Chapter 16: V for…?
The moon, as always, remained silent.
And the pale glow coming from it was just the same as before.
There was no sort of difference in the moon rays streaming into the room.
… No sign at all that The Man In The Moon had answered the question if he already did.
"Of course, no answer," Bunny grumbled, rubbing the back of his neck and twicking out a stray hay from his fur with his fingers, tossing it to the floor.
"We really need to find better ways to communicate with HIM. These frequent riddles are driving me insane."
Jack tapped his nail on his staff, "You're not alone there, Bunny."
None of them blinked, and if they did it wasn't possible for them to all blink at once, at the same time.
So what they saw, definitely came from out of nowhere.
It was all so sudden.
A white light literally exploded into the high meeting room where they were and it was so blinding, so intense that they all raised their hands to cover their eyes instinctively.
All of them except Jack.
"What the—?" Bunny shouted.
The light came along with a weird humming sound, so Bunnymund's voice was almost completely dissolved in it.
North's huge hand covered his eyes well, well enough for him to make out the form in the strange light.
Jack was completely surrounded and inside the light.
It seemed to be, swallowing him, enveloping him while he held his arms up, looking at them.
"Jack!" Tooth screamed, shooting out of her chair.
She got to him quickly, reaching her hands out to him.
But…
As soon as she tried to grab him, her fingers went straight through his arm
It was like she touched nothing, like nothing. At all.
Maybe it was painful or perhaps it was the light but Jack jerked, making a short hiccup sound.
North practically roared, "What's happening to him?"
Jack was close so he only had to stomp on his feet two steps forward to be close enough to touch.
It was useless though 'cos his hands swiped at nothing but air.
"COME OUT OF THE LIGHT!!" Tooth and North shouted at the same time.
Jack twisted on his heel and looked like he was vibrating.
"I can't! I can't move!!" He shouted back.
At this point he was barely seeing them.
Worse, his body was becoming… translucent, like a smoke or better yet, a mist under the morning sun, except it wasn't morning.
Bunny's ears flattened against the sides of his head as he lunged forward. "Hold on Frostbite!"
The result was the just the same, his paws passed through Jack's shoulder, meeting with empty space.
Things were not going well at all, Jack Frost's body was starting to shimmer, blurring up.
Sandy hovered on his floating cloud, waving both of his hands in a circle, creating a giant ball of golden sand toward Jack.
The ball exploded around Jack, latching onto his skin and drawing together tightly, giving him a golden outline.
It was solidifying his body and within 5 seconds, Jack's body begans glitching, looking more physical.
"It's working!" Bunny shouted, hope was fully rested on his face.
"Don't stop what you're doing!" North added.
But then the light around Jack pulsed violently, sending something like a shockwave through the room.
Sandy was thrown backward, crashing into the wall with a thud that had no sound of it's impact.
… And the golden sand was ripped off Jack's body and dissipated in the air, leaving Jack's form even fainter, more fainter than before.
"Sandy!" Tooth cried, darting like an arrow toward him.
Jack's eyes were wide as he looked around at his friends.
"What's happening?!"
"We don't know!" North bellowed.
"Hold on, Jack,!!"
"I'm trying!" Jack shouted back, but his voice was sounding… distant.
His body wasn't all that visible anymore, he was more of silhouette glowing within the bright light.
The light pulsed again, brighter and brighter AND BRIGHTER, more intense than ever.
It forced the four Guardians outside of it cover their eyes with their elbows, turning heads away from the light.
It was too much.
"Jack!" North roared.
"Frost!"
"Jack!
"JACK!"
Then, as quickly as it had appeared, the light vanished.
And Jack was gone.
