Chapter 235: Xiao Tao
"Why do we need to come all the way here to search for senior martial uncle?"
Ho Ming asked as he lifted his hand to his forehead, using it to shade himself from the hot and bright sun.
Nan An village was next to the eastern seas.
And the weather was scorching hot, with strong winds blowing from the seaside.
They had traveled on horseback for two days before reaching the edge of Nan An village.
"The branch sect had contact with him a week earlier, but they couldn't find him around anymore. Usually, he would inform them of his next destination."
Hun Yen Kun replied while fanning himself with his fan.
The heat was getting to him, making his clothes stick to his skin.
But it was still better than staying in the Sword Peak and facing the hundreds of tasks he had to manage as the stand-in Peak Lord.
"Branch sect?" Lin Fan asked, curious.
"They are branches we set up for information gathering, occasionally taking in poor kids to train them in basic martial arts," Hun Yen Kun explained.
Lin Fan nodded and asked, "Could it have something to do with the Dark Lotus Sect?"
He had the face mask on, and his new disguise made him look scholarly like Hun Yen Kun, with fair and smooth skin.
It wasn't out of the question that the Dark Lotus Sect might have gotten to Zhao Qing Ying.
Hun Yen Kun shook his head and said, "According to the branch sect, they didn't detect any suspicious activities from the Dark Lotus Sect.
"The branch sect is just up ahead; you can ask more about it with the branch sect leader, Xiang Yun Feng."
He pointed at a building that was a hundred meters ahead.
By now, they had entered Nan An village.
There were small wooden huts scattered around the area, and most had fishing nets hung beside them.
The branch sect of Qing Feng Sect was relatively huge and lavish compared to the villagers' houses.
Two stone lions lay side by side in front of the branch sect.
It had walls made of bricks, and its compound was huge, enough to house fifty men.
"Stop. Who are you?" Two men in black robes stopped and asked when they saw Lin Fan, Ho Ming, and Hun Yen Kun approaching.
Hun Yen Kun stopped his horse and got down.
He took out his wooden slab and showed it to the two men.
When the two men saw 'Hun Yen Kun, Core disciple of Qing Yang Zi' on it, they couldn't believe their eyes.
This was someone from the headquarters.
And it was no ordinary disciple; it was none other than the sect master's core disciple.
They quickly bowed and smiled at Hun Yen Kun.
"We are so sorry. Please come in." They said, and one of them went inside the branch sect to get the branch sect leader.
Lin Fan, Ho Ming, and Hun Yen Kun were then led to a guest room.
"This is our local tea; hope you can get used to it."
The man poured tea for them, and the branch sect leader came rushing in a moment later.
Xiang Yun Feng, the branch sect leader, had gray hair and was around sixty.
"I apologize for not being able to greet you in time." He clasped his hands and bowed.
Hun Yen Kun quickly stood up and stopped Xiang Yun Feng.
"I'm not too keen on formalities; we just want to know where senior martial uncle was last seen," Hun Yen Kun said.
Xiang Yun Feng nodded and said, "He came to this village and said he was in search of a secret realm somewhere in the eastern sea.
"He bought a boat and set sail all alone.
"That was the last we heard of him."
Hun Yen Kun frowned and thought for a moment.
It was something that Zhao Qing Ying would do.
Doing things that he wanted, that was his Dao.
Nothing unusual or suspicious about it.
"Where can we get a boat and guide to seek for him ourselves?" Lin Fan chimed in and asked.
"Most of the villagers are out at sea right now. You might not be able to find a boat," Xiang Yun Feng said.
"I can help!"
A voice came from outside the guest room.
Lin Fan glanced at the window.
There were many disciples gathered outside the guest room.
All of them were eager to take a look at Hun Yen Kun.
They wanted to see for themselves what a top cultivator was like.
"Is that Hun Yen Kun?"
"Forget about him, I want to see Lin Fan."
"Yeah, Lin Fan is such a badass. I am willing to sacrifice my brother's happiness just to have a glimpse of him."
"Nonsense, Hun Yen Kun is a badass too."
"Too bad Lin Fan is not around."
The disciples were excited but slightly disappointed that they couldn't see Lin Fan.
They had heard about Lin Fan with his rugged and handsome look.
Nothing they could associate with the fair scholarly look that Lin Fan had on right now.
"I can help! My family's boat is available." The voice sounded again.
"Come in," Lin Fan said, as it might be their chance of setting out to sea.
A young girl, around the age of ten, appeared at the door, shy with her head down.
Lin Fan walked over and squatted down to meet the young girl's eyes.
"Nice to meet you. I'm Guo He Ru. We will gladly pay for the boat and guide."
"I'm Xiao Tao. You don't have to pay for it."
Xiao Tao bit her lips and said.
Before Lin Fan could ask why she wouldn't want to charge for it, he heard the other disciples trying to stop him.
"Her family's boat is cursed."
"Don't go on their boat; the Water Monkey has cursed it."
"She is trying to make use of you."
The other disciples who were of similar age to Xiao Tao spoke of their concerns.
Lin Fan heard 'Water Monkey' and he was intrigued.
There was something going on here with Xiao Tao and the other disciples.
"Go back to your training! Do hundred squats as punishment!"
Xiang Yun Feng came over and shooed the other disciples away.
The disciples quickly dispersed when they saw the branch sect leader's angry looks.
"Don't mind them. It's just some folklore in this village," Xiang Yun Feng said as he patted Xiao Tao's shoulder.
Xiao Tao lowered her head and said, "They are right. I'm trying to make use of you."
