Frieren in Danmachi

Chapter 19: Chapter 18 - 35 thousand mana points used. Zoltraak!

When I received the tree's warning, Ares immediately came to mind and my blood began to boil. I felt overwhelming hatred—but also concern. I'm not ready for this, even though I really want to kill that idiot.

I clicked my tongue, and then a new possibility emerged.

[Would you like to observe the intruders?]

"Can I do that? Yes, please."

Instantly, an image of the intruders appeared in front of me. Memories from the man named Isaac within me surfaced.

"This is kind of like a TV," I said.

'What is that idiot thinking?'

It was Ares and his men—men I didn't recognize.

"Are these people who started working for him while I was asleep? Well, it doesn't matter now."

They had just entered the forest surrounding the World Tree.

However, I noticed they were struggling.

I couldn't hear what they were saying, but they were clearly bothered by something.

"Is it the tree's power?" That could be it.

The tree protects the elves. It's trying to keep Ares and the others away—but it doesn't have enough power to hold them back. 'It's okay. Everything will be okay.' I thought as I left the tree.

I rushed to Serie's house.

"Serie, we have a problem. I need you to hide—right now."

"Huh? What happened?"

"Ares is here. Ares and nineteen men. They've come for my body."

"What?!" Serie's eyes widened. "I'm not hiding. I'll go eliminate them right now."

"Are you insane?" I grabbed her arm, stopping her from running outside. "I can see where they are. I can track their movements. You need to hide! Don't worry—I won't be caught."

"No. I'm not doing that."

"Don't be stubborn, Serie. I'm your queen—did you forget that?"

"..." Serie stared at me for a moment, then clicked her tongue. "Fine. I'll take the elf with me. I know a safe place to hide."

"Good. Do it. If you disobey me and try anything, I'll be very upset."

"It's fine."

Serie grabbed the hand of the elf I had created and left her house to hide. They headed in the opposite direction of Ares and his men. Perfect.

I left Serie's house and flew as high as I could—toward the treetops.

Isn't there anything I can do in this situation? I want to get rid of him. Letting him live brings me no benefit.

But… he's a god.

Back then, I had enough power to destroy a god's physical form—but now, things are different.

Come to think of it, no matter what I choose, things are going to get complicated.

If I face him directly, he'll find out I'm awake—and I might be killed.

If I hide, he'll still find out I'm awake—and spread the news.

And if he's not the one who cursed me, the god who did will come after me to finish the job. Not just him—other gods might appear, looking to take advantage of my weakened state.

I don't know if the gods hate me, but I assume they're not fond of me.

Even back then, many of them felt uneasy around me.

Not all of them, though.

Hestia, Hephaestus, Takemikazuchi—and even Loki—never treated me like a nuisance.

'Damn it.'

I kept watching. Ares had stopped advancing.

Taking advantage of my position near the tree's trunk, hidden among the leaves, I touched it.

Current EXP: 0 / 128,000

If I leveled up the tree once more, its protection might grow stronger—but I don't have enough mana for that.

"Damn it, they're moving forward. The discomfort Ares was feeling seems to be gone." But his companions still looked uneasy. What are they feeling? What is the tree doing to their bodies?

I landed on one of the branches and used magic to improve my vision.

I looked into the forest—in their direction.

I spotted them.

"Can I hit them from here?" I asked myself coldly.

They hadn't noticed me.

Ares was leading recklessly, paying no attention to his surroundings.

"I don't remember if Ares has good instincts. I only remember he's an idiot."

I managed to calm myself and let out a long sigh.

I kept tracking them, and the screen that resembled a "TV" faded away. It was a bit harder to see them through the trees—but I could still follow their steps.

"Alright. Just one attack."

I'll use my most powerful offensive spell. Just one attack should be enough to make them back off.

"I'll be using nearly all of my mana."

Mana: 38,458 / 102,400

"35,000mana. In a single strike."

My most powerful spell. The one I've used most since arriving in this world.

The same one I used to kill that damned bear.

In the past, this spell had immense range and destructive power. Thirty-five thousand mana should be enough… right?

Feeling anxious, I sighed and raised my hand in their direction.

They walked casually through the forest, unaware that I was watching.

"Idiots," I said coldly.

My heart skipped a beat, and everything fell silent.

The wind vanished, and the leaves around me stopped moving.

"Zoltraak." I said.

Thirty-five thousand mana vanished from my status, and a powerful attack formed.

I was blinded for a moment as a beam of light shot toward the ground at incredible speed—

Straight toward Ares and his group.
