Genius Regressor Makes Mythic Items

Chapter 189 - Desert on the Scale (3)

Like the Obsidian Tablet or perhaps like the Emerald Tablet, a book composed of yellow and gray stone tablets spun on Shimun’s fingertip. The gaze of the colossal beast, too vast to fully perceive, was fixated on Shimun.

Grrr.

The massive creature’s eyes bore into Shimun, who held the stone tablet-like book.

Whoooo.

Even the act of staring emanated a tremendous pressure.

In reality,

“Huff, huff!”

Leoni, standing back with a shield of aura, could barely breathe and trembled uncontrollably.

However,

『You are receiving maximum favor of Death.』

『You resist the presence of the beast of Duat, Ammit.』

The very cause of the beast’s appearance, Shimun, saw the message and,

“Amazing.”

He looked up at Ammit with eyes filled with awe.

‘I didn’t feel this from watching the broadcast in my past life. Seeing it in person is something else.’

The beast of Duat, Ammit. It had the head of a lion mixed with a hippopotamus and crocodile, a creature that was actually a divine entity.

‘Well, it is one of Duat’s goddesses.’

With determined steps, Shimun walked towards the collapsed Leoni.

And as he moved,

Rumble.

A small earthquake followed, the result of Ammit’s gaze shifting slightly with him.

Shimun brought the spinning stone tablet book towards Leoni. Then,

“Phew!”

Like someone suffering from a respiratory condition, Leoni, whose veins bulged as she struggled, finally managed to breathe.

But just barely.

“Kim Shimun… what is that…!”

Was it the shock of facing a divine entity without any form of resistance?

Her usual warrior-like bravery was nowhere to be seen. Shimun handed a vial of potion to the trembling Leoni.

“Drink this. It’ll help.”

“Th-thank you….”

She couldn’t even express her gratitude properly. Shimun gave a gentle smile and turned back towards Ammit.

The minor earthquake from before seemed a distant memory, as the beast of Duat, Ammit, watched him like a statue. With a satisfied look, Shimun glanced at the spinning stone tablet book on his hand.

‘As expected, the Book of the Dead. It’s incredibly effective.’

He looked at the Book of the Dead. In front of Shimun’s eyes,

『Constellation Osiris says with a troubled smile, ‘I didn’t expect to encounter this one before my time came.’』

Osiris’ reaction appeared.

Then,

『Constellation Heavenly Demon, lifting the corners of his mouth, says, ‘What’s the issue? The King of Duat fits the rank perfectly well.’』

『Constellation Zeus nods, ‘An old god-king from the Ennead is more than qualified.’』

『Constellation Odin waves fondly, ‘Long time no see, Osiris.’』

The constellations speculated to be among the kings reacted in sequence. Overall, their responses were favorable. And it was no surprise.

‘Osiris is among the higher-ranking death-related Constellations.’

Osiris, another death-related Constellation, outranked even Hel, the owner of Naglfar, whom Shimun had summoned last time. Comparable to Hades, a high-ranked Constellation. Naturally, Shimun’s Constellations were friendly to him.

All but one.

『Constellation Black Goat eyes Osiris suspiciously, ‘Hmm, Osiris?’』

Only the Black Goat seemed skeptical.

『Constellation Black Goat sends a mischievous look, ‘Hey, Osiris. Do you want to join us?’』

『Constellation Osiris responds with a perplexed smile, ‘I wish I could, but… you know how it is.’』

『Constellation Black Goat bursts into laughter, ‘Oh, of course. That mad dual-personality would never allow it.’』

With Black Goat’s reaction, 『An unknown Constellation sends a deeply displeased gaze.』

An unidentified Constellation’s response appeared.

『Constellation Black Goat snickers, ‘Speak of the devil, and he shall appear.’』

『The unknown Constellation glares at Black Goat.』

『Constellation Black Goat taunts, ‘You mad? Why’d you hand over the Book of the Dead then?’』

『Constellation Heavenly Demon chuckles, ‘He probably handed it over because managing Duat is a hassle.’』

『Constellation Baal nods with a smug smile, ‘Hmm.’』

Shimun’s Constellations mocked the unknown one.

『The unknown Constellation clenches in anger.』

Apparently, it enraged him quite a bit.

『The unknown Constellation glares at you with burning eyes.』

The glare of the unknown Constellation shifted towards Shimun. And it wasn’t just a message.

Groar!

Ammit, who had been still as a statue, let out a wary growl.

Rumble.

The entire monochrome desert and dark sky shook violently.

And above that sky,

Crack.

A massive, dark purple rift appeared, as if blending a void and a black hole. Looking through Odin’s Eye, Shimun realized it wasn’t just a void or black hole.

‘An eye?’

It was a colossal eye so enormous that even the beast Ammit seemed tiny in comparison. And the presence it exuded was overwhelming.

“Gah!”

Leoni, who was behind Shimun, coughed up blood and collapsed onto the sand.

“Leoni!”

