Part 13 : Cops Day - Part 1

So far, the operation has gone more smoothly than we expected when planning…

 

That usually should be a thing to commemorate. Still, the reason we have such a high succession rate in battles and so few casualties is due to outside interference.

 

It's irritating in a way even, every time I engage in a battle a strange feminine chuckle echoes out from seemingly nowhere before the monster ant I should be dealing with just gets completely torn to pieces by something.

 

And to get things even more rampant, Jane had returned and explained who she thought might be the one who was responsible for all this Chaos.

 

She was digging for some files from another criminal group that had contacts with an unknown supplier, this supplier was who we should be after according to her.

 

Said person was a man who was once called a genius, but it seems that his own search to develop further evolution of humanity led him down a dark path.

 

Though I do feel something was off about Jane herself… She did fight alongside me in one occasion, and she too was aware of the chuckle that appeared out of nowhere.

 

But different from myself, she just laughed, calling whoever it was ‘ devilish ‘. When inquired about what she meant, all Jane reported was that she found it quite playful from the other party…

 

Something is undoubtedly suspicious about this, but she had to answer yet another one of the numerous calls from monsters we were having. And now I'm driving towards the actual last report we had of an enormous ant roaming the streets.

 

Except that, this time, my partner had finished her own designed sectors and was able to join me.

 

“ Qinqyi, are you seriously not worried about that possible vigilante? From what you're going on about the psychology behind all of their actions… You appear to be seeing them in quite the high regard…” 

 

I know she is very wise, but I still can't accept something like a vigilante! Because there are so many opportunities these days to fight off criminals and monsters in both Public Security or even Legal Heroes.

 

Going around alone similar to that woman is extremely dangerous, even if she does have quite the power. One wrong step, and she wouldn't have anyone's support to back her up.

 

Eventually resulting in a premature death.

 

“ Hmm… It's more of a review and evaluation of their current behavior. They have secured the lives of countless officers and heroes who by this point should have perished fighting against these ants.

 

The Hero Association foolishly underestimated the Monster Ants by deploying so many B-Ranks. And currently this so-called - Gap Demon -, is voluntarily doing everyone a big favor and saving anyone that catches her eyes.”

 

Keeping my eyes on the road while turning to another street, even without looking, I can still feel her unblinking stare on me.

 

“ You should know Zhu Yuan, until something goes horribly wrong resulting in quite a high number of lower-rank heroes dying, The Heroes Association will just about never dispatch S-Ranks.

 

 This time we had a stroke of luck, they sent Victorian Housekeeping, a highly regarded group of A-Ranks.”

 

Crossing her arms, Qinqyi directs her gaze forward towards the road. I can't even say one word against what she brought up…

 

Clenching my hands on the steering wheel, all I can do is deal with the truth as it is.

 

For the Hero Association, as long as a Dragon Class monster doesn't happen to be in the area, the best thing you hope is that an S-Class is passing by or the city you live in happens to be protected by the same…

 

On the other hand, Z-City was always left to fend for itself. I wanted to change that, and help others like they did to me back then…

 

 The further you go in, the more low-income districts the more precarious the situation is shown to be… It was something I was hoping to change…

 

“ Zhu Yuan, stop the truck. I can sense some strange vibrations just a few streets ahead… These appear to be… Steps? ” - Opening the window before I could manage to properly break, Qinqyi grabbed her pole and jumped through the window to be on top of the truck’s hood.

 

Doing my best to slow down, my eyes widen, seeing a giant hand grab above a building about seven floors high a few streets ahead of us. The hand snaps the building to pieces with its titan grip, before an ear-piercing screech comes from behind it.

 

When I realized a chunk of concrete was flying straight for the truck, before even being given the chance to avoid the debris, Qinqyi acted fast and spun her pole, slapping it aside. Breaking it to pieces and saving us just in time.

 

“ Change of plans, it is aware that we're here. Full throttle ahead, soldier.” - I can't tell if that was a joke… But!

 

“ Aye, sir! ” 

 

Accelerating, the building chunks keep on coming as the Qinqyi slams her electrified pole around, breaking them apart or tossing them aside.

 

After a tense couple of seconds, we can finally see the culprit’s full appearance, a particularly horrendous ant about as tall and wide as that seven-floored building. 

 

From the looks of it, it had pushed those debris to our side because it was making use of it to stand back up. Did it slip and fall or something?

 

“ Qinqyi! Can you find the best way to navigate around here? Going forward a few streets from this area, the road will get too tight for a truck this size. “ - Stepping on the gas, I watched as the Kaiju-sized ant appeared to be going to where a more populated part of Z-City was located.

 

Luckily, we should have gotten everyone out-

 

* FAR AWAY HIGH PITCHED SCREAM!!! *

 

The screams didn't necessarily appear to belong to a woman… But the person who did it has quite the vocal range- WAIT WHAT I'M THINKING?!?!? - “ QINGYI! ” 

 

“ On it! Turn the next right and keep going ahead, you should find an alleyway leading straight to where that scream came from. That's where we'll enter on foot, it will save us a lot of time if we just go above the houses from there. “ 

 

 Hopping back into the truck quite quickly, she points to one of the roads I should take.

 

The best I can do is be optimistic so that we get there in time-

 

 “ ZHU YUAN THE BREAKS-” - * USH!!! *

 

Wh-what?! With the Android girl jumping on top of me out of nowhere, we struggle to fit in the same seat in this tight place.

 

Before I knew it, we had gone through a portal full of red eyes that just showed up out of nowhere…. And now we were on a playground…

 

The one who had just screamed… It was hidden behind a tree not far away…. A blonde, tall fully grown man wearing a strange magical girl mask…

 

I already knew who the culprit was…. But all that was left for me to do was sigh, the giant ant was still coming this way if the loud steps were anything to go by.

 

With me and Qinqyi giving each other a look before leaving the truck. Scratching my head I sighed, motioning my head toward the man, my partner looked at him before snapping her head in the ant's overall direction. 

 

She seems to see something in the distance that my eyes can't…

 

Turning around towards the civilian, she waves her hand as if greeting someone…her eyes back into the trembling man… I wonder what she even was seeing, but for now, we have bigger troubles.

 

“ Okay! Qinqyi, let's help him. “ - Walking after her, we needed to know why this citizen was still here!

 

“ Roger that… * whispers * - I believe this should be entertaining enough for your likings, Miss. Gap Demon.”
