadow-bear territory.
It was an immense region, but the number of beast-realm creatures he'd encountered so far wasn't particularly high.
This low creature density was likely due to the harsh environment of the realm. It also hinted that the Beast Realm itself was vast—full of things worth discovering and digging into.
With that in mind, Nolan didn't bother saving up his Adventure EXP. He poured them straight into leveling up.
Adventure EXP - 940,000
Lv94 (0/940000) → Lv95 (0/950000)
A familiar warm current surged through his body. Every cell felt like parched earth soaking in long-awaited rain, devouring the energy eagerly.
That energy then pushed his body to evolve further, growing stronger in an instant—he was now Level 95.
Just five levels left. Less than five million EXP and he'd reach Level 100.
What kind of transformation will come then...?
Nolan couldn't help but feel excited.
"What are you zoning out for? Let's go find Shenhe in the core of the formation. Time to keep her company while she works!"
Hu Tao, having just finished teaching Keqing how to use Interstellar Travel, poked his stomach with her fair finger.
"Uh, right."
Nolan snapped out of his post-level-up daze and turned to Keqing.
"So, wanna come with us?"
"No way, you two-timing scoundrel. I'm going to talk to Ningguang about something else!"
Keqing had just integrated the Waymark and could now sense the presence of other girls who had one. Including herself, there were twenty of them.
A total womanizer! She didn't want anything more to do with him.
She shot Nolan a displeased glare, then turned and strode away, her soft legs wrapped in sleek black stockings.
Since Keqing had her own business to attend to, Nolan simply smiled and didn't bother stopping her.
After that, he and Hu Tao went to find one of Ningguang's secretaries—Baishi—and asked her to escort them to the formation core.
Apparently Ningguang had given prior notice, because Baishi didn't refuse.
Instead, she cheerfully led them both downward to the formation's central chamber, located on a lower level.
It could be reached via a central staircase.
Before long, the two of them arrived at the formation's heart. Inside sat Shenhe, her long silver-white hair flowing as she quietly meditated.
After all, her role here was just to monitor the array. Unless something went wrong, there wasn't much for her to do.
The formation rarely had issues, but today's banquet required use of the teleportation function to transport guests—just in case something went wrong, Shenhe was stationed here as a safeguard. Normally, one of Ningguang's secretaries would occasionally check on things.
Baishi still had work to do, so she left. Hu Tao waved at Shenhe and greeted her with a smile:
"Hey, Shenhe! Long time no see!"
"Long time no see," Shenhe replied with a nod, opening her eyes and turning her gaze to Nolan.
"You seem stronger again."
"Been out adventuring a lot—it's a kind of training too," Nolan chuckled.
Shenhe had recently been helping Ganyu with her secretarial duties at Yuehai Pavilion, so he hadn't seen her in a while.
Still, thanks to the Waymark, they chatted often.
"How's the work? Getting used to it?"
Nolan and Hu Tao sat down beside her and entered full-on chat mode—this was, in a way, how they did their "work" with Shenhe.
"It's going well. Senior sister takes good care of me—she's taught me a lot."
Shenhe shuffled a little closer, sat next to Nolan, and wrapped her arms around his, curiously asking:
"You seem to really like this sort of thing?"
She often saw him with other girls, always hugging or clinging to them, so she figured she shouldn't be an exception.
"Of course I do."
Nolan let her hold onto his arm and nodded lightly with a smile.
"Good." Shenhe's fair face showed a soft smile.
