Chapter 179: The Knights Got Talent
As the sun began to dip below the horizon on Day 3 of the Festival of a Thousand Stars, the central courtyard of Gaia transformed once again. This time, it became a grand amphitheater adorned with glowing orbs of etherlight and shimmering streamers representing the 31 Integral Knights. The banner read in bold letters:
"The Knights Got Talent – Showcase of Wonders, Laughter, and Surprises!"
Chairs were set, food stalls surrounded the perimeter, and an enormous magical screen was conjured for those who couldn't sit close to the main stage. The entire Gaia headquarters buzzed with energy and anticipation — tonight wasn't about combat, patrols, or missions. Tonight, even warriors would perform like children chasing joy.
At the center of the stage stood Irene Synthesis 3, the designated host of the event. Dressed in an elegant deep-green formal robe and holding a microphone imbued with amplification ether, she waved to the massive crowd.
"Good evening, Gaia! Are you ready to witness the chaos, charm, and questionable talents of your beloved Knights?!"
The crowd roared. Even the Octagram council members were in attendance, with King Leonardo Serfort Granhart XI himself watching from a golden balcony throne, chuckling in anticipation.
Backstage, knights were nervously preparing or goofing off. Among them, Harriet, Sylvia, Charlotte, Mia, Eun-Ha, Elaine, and Hikari sat together in matching festival robes, chatting anxiously as Cyg leaned quietly against a pillar nearby, arms crossed.
"Remind me again," Charlotte sighed, "how did I get roped into performing... stand-up?"
"Because you lost rock-paper-scissors," Harriet grinned. "And because I rigged it."
Elaine clapped her hands. "I'm doing a dance! Want to join, Mia?"
Mia blushed. "M-Maybe I'll… cheer from the side."
"I'm reciting a poem," Hikari whispered nervously, fingers fidgeting. "Is that okay…?"
"You'll do amazing," Eun-Ha said softly, her serene presence calming them all.
Cyg, of course, said nothing. But he glanced at each of them in turn, quietly absorbing the tension, excitement… and warmth they shared. He didn't belong on stage. But he would watch — especially their performances.
🎤 Act 1 – Julius & Diane: "Knight Karaoke"
Julius leapt onstage in a glittering jacket, dragging the ever-stoic Diane Synthesis 4 behind him.
"GAIAAA! Ready to rock?! Diane and I are about to SLAY—"
"...This is undignified," Diane muttered.
But as the upbeat techno remix of "Sword in the Ether" blasted through the speakers, Diane shocked everyone — delivering a monotone but perfectly rhythmic deadpan rap, while Julius wailed like a rockstar.
The crowd went wild.
"Did she just... rhyme 'Ether Arc' with 'Slicing Spark'?" Elaine gasped.
Cyg actually snorted. A small one. But it happened.
🎭 Act 2 – Charlotte: "The Clockwork Comedy Show"
Charlotte stepped onto stage next, eyes wide behind her glasses.
"Okay, okay. So, a Wind Knight, a Vampire, and a Pyromancer walk into a training dome—"
Her mechanical puppets popped out beside her, acting out skits with clanking metal limbs. She made puns, cracked jokes about Thea's serious face, and even impersonated Cyg's signature line:
"You're in the way. Move."
That earned a small collective gasp — followed by laughter when she finished it with:
"...or I'll rearrange your blood cells alphabetically."
Even Thea cracked a tiny smile.
Backstage, Charlotte was greeted with cheers — but the one she cared about most was the silent nod Cyg gave her.
She nearly combusted.
🎨 Act 3 – Elaine & Mia: "Dance of Sky and Paint"
Elaine twirled across the stage in a whirlwind of wind-borne fabric, while Mia used magic-enhanced ink to splash color across the backdrop mid-air.
They danced in harmony — wind and paint weaving like a duet.
When the performance ended, the crowd erupted. Mia glanced backstage, eyes flicking to Cyg.
He was watching.
That alone made her beam.
🖋️ Act 4 – Hikari: "Petals in the Dark"
Hikari stepped onto the stage, clutching a rolled scroll. Her voice trembled, but the first words carried with enough weight to hush the crowd:
"In shadows deep, I feared my name…"
Her poetry flowed like starlight — soft, broken, but real. The words were about loneliness, about fear, about finding light again… and someone who helped her believe she could hold a scythe without hurting others.
Her gaze flickered toward Cyg, just once.
His expression didn't change, but he was still. And listening.
When she bowed, half the front row had tears in their eyes.
⚔️ Surprise Final Act – Thea, Tryce, Alice, Aria, Lionel, and Lugh: "Knights of Cabaret"
No one expected this.
Six of Gaia's least likely performers emerged in stunning costumes — dancing in synchronization to a comedy song titled "Formation: Fabulous." Even Tryce, the sniper, did jazz hands. Alice levitated above the stage in an elegant slow spin. Lugh… transformed into Cyg, mimicking his stoic glare.
"Permission to obliterate," he intoned in perfect imitation.
The entire knight corps lost it.
Even Cyg turned to Charlotte and whispered, "Remind me to break Lugh's nose later."
She just smirked.
🎉 Curtain Call
Irene stepped back out.
"That concludes this year's Talent Showcase! Let's give a hand to all our wonderful performers — and let's not forget our audience, who made it magical!"
Applause thundered through Gaia HQ. As the performers regrouped backstage, warm with pride and embarrassment, a strange but happy exhaustion settled in.
Cyg didn't perform.
But he waited by the door with chilled drinks for the girls, handing one to each as they exited.
"Good work," he said, one by one.
Charlotte's face turned beet red.
Mia whispered a thank you so soft it barely existed.
Hikari looked at her bottle like it was sacred.
Elaine hugged him outright, making him stiffen like a stone pillar.
"Tomorrow," Sylvia said, brushing her hair behind her ear, "it's my solo. I hope you'll be watching."
"I will," he replied simply.
And the night, under the thousand stars, closed with laughter and sparks.
