Chapter 93: When Walls Fall
Location: Gaia HQ – Sublevel 5, Internal Therapy Chamber
A fine mist curled around the soundproofed chamber, dim lights casting long shadows on steel walls. Cyg sat cross-legged on the padded floor, eyes closed, breathing calm but shallow. His hands trembled—not from fear, but from the echo of something unfamiliar: vulnerability.
Across from him sat Eun-Ha, her legs folded neatly beneath her, hands resting gently atop her knees, staff Solmaria laying quietly beside her like a faithful sentinel.
"You're not meditating," Eun-Ha said softly.
"I don't need to," Cyg replied.
"That's not what your hands say."
He opened one eye and glared.
"You're unusually talkative today."
"You're unusually transparent."
A pause. Her tone never shifted—always calm, but never distant. Like moonlight: soft, but impossible to grasp.
"This place wasn't meant to make you stronger by crushing your pain, Cyg," she continued. "It was meant to help you carry it."
He didn't respond right away. Then:
"When I joined Gaia, I thought suppressing everything made me efficient. The quieter I was, the faster I calculated. The fewer feelings I allowed, the less I hesitated."
"And now?"
"Now…" he hesitated, "…it's all coming back. And I don't know what to do with it."
Eun-Ha gently reached out—not to touch him, but to let her presence reach him like warmth from a nearby fire.
"Then let it come. All of it. Even if it hurts."
For the first time, he let the silence linger—not as a barrier, but a breath of release.
Location: Gaia's Training Arena 3 – Afternoon
Sylvia and Charlotte clashed in a practice duel, the sound of gears and soundwaves echoing off the arena walls. Elaine and Mia cheered on from the side, though Elaine's cheers were increasingly confused.
"Wait, who's winning again?"
"I… have no idea," Mia blinked.
Nearby, Cyg observed in silence. His arms were crossed, but his eyes were softer than usual.
"You going to join them?" Sylvia called, spinning with a laugh mid-swing. "Or are you just going to stand there and brood?"
"I'm studying the flaws in your stance."
"Then get over here and test it."
Charlotte let out an exaggerated sigh. "Flirt through footwork. So inefficient."
"This isn't flirting," Cyg muttered.
"You're not denying it, either," Charlotte smirked.
Elaine laughed. "I call this a breakthrough!"
Cyg, for the briefest moment, cracked a reluctant smile—and they all noticed. Mia's face lit up, and even Sylvia faltered mid-swing before grinning proudly.
Later – Garden Path at Sunset
Cyg walked alone near the silver pond behind HQ, his thoughts turning as the amber light of the setting sun painted the horizon.
He didn't hear her footsteps. She never made a sound when she didn't want to. Hikari emerged beside him, looking at the ripples in the water.
"It's beautiful when it's still," she murmured. "But you can't see your reflection until it moves."
He nodded slowly.
"I used to hate people like you," he admitted.
She tilted her head slightly. "Why?"
"Because you felt too much. And I didn't know how."
Her hands clenched at her sides, then slowly loosened.
"And now?"
"Now I want to learn."
Hikari turned toward him. Her eyes met his, and though no words were spoken, the air between them shimmered—like snow melting under dawn's first light.
Location: Observation Bay – Night
Irene, Aria, and Thea reviewed recent engagement simulations, including Cyg's growth metrics.
"He's emotionally evolving," Irene noted, folding her arms. "And that's affecting his ability to lead."
"Negatively?" Thea asked.
"On the contrary," Aria responded. "He's seeing people now. Not pieces. Not tools."
"That makes him dangerous," Thea concluded. "To Orion. To the Abyss."
And, she thought silently, perhaps… to the hearts of a few Knights.
Location: Dormitory Wing – Room 11
Sylvia leaned against the doorframe of Cyg's quarters. She didn't knock.
"You've changed."
"So have you," he replied.
She smirked. "I liked the old you."
"Why?"
"Because I could predict you."
"And now?"
"Now… I like you more."
A long pause.
"Say something sarcastic," she whispered. "So I can pretend it's still simple."
"I think I'm afraid of hurting people."
"That's the most human thing you've said."
"Then I guess I'm changing."
He looked up. She was still there. Not pushing, just… waiting.
And this time, he didn't shut the door.