Startled, Shimun immediately rushed to her side.

『Constellation Black Goat fiercely yells, ‘Stop it, you fool! If she dies, our child’s mission fails!’』

『Constellation Heavenly Demon clicks his tongue, ‘Haha! You’re still just a brat. Interfering so openly.’』

Shimun’s Constellations berated the unknown Constellation. They weren’t the only ones.

『Galaxy Arena does not permit intervention from Constellations without causality.』

『Please participate through proper causality and procedure.』

A message floated in the air. The Galaxy Arena, too, issued a polite warning to the unknown Constellation. However, as if to prove the statements of the Constellations, despite the intervention from the Constellations and the Arena,

Rumble!!

The dark purple eye in the sky grew even more menacing.

The beast of Duat, Ammit, despite being a divine entity,

Groar…

Trembled pathetically, its massive body shaking.

Shimun looked down at the heaving Leoni in his arms with concerned eyes.

“Cough!”

‘This is dangerous.’

Leoni was now vomiting blood. Considering she had already consumed a top-rank healing potion, She must be in a state where it wouldn’t be surprising if she died any moment now. Shimun quickly assessed the situation.

‘Unlike Leoni, I don’t feel any significant pressure.’

This meant that the unknown Constellation had a considerable amount of favor towards him. Additionally, ‘Judging from the reactions of the other Constellations…’

The mysterious Constellation likely wanted to form some sort of relationship with him, similar to the Constellations in the Kings’ Pick. And the nature of that relationship was evident.

“I promise to create related artifacts in the future. Please calm down for now.”

Shimun spoke to the enormous eye as if it were about to swallow the desert. As if the intensity of the situation had been a lie, the chaotic world suddenly stilled.

Then,

『Constellation ? says, ‘You’ve promised. (Don’t you dare break it, or I’ll obliterate your dimension!)’ staring intently at you.』

The response from the unknown Constellation appeared.

“Of course.”

Shimun nodded towards the sky.

Then,

『Constellation ? smiles very satisfactorily.』

Sssss.

The colossal, dark purple eye gradually shrank and vanished, signifying the end of its influence.

『Constellation Zeus clicks his tongue, ‘Tch. Despite being a primeval god, such a lack of dignity…’』

『Constellation Odin pouts, ‘Now you can’t call me a kid anymore, can you?’』

『Constellation Baal shaking his head sighs, ‘Hmm…’』

Shimun’s Constellations reacted with incredulity.

『Constellation Osiris speaks carefully, ‘Well then, Great-Grandfather. May I continue observing?’ he ventures carefully.』

『Constellation ? responds, ‘Move aside. (Get lost!)’ grabbing Osiris by the scruff and tossing him.』

‘What on earth…’

Osiris, suddenly ejected, left Shimun momentarily stunned.

‘Well, since he seems to outrank Osiris, it shouldn’t be a problem.’

Shimun quickly shook off his confusion and,

Snap.

he created a bed from the surrounding sand to lay the gasping Leoni down.

Then,

“Ammit.”

He turned to call the beast of Duat, Ammit.

Though he didn’t know the exact reason,

Groar!

unlike its initial entrance, Ammit flinched and looked down at Shimun with wary eyes, even glancing at the sky where the dark purple eye had appeared.

Shimun held out the spinning Book of the Dead on his hand.

“You know what this is, right?”

Groan.

Ammit nodded slightly.

“I swear on this. While it’s true I committed ten murders, there was a justified reason for it.”

Shimun continued addressing Ammit.

“From the accumulating karma, it’s clear that no sin should have been committed here, correct?”

Groan.

Ammit nodded again.

“However, due to someone’s scheme, I was forced to commit ten unwanted sins. I declare my innocence.”

Shimun looked into Ammit’s eyes, conveying his grievance.

‘Lying to Ammit won’t work.’

Like most divine beings, facing it directly made deceit nearly impossible.

As expected,

Ssss.

Ammit’s eyes darkened as it examined Shimun. It was discerning the truth. Shimun met Ammit’s gaze unwaveringly, his eyes filled with sincerity.

Then,

Ssss.

Ammit’s eyes softened. It had confirmed the truth.

‘It worked.’

A small smile formed on Shimun’s lips.

‘There’s no way it could be a lie. I was only targeting the strong ones for high points, not those small fries.’

From the moment he was matched in the Desert on the Scale, Shimun had followed a strategy of targeting only the strong.

Naturally, he wasn’t lying.

And now, having proven his grievance,

“With my innocence recognized, shouldn’t the true culprit behind this wicked scheme be punished?”

It was time to wield this justification.

Groar!

With firm justification, the Book of the Dead, and even the daunting gaze of the mysterious Constellation, Ammit couldn’t help but agree with Shimun.

“Whoever planned this scheme must be one of the teams in this desert.”

And even if Shimun added more to his speech, “Those who stood by and did nothing… they are all equally guilty, aren’t they?”

There was no reason it wouldn’t be convincing.

