Game Of Thrones : Merchant of Two Worlds

Chapter 94: 94. Every family has a hard-to-read scripture

Mom and Dad not only disliked their daughter-in-law but also had little faith in their incompetent son,Lucas. They had worked hard to help him get a job in civil service, hoping he would have a better career than they did. Instead, they felt disappointed by his lack of success.

During this New Year, Jason Liu noticed how tired and worn out his sister and brother-in-law looked when they visited. He couldn't help but sigh, feeling sorry for them. He was just a small employee at his company, barely making enough to support himself, let alone help his sister.

If he were to mention their family's problems, it would only make things worse. Jason often wondered if his family had done something wrong in a past life because their relationships felt so strained and unpleasant in this one. This was one reason he didn't want to spend much time at home.

As he grew up, he realized that every family has its struggles, and that saying had never felt truer.

Unlike his brother, who often brought up family troubles, Liu Wan and Lucas were having dinner while their two kids went to sleep in the other room. Liu Wan and Lucas had gotten married within a few months of meeting, arranged by their parents. There wasn't much love involved—just a bit of mutual affection.

But after six years of living under the pressure of Xu's parents, they had formed a bond out of shared struggles, supporting each other like two people fighting through the same illness.

Lucas was sitting on their bed, leaning against the headboard, looking at pictures of a sports car that Jason Liu had posted on his social media. He was surprised and curious about it.

"Should we call Jason and ask?"Lucas suggested, taking off his glasses. Despite his frustrations, he was a handsome man, which was part of the reason Liu Wan had agreed to marry him.

Liu Wan was at the dressing table, applying a face mask. Without turning around, she replied, "My mom just called me. She's probably more anxious than I am about Jason suddenly buying such an expensive car. She's probably calling him right now!"

Lucas shifted, his excitement showing. "That's a Ferrari F8! That car must cost millions. Jason is really doing well!"

Liu Wan finished putting on her mask and grabbed her phone to check the post. "Yeah, it does look good! No wonder he's so proud of it."

Lucas grinned, "With a car like that, how could it not look amazing? I can't wait to see it in person during the New Year. I want to try it out myself!"

Liu Wan rolled her eyes playfully. "That's my brother's car! If we crash it, we won't be able to afford the repairs!"

Lucas pretended to be shocked. "What do you mean? If I borrow my brother-in-law's car, I won't be losing money!"

"I wouldn't be so sure. This car might just be a picture he posted to show off. He might not even own it," Liu Wan replied, remembering what her mother said about Jason quitting his previous job to start a business with friends.

"But can he really make enough money in just two months to buy a Ferrari?" she thought. "He's not the type to lie or brag."

Lucas nodded, understanding her hesitation. "You know Jason—he wouldn't post anything just to show off. He's too straightforward for that. Maybe I should just call him later."

Meanwhile, Jason Liu, who was on the phone with their mom, wrapped up their conversation. He quickly sent his parents a transfer of 1 million yuan, splitting it into two payments of 500,000 yuan each for Liu Ma and Liu Wan.

In their Village, Liu's mother had just finished her call with Jason when she saw the bank transfer notification. "Look, Liu! Our son just sent us 500,000 yuan!"

She couldn't help but complain, "I told you not to let him send money! He should save up to buy a house in Zheng City. That way, he won't need to return to the countryside."

Liu Dad, smoking a cigarette, took the transfer information from Liu Ma and, after a moment of silence, replied, "If he wants to send it, let's save it for him. It's like the 100,000 yuan he sent last time.

Now he has enough to buy such an expensive car. If his business fails, he can fall back on this 600,000 yuan as his safety net."

Liu Ma agreed, realizing it was better for her to hold on to the money than to let Jason spend it all. "You're right. I'll keep it safe for him."

Then Liu Ma remembered something and warned Liu Dad, "Don't tell anyone about this money, not even your parents!"

"What?" Liu Dad exclaimed, his face turning red. "Why not?"

"Have you forgotten that Jason had to borrow 10,000 yuan for college? He never borrowed a dime from your sister, and I felt embarrassed when I had to ask a family friend for that money! If Jason hadn't borrowed that 10,000 yuan, we wouldn't have needed to ask the Xu family for help," Liu Ma explained, her voice filled with frustration.

She felt a wave of sadness as she thought of Liu Wan's hard work for the Xu family, always serving them, while the two old people looked down on her.

"If Jason had received a little help from his uncle, aunt, or anyone, things would have been different. He wouldn't have needed to humble himself to ask the Xu family for money."

Liu Ma's anger bubbled up again as she recalled the unfairness of the situation. Their family had helped Jason's uncle a lot, but they had never received any support when they needed it.
