Gate Hunters

Chapter #13 Blue Moon

(??? Point of view)

"Leave her alone, please stop it da-" as I tried to interrupt my father's onslaughts against my mother.

Instead, I received a heavy punch from him.

Each punch he connected felt like dynamite exploding inside my body.

My father picked up my leg and tossed me towards the wall. "You disappoint me, you know that. How can you be my son and not even defeat me in combat? Is my wife not teaching you anything?" He took the time to light up a cigar and walked towards my mother.

She was frozen stiff with tears running down her face. "And as we agreed, every month I will meet with our child one-on-one to assess his suitability for the family business. Yet, he is still losing... Why is he losing against me?" He viciously grabbed my mother by her hair and pulled it extremely hard to the point that it looked like he was about to rip her hair off.

"WAIT, PLEASE! I'm sorry. I did my best, but every time I tried, he didn't improve. I don't understand your supernatural power, and I'm just a normal human. Please let go." Mother continued to scream as Father continued to pull on her hair, and as well as started pressing his lit cigar against her cheeks.

He let go of her without giving her a one-missive right hook against the head, "I feel that our relationship could use some improvement, Jade. If I don't see any progress next month on the fifth of March. Let's consider having another child."

Father walked away from her and towards me.

"Amari, I better see some improvement by next month," Father said before leaving, spitting on my face.

Leaving my wounded body and unconscious mother to submit to his ruling.

My family history is complex and filled with pain and suffering. Out of all the nine brothers and sisters I have, I inherited his innate ability, Herculean Blood.

The power that made Father the number three Hunter of Neon City and Vice Chairman of the GEA.

Using the surroundings, I managed to muster the strength to lift myself up and unsteadily make my way over to my mother. As I did so, I whispered to her, "Mother...I will become stronger."

I gently picked her up and carried her to her bedroom, then I placed her in bed and gave her a soft hug. "I'm sorry that I'm not strong enough. I will find a way to get stronger by any means. So please, don't worry about me," I said. After that, I left my mother's bedroom and entered the bathroom to wash away the blood.

Afterward, I dressed in my raiding outfit: a tight green sleeveless shirt, loose white pants, and white combat boots.

I made sure to lock the door before leaping out of the window to ensure nobody else could come in.

Currently, I need to find a Gate, regardless if it's booked. I am determined to continue my training in solitude, as I know it will help me improve my strength.

I know that I should be taking care of my mother at the moment but if I don't get stronger, I won't be able to free her for my father.

Currently, I have gained a small amount of reputation as the local hunter known as Evergreen. I mostly specialize in wind and, on some occasions, fire Gates, but now I'm trying to focus on water and earth Gates.

I've been doing this for so long that I don't even remember the day I started... who am I kidding, I do remember. It was the day my father put all nine of my siblings in one gate, and we had to seal it ourselves.

We were all ten years old at the time, and that was actually the very first time we had ever met each other. All ten of us shared the same story: our father was a super successful hunter and a very powerful man who had about ten different women as his mistresses.

Each woman was from different ethics so he could produce an heir to see which race could create a successful hunter.

I was born in the southern African borders where my mother encountered him. David Williams also known as Caesar the order hunter.

After I was born, my father offered my mother the chance to live a better life in the city, where she could have everything, she had ever dreamed of. According to my mother, our village was not the best place to live because we were facing food and water shortages, and there was no protection from the dangers surrounding us.

She clearly accepted it. But at the cost of her own freedom.

When it was discovered that I had the same ability as my father, he basically chose me over the others.

Every single day I spent working hard and harder just to at least grasp his level, yet I simply could not reach it.

"CHECK IT OUT, IT'S EVERGREEN!" exclaimed a group of onlookers as they watched me gracefully leap from rooftop to rooftop.

I flashed my trademark smile and waved. The smiles of the people somehow made me forget about the painful experience I was going through.

I noticed a big crowd of people which meant there was a Gate nearby.

To my surprise, it was a dark blue Gate. One of the hardest types of Gates you can ever find in this world and only the strongest hunters can ever enter these types of gates.

It seems foolish and my body has every right to tell me to pick another one, but I need to get stronger.

Whatever is inside is most likely will be a good challenge for me.

So as God as my witness, I pray that I will come out alive and see my mother smile again.

When I landed among the group, I slowly made my way through the gate, listening to the crowd roaring my name, which filled me with confidence.

Once inside I noticed a few things...the giant blue moon and a creature waiting for something to come in.

It stands above me, towering like a predator watching its prey walk freely within its domain.

A humanoid creature with wings of an angel from the books of God. A face that couldn't even resemble a human but couldn't resemble a monster. Its entire body was purely white, and its figure was not a man or woman.

Around me, there was nothing but water but for some odd reason, I was able to walk on it.

That's when the creature let out a massive cry that caused something to emerge from the water.

Whatever that thing is, it wants to test me to see if I'm worthy of fighting it.

Well then, I'll prove it.

To it no to everyone that I am worthy.

I took a deep breath and said one simple phrase: "Herculean Blood, hear my call." My entire body was coated in a gentle green aura as the ground slowly started to grow some vegetation in response to my aura.
