Chapter 151: 151. Auntie, are you checking your account?
"What's going on here? The moment we meet, he's already calling us Mom and Dad. How close is this boy to our daughter? Xiaohan's never mentioned him!"
Father and Mother Lin exchanged puzzled looks, suspicion growing. Had their daughter been secretly dating this young man? Were all her previous reassurances just a cover-up?
Their skeptical gazes bore into Lin Xiaohan, who stood there blushing furiously. She was still recovering from Jason Liu's unexpectedly bold greeting. Embarrassed, she huffed, "Jason Liu, what are you shouting for?"
Jason scratched the back of his head, his face red. "Ah, I'm sorry, Uncle, Auntie. I was just nervous. Hello!" He quickly handed over a bag of apples and a carton of milk. "This is a small gift for you on my first visit."
"Oh, you didn't need to bring anything!" Mother Lin quickly took the items with a smile.
Father Lin glanced at the modest gifts, nodding slightly. "Hmm… apples and milk. Simple, but thoughtful." Clearing his throat, he said warmly, "Come in, come in."
Jason smiled and followed Lin Xiaohan into the house, his head slightly lowered.
Lin Xiaohan's home was spacious—a three-bedroom apartment with modern decor, clean and neatly arranged.
"Sit here for a bit; I'll go change," Lin Xiaohan mumbled before disappearing into her room.
Left alone with Lin Xiaohan's parents, Jason sat stiffly on the couch, awkwardly answering their barrage of questions.
"Jason, can I call you that?"
"Of course, Auntie. Call me whatever you like," Jason replied with a polite smile.
"You and Xiaohan were classmates in college?"
"Yes, we were."
"Hmm, strange. She never mentioned you. Did you stay in Zheng City after graduation?"
"Yes, I worked here for a while but resigned earlier this year to start my own business."
"Very ambitious for a young man," Father Lin remarked approvingly.
Mother Lin, however, wasn't done. "Jason, how old are you?"
"I'm 24, Auntie."
"24? That's good, just a year older than Xiaohan," she nodded thoughtfully. "How's your family? Are your parents in Zheng City?"
"My parents are in Zhou City. They're farmers. My older sister is married and also lives there."
"Have you thought about bringing them to Zheng City? Since you've bought a villa, it'd be nice to live together as a family."
"I've thought about it, Auntie. I plan to discuss it with them soon."
Mother Lin leaned forward, eyes sharp. "Jason, your business is doing so well. Have you found a girlfriend yet?"
Jason coughed awkwardly. "I've been focused on work, so I haven't really looked."
"That won't do! Young people need to balance career and family. Look at Xiaohan. She hasn't dated anyone in school or after graduation. Her father and I are worried about her. Aren't your parents anxious about you?"
Jason chuckled nervously. "My mom brings it up a lot, but I'm not in a rush."
"You should be! A career is important, but a happy family is essential for a fulfilling life," Mother Lin declared.
Jason nodded repeatedly, enduring more probing questions about his plans to settle in Zheng City, his thoughts on marriage, and even how many children he wanted.
Just as Jason felt overwhelmed, Lin Xiaohan emerged, dressed in a simple white T-shirt and denim shorts. "Mom, Dad, stop interrogating him! Let's eat!"
Jason sighed in relief, following Lin Xiaohan to the dining table. He whispered, "Xiaohan, what's going on? Your parents are acting like detectives!"
Blushing, Lin Xiaohan avoided his gaze. "What do you mean? They're just being thorough. Come on, don't keep them waiting."
At the table, a feast awaited—seven or eight dishes that looked both vibrant and delicious.
"Jason, let's have a drink!" Father Lin announced, pulling out a bottle of liquor. He poured two glasses, ignoring Jason's protests.
"Uncle, I drove here, so I can't drink much. And I'm not a big drinker," Jason tried to explain.
Father Lin waved off his concerns. "Don't worry, just call a driver later. A little drink won't hurt!"
Lin Xiaohan interjected, "Dad, Jason really doesn't drink much!"
But her father was determined. "A drink at the table shows honesty and character. Just one glass!"
Jason had no choice but to raise his glass, giving Lin Xiaohan a helpless look.
As the evening continued, Jason navigated the Lin family's questions and hospitality, determined to make a good impression—despite the formidable challenge posed by Lin's enthusiastic parents.
