Freedom's daughter

Chapter 10: Lyet

Once the sunlight enters the window, I start to wake up.

I'm in a bed, covered in bandages, and I also feel terribly exhausted.

I don't recognize the place, but it's a small room with some beds in it, few are occupied by other people. A hospital?

"You finally woke up."

I turn my head and see a black dressed girl. I don't know her. I assume it's one of the nurses?

I sit up as she approaches me.

"You've been asleep for over twenty-four hours."

"An entire day? What happened?"

"A girl came here saying you needed a healer as soon as possible. We were able to cure your injuries, but it burned out a lot of your energy; that's why you were asleep for so long. You lost an unimaginable quantity of blood, but now everything should be fine; you just need to rest for some more time."

"Thanks... Where is 'here', though?"

"It's a small village kilometers away from the city of Neverland, still within the kingdom."

So we still have to fully escape. But it should work for the moment.

"Where is the girl who was with me?"

"I think she is still downstairs."

"Can you call her?"

"Sure, give me a moment."

-

"Histrio!"

She runs to me.

"Don't scream... People are sleeping here."

"I don't care! How are you?"

"The nurse said I'm fine, I just need some rest..."

"You had me worrying sick! Sleeping for an entire day!"

...

"Lyet, I think it's time to talk. Can we go somewhere private?"

"Mmm... There's a balcony." She says reluctantly.

-

I lean on the railing, looking to the horizon. I don't see the city of Neverland at all; it must be pretty far. 'Kilometers' was an understatement.

At this point, I want to know what's going on, and I believe I have the right to do.

"Is it really you who brought me into this world?"

She hesitates for a moment, she is both unsure and scared of what to say.

"I... Y-yeah, it was me."

"Mh..."

I look at her with the corner of my eye.

"I'm sorry. I didn't want to—"

"Well, nothing we can do about it now. It just means you'll have to take me back."

"...Aren't you mad at me?"

Honestly, I'm mad. I was always mad since I found out during the fight against Dante, but at that time, it wasn't my priority.

Anyway, I think I shouldn't be mad, it won't help. Also, she didn't do it on purpose, and she isn't a bad person.

So, yes, I'm mad but... Not at her, I guess.

Sigh...

"It's fine, don't worry. Let's just change the topic. A few things don't seem to work. From what I understood, a female shouldn't be able to use magic to harm others, so why can you?"

"That rule only applies to mortal beings, or to better say, who descend from Adam and Eve; They are the first mortals. I'm a demon; I descend from Lucifer, the Queen of Hell. Specifically, she is my aunt, and this explains my high mana pool."

I can hear from her voice a strong sense of guilt; she isn't even trying to hide it. She has other thoughts in her mind, and I'm unsure how I should approach the situation.

"Lyet... Everything is fine—"

"No, it's not fine! I forced you into this world, I involved you in my mess, and almost had you killed, the only person I ever considered a friend! Do you have any idea how I feel?! And don't hide the fact that you are mad at me! I know you are! You even helped me with everything, so I also feel in debt! And... I genuinely have doubts I'll ever be able to control my magic to the point of taking you back! It's not fine! I feel like shit! Now that I know you are fine with your injuries, I'll leave! You are better off without me anyway!"

I open my mouth, but no words come out. I didn't expect that. I really want to hug her and tell her everything is seriously fine, but I can't bring myself to do it; I'm scared she might think I feel pity for her.

Maybe I should just let her go.

Do I really want it, though? I don't know what to do...

...

"Lyet... Can you come here?"

"What for?"

"Just do it..."

She approaches the railing as well, standing to my side.

Slap!

Lyet touches her cheek. It didn't hurt her at all but...

"Yes, I'm mad! I didn't want to come here!"

I stop for a moment, lowering my tone.

"But... Now I'm somewhat happy."

"Happy...?" She looks at me, confused, forgetting about the slap. "Didn't you say you were happier in your world?"

"Not really. I said I had a normal life, but didn't say I was not enjoying it to the fullest."

"You had a family and a girlfriend... You were also doing great at school."

"Don't get me wrong, I love all of them, I miss them right now as well."

"Then what did you mean?"

"Well... My parents mainly only cared about school, which was the main topic of all our chats. They never considered what I really wanted to do—"

"What is it?" She asks firmly.

"Acting. I really wanted to finish school as soon as possible so I could try becoming an actor or something related to entertainment."

"Acting... That's why you know all those tricks..."

"Yes. I learnt them on the little free time I had between school and my part-time job. I'm more an actor here than I was in my other world; that's the reason I'm happy, yet it's not the only one."

"What's the other?"

I point at her, smiling.

"...Histrio"

"I have a friend. That's the reason."

She hugs me...

"Hey there... I'm still injured."

"I don't care."

...And I hug her back.

"But... You said you had a girlfriend, didn't you?"

"Yeah... I mean, I'm in love with her, sure..."

"But?"

"I'm not sure of the other way around, I'll be honest."

"I see... I won't question further."

"Lyet..."

"Mh?"

"Everything is fine. There's no need for you to leave me, ok? We'll make everything work out."

She nods on my chest.
