Chapter 25: The Shape of the Octagon
The following morning brought no grand alarm, no breach, no chaos—only a summons.
Eight names. One place.
The Core Chamber.
Deep beneath Fort Argenvale, accessible only to the Synthesis-class, the chamber held an ancient relic of Gaia's early years: a living map of the world's etheric flow—rivers of invisible energy, pulsing through ley lines, cities, and hearts alike.
As the Octagon arrived one by one, the room lit up in response.
Cyg was the first to speak.
"The system has recognized our link. It's a synchronization test."
"No," came a voice from above. "It is a declaration."
Descending from a platform of shimmering light, Thea Synthesis 0 approached, clad in ceremonial armor, the silver glow of Caliburnus at her side.
"Eight passed the Artifact Trials within one year," she said. "Eight from different pasts, different corners of this broken world. Eight pieces of one whole."
Behind her, the remaining Integral Knights began to file in—Astron, Julius, Irene, Diane, and others—31 in total. The full cadre.
Even King Leonardo Serfort Granhart XI stood at the upper gallery, flanked by the Octagram.
"You stand at the cusp of history," Thea said. "The Abyss stirs. Orion plots. And the people grow restless."
She looked each of them in the eye.
Elaine, cheerful and brave.Mia, tender and dreaming.Harriet, fire and fury.Sylvia, beauty and pride.Charlotte, brilliant and bold.Eun-Ha, distant yet divine.Hikari, quiet yet luminous. And Cyg—the cold mind at the center, now melting.
"Each of you is powerful alone," she continued, "but your strength lies in your connection. Your decisions. Your hearts."
The living map pulsed.
And then… shifted.
From eight scattered stars… to one unified shape.
An octagon.
Thea extended her sword, and light flowed from it into the center of the chamber. Glyphs ignited on the floor, forming a glowing ring beneath their feet.
"From this day forward," she declared, "you are not merely Integral Knights. You are the Octagon—Gaia's frontline against the void."
The glyphs rose like fire, engraving themselves into the chamber walls—marking a new era.
Each of them felt it:
Elaine, the first to trust.
Harriet, the first to stand alone, and then beside.
Mia, who believed in beauty.
Sylvia, who found strength in music and vulnerability.
Charlotte, who unlocked the logic of emotion.
Eun-Ha, who held divine stillness with compassion.
Hikari, whose shadows hid a fierce light.
Cyg, the tactician, finally learning what couldn't be computed.
As the ceremony ended, the Octagon remained behind for a moment, just them.
"Well," Harriet said, cracking her neck. "Guess we're official now."
"With a title that sounds like a geometry problem," Charlotte quipped.
"I like it," Mia smiled. "It feels… right."
Elaine twirled lightly. "Eight sides. Eight hearts."
Eun-Ha simply nodded. "Bound by choice."
Sylvia looked around. "Whatever comes next… we'll face it together."
They all turned to Cyg, who hadn't said a word.
"We are unoptimized," he began.
Eyes rolled. Groans echoed.
"But... we are adaptive. Capable of evolving. We will succeed."
He paused. Then added, almost like an afterthought—
"Together."
Hikari smiled.
Above them, in the gallery, King Leonardo leaned on his cane.
"The future stirs."
Thea stood beside him, arms crossed.
"Let it," she said. "The Octagon has awakened."