“So, I ask you to punish everyone here.”

Thus,

GRAAAAR!!

The enraged judge began to move.

***

The deafening roar that shook the monochrome desert, “What the hell is happening!”

Kruna, despite her prestigious dragon lineage, trembled in fear.

“Why was Ammit just standing still, and now it’s going berserk? And what was that eye earlier!”

“I-I don’t know either.”

Berunkel, also a dragonkin, was similarly perplexed.

“That Kim Shimun or whatever must’ve achieved 10 kills, hence Ammit’s appearance, right?”

“Probably.”

“Then why is Ammit attacking random places instead of Kim Shimun?”

Kruna pointed towards a distant area close to the horizon.

There,

Boom!

A giant paw, akin to a mountain, crashed down.

Like a colossal meteor striking, the sand rippled like waves from the powerful tremors.

Crack.

Kruna immediately transformed into her true form, taking to the air.

“Hurry, get on!”

She extended her wings, merged with her arms, towards Berunkel.

“Got it!”

Berunkel, now in his true form with a reptilian head and muscular physique, quickly climbed onto her back.

Flap.

Wings larger than those of a small airplane flapped. Though they ascended to safety in the air, Kruna and Berunkel’s faces darkened further.

The reason was clear.

“Insane!”

“Hmm.”

The desert, left in a state resembling a sandstorm around the impact of Ammit’s stomp, stretched across the entire desert.

This implied that a single stomp from Ammit affected the entire Desert on the Scale.

The bigger problem was,

Roooar!

It was far from over.

Crack.

With a ferocious roar, Ammit raised its mountain-like fist,

And then,

Boom!

Striking another area with all its might.

As the sandstorm rippled again, Kruna’s eyes quivered with unease.

“Why isn’t Ammit stopping? Could it be that Kim Shimun is still alive?”

“That’s highly likely. He’s probably evading using spatial abilities.”

“That makes no sense! With ten stacks, his stats should be reduced by 100%!”

Even walking should be near impossible, let alone spatial movement?!

Kruna shouted in disbelief. Berunkel, sharing her sentiments, said, “You know as well as I do that Ammit does not stop until the ten-stacked sinner is punished.”

He looked nervously at the spots where Ammit’s fist had struck.

“He must be using artifacts or something to flee. That’s the most likely scenario. No, it must be that.”

“But Berunkel. If that isn’t…”

“It has to be!!”

Berunkel roared back, voice filled with disbelief. He clenched his stone-like lower lip tightly.

“If it isn’t, then… we’re!”

Kruna already knew the rest of his unspoken sentence. Her trembling wings showed her anxiety.

And as usual, “It’s you two, isn’t it?”

Her bad premonition was spot on.

“No one but dragonkin would dare do something like this to me.”

A sudden voice reached them.

“Who’s there!”

Kruna immediately turned towards the direction of the voice.

There stood, “Who else?”

Gleaming golden wings fluttering at his ankles.

“The one you desperately wanted to screw over.”

A handsome young man with a sly smile. Kruna and Berunkel’s eyes widened in shock.

“Kim Shimun!”

“You! How are you still alive!”

Shimun didn’t bother to answer.

“Ammit! Over here~! These guys are the main culprits!”

Clasping his hands together, he shouted towards the retreating Ammit.

Groan!

Ammit’s ferocious gaze shifted towards them, filled with rage.

“Th-that crazy bastard!”

“How are you even talking to Ammit?”

The two dragonkin were utterly shocked.

Then,

“Kruna!”

Berunkel shouted urgently.

“I know!”

Flap.

Kruna flapped her wings and tried to escape.

But, “Hold on. Where do you think you’re going?”

Shimun, with the golden wings on his ankles fluttering, blocked their path.

“I even paused my broadcast for a moment. Shouldn’t you explain why you did this?”

However, “Spare me the nonsense!”

Berunkel roared, thrusting a massive spear.

“If you’re curious, find out inside my stomach!”

Kruna’s eyes gleamed with killing intent as she opened her huge mouth wide. The two fully transformed superior dragonkin launched a combined attack.

Hummm.

Their prowess reflected in the spear and teeth, creating a formidable onslaught.

But, “You guys seem to have misunderstood something.”

Shimun still wore a sly smile.

“This isn’t a request.”

His left eye slit open wide. At the same time, “That eye!”

“The eye of the king!”

The fierce charge of the two dragonkin came to an abrupt halt.

Then, “Oh, two dragon lords? So that’s why Semi-Arena advanced by half a year? How amusing. You’ve worked hard.”

Shimun chuckled softly, giving a small, mocking laugh.

“Thanks for the information. Now then.”

Above the immobilized dragonkin, “Farewell.”

Boom!

The great cataclysm of Duat, represented by Ammit, descended upon them.

TL’s Corner:
Wow Ra did Osiris dirty. Also I say Ra, because Osiris’ great-grandfather is Ra in Egyptian Mythology.
