Chapter 41: Chapter 41: The Ambush
The sound of the rooftop doors slamming shut sent a jolt of adrenaline through Isabella's veins.
She and Alexander were trapped.
A Dangerous Standoff
The man in the gray suit smirked, taking a slow step forward. "You thought you were in control, didn't you?"
Alexander's expression remained unreadable, but Isabella could sense the shift in his stance—ready for a fight.
"What do you want?" she asked, keeping her voice steady.
The man tilted his head. "I want you to stop digging." His gaze flicked to Alexander. "And I want you to take the fall for something much bigger than corporate espionage."
Isabella's stomach twisted. So that was their play.
This wasn't just about revenge. They wanted Alexander gone.
Fight or Flight
Alexander let out a low chuckle. "You came all this way to threaten us?" He took a deliberate step closer. "That tells me you're nervous."
The man's smirk faltered.
That's when Isabella noticed it—the slight movement of his hand toward his jacket.
A weapon.
Her instincts kicked in. "Move!"
Alexander reacted instantly. He grabbed her wrist and yanked her behind him just as a gun was drawn.
But before the man could fire—
BANG!
The rooftop door burst open, and two figures in black stormed in. Shots rang out.
An Unlikely Rescue
Isabella's heart pounded as Alexander pulled her down behind a metal table for cover.
"Who the hell—?" she started.
Then she saw them.
Claire. And a man she didn't recognize.
Claire lowered her gun, eyes flashing. "I told you it was a setup."
The man beside her—tall, broad-shouldered, and armed—glanced at Alexander. "I just saved your ass, Blackwood. You're welcome."
Alexander exhaled sharply, running a hand through his hair. "Yeah? Then tell me who the hell you are."
The man smirked. "Someone who knows exactly who's trying to kill you."
Silence.
Then Isabella spoke, her voice firm. "Start talking."
Because now?
They weren't just playing a corporate game.
They were fighting to survive.
