Chapter 34: Chapter 34: The First Strike
Teaming up with Alexander Blackwood was like making a deal with a storm—you knew the devastation was coming, but you couldn't help but admire the power.
As Isabella stood beside him, staring at the evidence on her phone, she realized something far more dangerous than their truce.
She was starting to enjoy this.
A Plan Takes Shape
Alexander leaned against the marble counter of the empty lounge they had retreated to. "Westport Global thinks they can play dirty and get away with it," he mused. "I say we return the favor."
Isabella arched an eyebrow. "You're suggesting retaliation?"
His smirk was slow and deliberate. "I'm suggesting we hit back harder."
She crossed her arms. "And how exactly do you propose we do that?"
Alexander turned his phone screen toward her, a document pulled up. "Westport Global has been moving untraceable funds through shell companies, right?"
She nodded.
"Well," he continued, "what if we make sure those transactions become very, very visible?"
Leverage and Threats
Isabella's mind spun with possibilities. If they exposed Westport Global's secret financial moves, it wouldn't just ruin their credibility—it would cripple their bid for the Titan Freight contract.
She hated to admit it, but Alexander's ruthless efficiency was… impressive.
Still, she wasn't about to let him control the narrative. "And what's stopping you from turning on me the second we win this battle?"
His eyes darkened with something unreadable. "Honor."
She laughed. "You expect me to believe you play by some kind of moral code?"
He took a step closer, lowering his voice. "No. But I do play by my own rules. And right now, I need you. That makes you untouchable."
For now.
The words hung unspoken between them, laced with an undeniable tension.
Setting the Trap
"Fine," Isabella finally said. "But if we do this, we do it my way."
Alexander smirked. "I'd expect nothing less."
And just like that, the enemy became an ally.
At least for now.
Because while they were fighting Westport Global together, one thing was certain—
This war between them was far from over.
