The Rift Above

When dawn should have come, it did not. Instead, the sky split in a widening chasm of darkness, and from it descended the fractured silhouette of Fei Xun—Codename: Chronocrypt.

She hovered just beyond the walls, her armored cloak rippling in temporal dissonance. Each movement was mirrored by an afterimage a heartbeat behind, like a dance with her own past.

Her voice echoed in layered tones:

"Knights of Gaia. The wager is simple."

Her pale hand unfolded, revealing a miniature obsidian hourglass swirling with crushed stars.

"This is the Hourglass of Oblivion. If you fail to defeat the remaining Chaos Generals before the sands expire, the rift will widen until it devours this fortress and every soul within."

The Southern Bastion

Elaine clenched Aetheris until her knuckles were bloodless.

"That thing… It's like she's already seen all our moves."

Astron's shadow flickered nearby, his voice low and controlled. "She probably has. Chronocrypt's power distorts timelines. The only way to counter her is to act in ways she can't predict."

"Which means…?"

"Trusting each other," he said simply. "More than we trust ourselves."

Elaine swallowed. For a moment, her gaze strayed across the rampart, to where Cyg knelt beside the battered parapet, reloading Aetheron with mechanical precision.

Their eyes met—just long enough for her chest to tighten in that familiar ache.

She looked away first.

The Hall of Broken Sigils

Julius and Wang Han traded glances as they advanced down the corridor lined with shattered warding glyphs.

Wang Han wiped blood from his cheek with a growl. "I'm getting tired of these games. Every time we think we're gaining ground, another one of them shows up."

Julius grinned, but there was no mirth in it. "Yeah. But that's what makes it worth it, right?"

Wang Han raised an eyebrow.

"The fight," Julius continued, voice low. "If it were easy, we'd never see what we're really capable of."

"Or who we care enough to protect," Wang Han muttered, glancing at the breach where he'd last seen Harriet's flames cutting through the tide.

The Central Plaza

Cyg drew a breath, adjusting his stance. His mind catalogued the positions of every ally and every Chaos General still standing.

Sivia Gale, forced to retreat.Brask Moltenhide, fallen.Nyxa Vell, regrouping.Fei Xun, untouched.Valier Grys—Raging King—advancing toward the western flank.

And behind all of it, the hourglass that measured their doom.

Mia's voice reached him, quiet and trembling but determined:

"Cyg… We have to try."

He didn't look back. "I know."

Charlotte slipped to Mia's side, her chakram whirring softly.

"And if this really is the end?" she asked.

Mia closed her eyes. "Then we make sure it's the end they remember."

A quiet beat passed. Even with the threat pressing in, Cyg felt the weight of her words settle into the silence between them, more honest than any confession.

The Abyss-Bound Gate

Harriet clashed with Valier Grys in a cataclysm of fire and brute force. His gauntlets struck the stones like meteors, shattering barricades as she met him head-on with Vermithar's burning wings.

"You think this is some noble cause?" Valier laughed, a deep, booming sound that shook her bones. "Gaia will crumble like everything else!"

Harriet bared her teeth, flame rippling down her arms.

"Maybe," she said. "But not today."

With a roar, she drove both wings forward, sending a tide of searing flame across the courtyard.

Orion's Perch

On the highest ridge, Erebus observed the chaos in perfect stillness.

Beside him, Kael Verdan's expression remained thoughtful.

"Do you think they will manage to defy Fei Xun?" Kael asked quietly.

Erebus did not answer for several breaths.

Then:

"She is not the most dangerous piece on this board."

Kael inclined his head. "No. That would be you."

Erebus smiled thinly. "Or the boy."

Kael blinked, surprised. "Cyg?"

"He has not yet chosen." Erebus's gaze did not waver. "That is why he interests me."

The Northern Wall

Hikari pressed her palm to her chest, feeling her pulse racing like a trapped bird. She'd always feared what would happen if she let her power run free. But now…

She thought of Cyg—of the way he never looked away from her, never recoiled from the darkness she carried.

Her scythe lengthened in her grasp, shadows pooling around her feet.

"I won't… be afraid," she whispered.

Sylvia's hand found hers.

"You're not alone," she said softly.

For just an instant, Hikari allowed herself to believe it.

The Heart of Gaia

King Leonardo stood at the central dais, eyes closed, his hands resting on the hilt of an ancient sword older than any artifact in the vaults.

"Lady Irene," he said without opening his eyes.

She approached quietly, chains trailing behind her. "Your Majesty?"

"If we fail to stop them…"

"We won't," she said simply.

He looked at her then—old eyes meeting calm, unwavering conviction.

"Very well," he murmured. "Then go. Stand with them."

Irene bowed low and turned to join the final defense.

The Courtyard – A Wager Made

Cyg emerged from the archway as Fei Xun's gaze fell upon him.

"You are the one Erebus watches," she murmured, voice layered in centuries of echo. "Will you gamble everything on your fragile hope?"

He did not reply.

Instead, he lifted Aetheron—and fired straight at the hourglass in her palm.

Time convulsed.
