Game of Thrones: Killing to the top

Chapter 10: Greed

"People change with time. Never assume that a man is the same as he was a year ago. Never believe they will fall for the same traps….. That is what I believed, but you have proven yourself to be the exception.

 Aegon Targaryen to ******************

Aegon leaned back in his cabin, the faint sway of the ship lulling him into a false sense of calm. The weight of the three eggs in his possession was a constant reminder of his accomplishment, but it was also a source of tension.

He could feel the shifting energy aboard the ship the greed and curiosity radiating from the captain and crew like a foul stench.

He had paid them handsomely to mind their business and take him to his destination with no questions asked, but Aegon was no fool and was always prepared for an attack.

The captain, in particular, had grown restless. Aegon had seen how the man's eyes lingered on him and how he whispered to his crew when he thought no one was watching.

He was clearly planning something, but he had shown patience, days had passed since they left Dragonstone and he had not made a move.

Aegon knew the man was trying to make him drop his guard before they took action but it wouldn't work. Aegon didn't know how far they were from Essos but he was sure it would take more time than he could stay awake without sleep.

He could always add points to his body to rid himself of his tiredness, but Aegon wasn't ready to spend any points now, not before the really important stuff was taken care of.

So he had already decided if they didn't make a move in the coming days he would kill them leaving only those necessary to get him to Essos.

Sitting in the dimly lit room, Aegon turned the black egg over in his hands. The barely noticeable heat from it was soothing, a reminder of the power lying dormant within.

He allowed himself a small smile before setting the egg carefully beside the others.

"Let them try," he muttered to himself.

Above deck, the crew was growing restless. The captain stood near the wheel, his fingers drumming against the wood as he stared out at the horizon.

He had made his fortune ferrying dangerous cargo and people, but this voyage felt different.

The boy…..no, the man who had hired him wasn't the ordinary noble fleeing some petty scandal he was accustomed to seeing. The man felt truly dangerous a man who was no stranger to blood.

But knowing that only made him more sure that whatever he had was worth the risk.

" What could possibly make a man like that take the risk of sneaking onto Dragonstone and then leave for Essos without looking back?" He questioned softly.

He wasn't sure what Aegon got from Dragonstone but he was sure it was worth more than the amount he was paying them. His greed spiked as the thought of taking whatever it was for himself increased.

'I'll take it and maybe even sell it myself.' He added.

What do you think he's hiding?" one of the crew whispered.

"Something valuable," the captain muttered. "Valuable enough to risk setting foot on Dragonstone with Stannis Baratheon's men patrolling."

"He doesn't look like much," another crewman said, glancing toward the cabin door.

The captain frowned. "Don't underestimate him. He moves like a man who's seen battle. If we're going to act, we'll need to be smart about it."

Aegon remained in his cabin, the faint pull of the eggs still thrumming in his blood. He could feel the unease on the ship, the way the men's emotions shifted from curiosity to pure greed.

He was sure they wouldn't be able to hold on much longer.

He sat cross-legged on the floor, his sword resting across his lap.

The blade gleamed faintly in the dim light, a testament to its sharpness.

Aegon closed his eyes, steadying his breathing. His mind wandered to the next steps of his plan. Once he reached Essos, the real work would begin.

The most important thing for the next part of his plan was.....

KNOCK!!

KNOCK!!

Aegon was pulled from his thoughts as he looked at the door.

Who is it?" he called out, his voice calm but firm.

"It's the captain, my lord," came the reply. "I was hoping we could speak."

Aegon rose to his feet, his movements smooth and deliberate. He opened the door slightly, enough to see the captain's face. The man looked nervous, but there was a glint in his eye that Aegon didn't like.

"What do you want?" Aegon asked.

"I'm just making sure everything is to your liking, after all, you are paying us a lot to carry you to your destination." He replied his eyes shifting about the room quickly.

His little actions were swiftly spotted by Aegon.

Aegon's gaze was piercing, and the captain shifted uncomfortably under the scrutiny.

"You've already been paid more than generously," Aegon said coldly. "Do your job, and we'll have no problems. But if you or your men think to cross me, I'll ensure that you regret it."

The captain swallowed hard, the weight of Aegon's words sinking in. "Of course, my lord. No trouble at all."

Aegon shut the door without another word, the sound echoing through the cabin. He returned to his seat, his grip on his sword tightening.

' He was looking for what I got from Dragonstone.' Aegon adds in his mind as he looks at the eggs that were on the side of the room the captain couldn't see.

" They'll make their move soon, maybe even in a couple of hours," he murmured to himself.
