Chapter 38: Crimson Horizon
Location: Gaia HQ – Southern Command Division
The aftermath of Calidor's fall sent tremors through every echelon of Gaia's military. A red alert pulsed across all regional divisions as Thea stood at the center of the Council Hall, surrounded by live feeds of Abyssal anomalies spreading along coastal sectors. The rising tides were not random—they were patterned, forming a crimson crescent stretching from southern Tiberia to the Red Narrows.
"This isn't an isolated awakening," said Julius, arms crossed. "It's a wide-scale mobilization."
"A full oceanic surge," confirmed Irene. "Five new Abyss Gates have opened in the last twelve hours."
King Leonardo stood silent beside Thea, the light of tactical projections casting sharp shadows across his weathered face.
"They've been waiting," he murmured. "Not dormant… but patient."
"And now," Thea said, her voice grim, "they rise."
She looked at the council of Generals, Octagram members, and elite support staff.
"Effective immediately, Operation Crimson Horizon is authorized. I want our entire southern fleet, three divisions of Integral Knights, and full Abyssal recon teams deployed to predicted breach zones."
Meanwhile, in the Octagon's quarters
Harriet paced restlessly, fire flickering from her hands despite her best efforts to keep calm. Cyg stood beside a projector, mapping Vyr'Zhul's impact on the surrounding etheric field. Mia, Charlotte, Sylvia, and Eun-Ha gathered silently nearby. Hikari was resting in the infirmary, her body recovering under Eun-Ha's divine care.
"Hikari nearly died," Mia whispered. "And we didn't even scratch that thing."
"It wasn't a fight," Cyg said, not looking up. "It was an announcement."
Sylvia, arms folded, leaned against the wall.
"So what's the message?"
Cyg finally turned. His eyes glowed with a pale azure hue—Mystic Eye activated.
"The Abyss isn't attacking us randomly. It's remembering. And every time it remembers, it evolves."
Charlotte ran her fingers across the circuitry of her arm brace.
"So… what? It's learning? Upgrading itself through the remnants of places it's destroyed?"
"Worse," Cyg said, narrowing his eyes. "It's rewriting the world to match its own memory of how it should be."
Location: Orion Citadel – The Throne of Hollow Stars
Far away, within the inverted spire of the Orion Citadel, Erebus watched the sea through a mirror of void-glass. Beside him, the four Void Council members stood in their black regalia.
Kael Verdan, the Catalyst Sovereign, spoke first.
"The Abyss was not supposed to awaken… not yet. This was not the timeline we set."
Erebus didn't turn to him. His obsidian blade Nihileth rested in his hand like a sleeping serpent.
"It was inevitable."
"It will complicate everything," said Miruis Nevan, the Prideful Star. "Gaia will retaliate. The southern sea is ablaze. And Vyr'Zhul was not meant to be awakened this early."
Erebus finally spoke.
"You misunderstand. We did not awaken Vyr'Zhul. Something else did."
Silence.
"You mean there's another force?" Marta Sirova asked, her red veil drifting like silk over bone. "Something even older?"
"Not something," Erebus whispered. "Someone."
And his gaze shifted… not to Gaia, but to the dark side of the Moon.
Location: Abyss Gate – Epsilon Theta
Joseph Synthesis 20 and Diane Synthesis 4 led a detachment of support-class Integral Knights into a crimson-lit battlefield. Abyss creatures—twisted, semi-intelligent hybrids with eel-like limbs and jagged bone protrusions—poured from the portal in synchronized patterns.
Diane raised her greatsword Thaneris, channeling gravity waves that crushed the oncoming tide.
"Hold the front!" she shouted. "Containment wall formation!"
Joseph surged forward with Thalrion, trident glowing with hydro-force, using vortex bursts to redirect the black water's corruption away from injured allies.
Behind them, Raika, Lionel, and Sophia executed flanking patterns.
Raika laughed wildly.
"Finally! Something fun to slice!"
Sophia, calculating with her strings, directed ether pathways from the rear.
"Raika, don't overextend. Enemy density rising."
The battle was fierce, but this time, Gaia held the line.
Location: Infirmary – Nightfall
Hikari stirred from unconsciousness. She opened her eyes slowly, greeted by the soft glow of Mia's grimoire and the warmth of Eun-Ha's presence.
"You're awake," Eun-Ha said gently.
Hikari blinked, her voice faint.
"I… saw it. In the dark."
Mia leaned closer.
"What did you see?"
"Not Vyr'Zhul," she whispered. "Something behind it… watching. No face. No shape. Just a voice."
"What did it say?" Eun-Ha asked.
Hikari's eyes filled with dread.
"It said… You're part of me now."
