Jonas Hawke had always thought being late for class was the worst thing that could happen on a Monday morning—until he fell through a portal into another world. The day had started like any other, a quick breakfast, a rushed shower, and a sprint across campus to make his 8 a.m. lecture. Life, as he knew it, was predictable. Tedious, even. But when he is suddenly pulled through a rift and thrust into Ilvorya, fantasy becomes his new reality. Here, nothing is as simple as it seems. The world is ruled by a LitRPG system that defines power, but even that power can corrupt.

With nothing but the clothes on his back and the title of "Novice Warrior" hanging over his head, Jonas is faced with impossible choices. Does he walk the path of light, defending a world he barely understands? Or does he give in to the seductive pull of the rifts, unlocking unimaginable strength while losing his humanity in the process?
