Chapter 178: 171 Explore the Pyramid
One didn't need particularly keen observational skills to see a sense of anticipation on the faces of those present. Although life in the Second Universe was fairly good, with people like Xu Lanzhou and Du Peng gaining higher power, deep down they all harbored the hope of returning home.
Isolated in the Second Universe without the backing of that powerful Empire, it was inevitable for them to feel a sense of solitude. Moreover, many of their family and friends were in that other world.
Bai Zhongqi felt a subtle pressure. The emergence of the Elder Race's civilization ruins gave the people of Iridium Star something that existed in both universes besides themselves. It was logical to expect some clues about traversing universes within that pyramid.
Bai Zhongqi wasn't worried about whether the Iridium Star United Empire of the First Universe would recognize his identity. With the Supreme Command in his possession, the people of Iridium Star could only submit to him.
At this moment, he felt both anticipation and apprehension: anticipation for the possibility of wielding greater power; apprehension that the Star Alliance—a front he expended substantial effort to create to expedite Earth's rapid interstellar civilizational development—might prove ineffective against the vast United Empire.
Naturally, as the Chancellor of Iridium Star, he was willing to grant Earth more favorable treatment, and there was nothing the Iridium Stars could do to interfere.
Having thought through some minor details, Bai Zhongqi didn't delay, and he immediately dispatched a legitimate Iridium Star exploration team that landed on Mars and entered the underground world through a chasm cavern.
Taschwe and others who were wandering near the pit watched multiple spaceships enter the chasm. With considerable annoyance, Taschwe said, "There must be something extraordinary discovered down there; otherwise, we would have gone to take a look too."
Chi Jia sternly stopped him, "Don't be reckless, carry out our mission. We are soldiers, and carrying out orders is our sacred duty."
Taschwe pouted and said, "How boring."
The several exploration spaceships that entered the chasm cavern carried a few dozen explorers, half of whom were experienced explorers from Iridium Star. Many people from the R19 exploration fleet had similar backgrounds and were accustomed to performing such tasks. The remaining bionic humans were responsible for defense and other potentially risky activities.
Bai Zhongqi had high hopes for this capable exploration team, but despite circling the gigantic Sky-Piercing Pyramid for a whole day, they failed to find the entrance to this enigmatic structure.
Xu Lanzhou couldn't help but say to Bai Zhongqi, "Could it be that this building is simply unmanned, tasked with automatically regulating the artificial eco-sphere of Mars' underground world, and there's nothing more to it?"
Linyin, however, countered, "Impossible. Such a massive building connects the ceiling and floor of the entire underground world. With the technological power of the Elder Race, there's no need to construct something so large. Moreover, why would they build an underground eco-sphere here on Mars, a place with nothing but soil? What's the purpose of the construction?"
These questions posed by Linyin were also what Bai Zhongqi was concerned about. After all, the people of Iridium Star knew too little about the Elder Race; despite the numerous rumors, the Iridium Stars had only unearthed a single relic of the Elder Race dating back three thousand years, and the scale and contents were nothing compared to this astonishing Sky-Piercing Pyramid.
After lingering outside the pyramid for another day, the exploration team was completely disheartened. Just like the life on the planet of Emerald Sea Star, the Sky-Piercing Pyramid in Mars' underground world proved once again to be beyond the reach of Iridium Star's technological capabilities.
Although Xu Lanzhou suggested blasting a hole in the doorless pyramid with weapons, and others proposed digging at the base to see if there were any clues, Bai Zhongqi couldn't risk attacking the pyramid. If there were a weapons system inside, still operational, it might retaliate against the Iridium Star exploration team, or worse, unleash an even greater disaster.
As for the method of digging tunnels, Bai Zhongqi discovered through scanning that the hundreds of kilometers tall Sky-Piercing Pyramid actually had no foundation. It was a complete and complex three-dimensional assembly structure, firmly embedded between the heavens and the earth of the Martian underground world.
Although they hadn't found a way to enter the tower in two days, Bai Zhongqi still acquired some information. For instance, the Sky-Piercing Pyramid was absorbing energy emitted from the Martian core in a way Iridium Star people didn't understand. This portion of energy was originally "wasted," but it was all absorbed by the tower.
"No, it's too frustrating to see a treasure mountain without finding the entrance. I must go and see for myself." Bai Zhongqi didn't want to wait any longer. He decided to go to Mars himself.
Just like before, not only would the Iridium Star people not stop him, but they were also supportive of his decision to conduct a personal inspection. The concept of "a precious son is not to be found in the fields" seemed to be absent in their minds. In their opinion, as long as the Chancellor took action, success was expected.
In a matter of minutes, without activating the Warp Engine, the Sacred Falcon brought Bai Zhongqi into Mars' orbit. Bai Zhongqi then boarded the Emerald Boat, together with the "ship maiden" Sacred Falcon and the robust lad Nan Ma, heading towards the planet.
After hearing about the discovery of the Elder Race's ruins on Mars, Nan Ma was quite intrigued, and when Bai Zhongqi called him, he agreed immediately.

Looking out from the porthole of the Emerald Boat, Bai Zhongqi saw with his own eyes the Sky-Piercing Pyramid, even more majestic. It was hard to imagine the might of the Elder Race who built such an enormous structure and the achievements they had accomplished in the Remote Ancient Universe.
"Perhaps although the civilization they created has disappeared today, at least the Primate Clan as life created by them is thriving today." Bai Zhongqi couldn't help but contemplate.
The Emerald Boat landed outside the Sky-Piercing Pyramid. For a hundred kilometers around the pyramid, there was smooth, level ground. Bai Zhongqi disembarked the boat, and looking up at the tower, he surprisingly found that even at such a close distance, the entire pyramid seemed to cover half the sky.
Nan Ma set up a sun-shading hand, with the other hand on his waist, looking up at the pyramid and exclaimed exaggeratedly, "Although we, the Iridium Star people, could probably build such a tower, thinking about the endless secrets it might hide really makes one's heart race."
Bai Zhongqi walked towards the high tower while his bone-computer received a communication from Linyin.
"Chancellor, our scanning results are out. This tower was built at least 10 billion years ago!"
Bai Zhongqi's face changed, and he immediately replied to Linyin, "What kind of joke is that?! Mars is only 4.6 billion years old; how could this tower have been built 10 billion years ago?"
Linyin's voice trembled with excitement, "There are many possibilities. The first one I can think of is: when Mars was formed, it involved this tower, and even the entire man-made ecosystem associated with it, eventually becoming part of the planet. Another possibility is that this tower might have been transferred from somewhere else."
Bai Zhongqi shook his head. Recent events made him feel that things were becoming more and more bizarre. He originally thought that the technology of Iridium Star was sufficient to have a place in the Galaxy, but he didn't expect the Universe to contain too many unthinkable things.
