Chapter 149: 149. Take the Initiative to Act
What she saw for herself and what her parents often discussed in front of her—wasn't it clear that relationships were important?
Adults often believe that if they have the ability, they can handle anything in the world. But that kind of thinking is either naive or just plain clueless!
When you think about height, looks, age, and career, Jason Liu is definitely a top contender for a boyfriend.
But he has one big flaw—he's a straight-up "Steel Straight Man"!
Even if he becomes your boyfriend, don't expect him to ever be romantic.
But maybe that's actually a good thing. At least with him, you won't have to worry about him getting rich and turning into a bad person. He won't grow up and betray you.
There's a trade-off. Compared to the charm of unreliable guys, Lin Xiaohan would rather choose the straightforwardness of a "straight man."
After thinking it over, Lin Xiaohan was surprised to realize that Jason Liu could actually be a great boyfriend. In fact, she was starting to feel a little attracted to him.
When she felt that way, she knew it was time to act.
Lin Xiaohan wasn't someone who would wait around, unsure of her feelings. If this guy wasn't going to take the lead, then she would! She was determined to not let some other woman, like Jiang Chuchu said, steal him away.
That wasn't happening!
So, Lin Xiaohan made a decision. She was officially announcing that this "straight man" named Jason Liu, who had been single for years, was off the market.
The other women better stay away!
Once Lin Xiaohan made up her mind, she saw Jason Liu arguing with her best friend. A bright smile appeared on her face as she confidently walked over to his desk. She looked down at him, sitting there behind his desk, feeling sure of herself.
"Mr. Liu, are you free tonight? My parents want to invite you over for dinner!" Lin Xiaohan said, using her parents as an excuse.
Jason Liu was stunned. His eyes went wide as he leaned back in his chair, completely caught off guard. Why on earth would she invite him over for dinner?
Jiang Chuchu, who was watching, was just as surprised. She hadn't expected Xiaohan to be so bold. She was actually taking the man to her house without even hesitating?
Jiang Chuchu couldn't help but think to herself, "Wow, this girl is bold!"
Though she acted confident, Jiang Chuchu would never have been so direct. If it were her, she would have been too shy to do this.
Meanwhile, Jason Liu was still staring, lost for words.
Jason finally managed to say, "Uh, Lin Xiaohan, does it have to be tonight? I... I might have something else to do. I'm not sure if I'll have time... Maybe we can do it another day?"
Lin Xiaohan, who had already been nervous to say this, now saw that Jason Liu seemed even more flustered than she was. She suddenly felt much more confident.
She leaned on the desk, looked Jason Liu in the eyes, and said in a firm voice, "What do you have to do tonight?"
Jason Liu, feeling the intensity of her gaze, found himself at a loss for words. He had to admit, the sight of her in front of him made his heart race, and his throat felt dry.
He couldn't stop looking at her. Her bright eyes, her confidence... he was starting to lose focus.
Lin Xiaohan noticed his wandering gaze and couldn't help but blush a little. She had his full attention, and she felt even more confident as her eyes stayed locked on him.
Jason Liu's mind was in a whirl. He couldn't come up with a valid reason to turn her down. His only option was to stammer, "Uh, well... that..."
"It's settled then. I'll wait for you after work tonight!" Lin Xiaohan said firmly, not giving him a chance to protest. She quickly turned and walked out of the office, her high heels tapping loudly on the floor as she hurried to leave.
Jason Liu and Jiang Chuchu both stood there in surprise until the door closed behind Lin Xiaohan.
"Mr. Liu, don't forget about dinner at Xiaohan's tonight, okay? Hee hee..." Jiang Chuchu couldn't resist teasing him before walking away in her own heels.
Jason Liu, left standing there alone, sighed helplessly. "What does Lin Xiaohan mean? Does she like me and want to introduce me to her parents? But isn't this happening way too fast? We're not even officially a couple yet."
Jason tried to reassure himself. "No, no, I'm just overthinking this. Lin Xiaohan did say it's her parents inviting me to dinner, right? Maybe they're just worried because she quit her bank job to work at the new company. It's a big risk, so they want to know more about the company and me."
He paused, trying to convince himself. "It's not like some big family drama where I meet her parents as her boyfriend, right?"
He kept reassuring himself, but deep down, he couldn't stop feeling a bit nervous. This would be the first time he had ever gone to a girl's house to meet her parents!
Though it might not be as serious as he imagined, it still felt like a big step.
Jason pulled out his phone and typed into the search engine, "What should I do if a girl invites me to dinner at her house tonight?"
The search results gave him some interesting answers.
One user wrote, "What should I do? Just eat like crazy. After you're done, make sure to tell her how delicious her mom's cooking was. That way, you can make a good impression on your future mother-in-law!"
Another person commented, "I don't think the point is just eating. You need to act like you care, show some interest, and perform well. Make a good first impression."
Jason read through the responses and realized this was a lot more serious than he'd originally thought.
But he wasn't backing out. He'd go and see how things turned out.
